Well, after five years of faithful service, my current cleats are on their way out. They're more electrical tape now than boots; twisted and evil. I know BHQ has been the place for many football-boot related discussions, so I come to you all looking for help.
Having won two playing awards in the last two weeks, I feel it's safe to say I'm now a superstar athlete and must be shoed as such. So I have decided I want the lairiest pair of orange boots available, a la Alex Glenn.

Full list of demands:

- I have big feet (11-12)
- Orange
- Cheap

Go!

Ning, if you find me some, I'll take down my superior sig so that everyone thinks yours is original.

http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/...-1226361027266

JUSTIN Hodges flashed a stare that only a mother could decipher.

Outwardly, he assured family he was fine; that he couldn't be happier. Inwardly, he was falling apart.

The Broncos and Maroons ace's career was slipping away.

It was midway through 2010.

Hodges had already been diagnosed with depression.

His body, this time in the form of a snapped Achilles tendon, was failing him.

Her heart crumbling, Cheryl Hodges did what any mother would do. She fought for her son - and in the process delivered the wake-up call that ensured Hodges is still around to take his place in the Queensland centres this Wednesday night at Etihad Stadium.

"I know Justin was worried if he would ever be back," says Cheryl, who recalls vividly a time when Hodges seriously questioned if he had the mental fortitude to play again.

"We went through a tough time as a family. Justin wanted to throw it all away after that Achilles injury and I knew down deep that wasn't what he really wanted.

"Justin has loved his football since he was five, football is his life.

"It got to a point where one day we all sat down as a family. His wife Gyanne was there. She has been his real strength.

"We said to him: 'This is not the Justin we know, you've always been positive'. We had a big talk . . . hoping to put him on the right track. If we just left him, he would have given the game away."

Spend 10 minutes watching Hodges in camp with the Maroons ahead of the 2012 series and you don't detect the demons that almost drove him away from football.

He bounds into team breakfasts with the relaxed veneer of a man at peace with himself. During training runs at Melbourne's Xavier College, Hodges is more vocal than usual.

Leadership has never come naturally to Hodges but, five days shy of his 30th birthday, he is now cognisant of his growing stature in league.

This is the Hodges people know; the happy-go-lucky prankster that disappeared before his mother's eyes.

"He was very unhappy after the Achilles injury. He was very depressed, he hit rock bottom," Cheryl says. "He was drinking and it was horrible to see that, he pretty much gave up on football and life. He was running away from everything."

With the fog cleared, Hodges appreciates the Origin stage more than ever. Every interstate game has been hard earned for Hodges.

He made his Maroons debut in 2002 and could easily have racked up 30 matches, but a slew of injuries has restricted him to just 11 games over a decade.

Hodges has spent the past week rooming with his good mate Brent Tate. The pair have traded war stories and counted their injuries. Both have been through the wringer, but have come through the other side better players and people.

"It was hard. People go through those dark times in their life," says Hodges as he reflects on his rollercoaster career.

"I had some great family and friends to support me, but the No.1 thing was always playing footy.

"Everytime I got on the field, that was a happy time for me. It's something I've always loved, is playing footy. I take each game as a blessing now, I love putting on that jersey and running out in front of my friends and family. It still means everything playing Origin, everytime you get picked it's like your first game.

"I have missed a fair few games so every game I always treasure and hopefully I can play a few more."

When he runs on to Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, Cheryl will crack a smile, knowing the struggle was all worth it.

"I always get nervous when he plays. Just knowing all the injuries he has had, it's hard to watch, but I always stay strong and positive for him," she says.

"I'm really proud of him. "

Sydney's NRL clubs and other members of the recently formed clubs association are preparing for an allout confrontation with the ARL commission over the off-field power and supremacy of Brisbane.

A copy of the Broncos' annual report has been circulated amongst the clubs showing the club's turnover of a staggering $34 million and more than $28 million spent on the football team.
Personally I think Brisbane needs another team but this article suggests that rather then improve themselves the Sydney teams are looking to hamper the Broncos. What the Sydney clubs should be doing is aspiring to operate like the Broncos.

It's a prospect faced by players every week in the NRL as they line up against some of the biggest, meanest packs of forwards the code has to offer.

I was thinking the other day after the teams were selected that QLD have the team to win this year again. A team that has been together for a number of years, compared to NSW who really haven't built a solid base of dependible players yet.

With the exception of Civo, the current QLD team should be around for at least the next 3 years, and could perhaps do the unthinkable and win 10 series in a row. Will NSW be able to come up with a team in that time to win the series back from QLD?

When do you seriously think NSW will win a series?

Unsure if this has been discussed previously. Apologies if it has, I couldn't find a thread. Just heard a piece on the radio about how certain players/coaches have come out and called for SoO games to only be played in Brisbane and Sydney. That Melbourne and (the ever closer) the prospect of Auckland/Wellington should not be given the rights to host the showpiece of RL.

Personally, I think so long as 1 game a series is given to both states, the third game shouldn't matter and it's a great way of exporting the code. I know there isn't a tonne of stats to prove that the game has grown in Melbourne, but it definitely gets a great crowd.

What are your guys thoughts?

Do I need to say it ? Broncos leading from the front yet again. At least the lofty standards set by the men from Red Hill give the rest something to aspire to, although it is unlikely that any other club will come close to the excellence that is the Brisbane Broncos. And, just to show that we are indeed mortal we let the other team win occasionally.

Note to Fox. You have made a huge error as you have not published the Brisbane team but have instead published another team. This is not possible as Brisbane leads the way in everything especially the important stuff like announcement of playing squads and changing jerseys each season.

The NRMA Insurance Broncos have reached another historic milestone as the club officially hit 25,000 members.

This is the first time in the 24-year history of the Broncos that such a mark has been reached, and also sees the Broncos become the first team in the NRL to reach 25,000.

With only 10 games played, and the team playing some incredibly exciting football, the club expects the momentum to continue.

“Our fans are really starting to see the benefits of membership, and our flexible four-game option continues to grow every week, along with the tailor-made interstate memberships for fans in Sydney and Melbourne,” said chief executive Paul White.

“We’ve been working hard to ensure our fans see the benefits of membership, and the culture shift is now well and truly taking place. To go from just over 16,000 last year to 25,000 this year is astounding.”

The Broncos have now reached a global fan-base, with members pouring in from Africa, North America, Europe, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

“Membership ensures you play a part securing the future of your club, and the support we’re receiving from as far as Africa is testament to the dedication and loyalty shown by our supporters,” said White.

“It doesn’t matter if they can’t get to the games, they know they’re supporting us in the best way possible.

“Membership will remain a key focus for us, and we thank each and every one of our 25,000 members for the commitment they’ve shown to their team.” Source http://www.broncos.com.au/news-displ...p-Record/55182

Hey guys, I Thought i'd post this up. It's funny how people write us off.

A lot has been made of the Brisbane Broncos’ stranglehold on Friday night football.

It’s been called a disgrace and an unfair advantage over the rest of the clubs in the NRL. But Friday night football might just be the downfall of the Broncos in 2012.

It’s not the Broncos fault. The Nine Network has made an obvious decision to play the Broncos on Friday nights live into Queensland because they are the premier club in the sunshine state.

But in a competition where everything else is so even and any kind of advantage is gratefully accepted, the Broncos are sitting pretty.

The routine the players are in is a farce. Week after week they know exactly when they are playing and how to best prepare for each game, not even mentioning how lovely a job it would be to work in the Broncos sales or marketing departments.

Nine of Brisbane’s opening 10 games have been on a Friday night; blockbuster matches each weekend against teams wanting to knock them off. Make no mistake, players still fire up for a Friday night clash.

The Broncos are flying on the table and have dominated Friday night footy while the Cronulla Sharks, still without a major sponsor, have been camped on a shuffle through Fox Sports. The Warriors, Canberra, Sydney Roosters and Gold Coast have all been shafted by the Nine Network too.

An average television audience on a Friday night is over 900,000 viewers. An average audience for a Fox Sports game is just over 200,000.

Unless you’re a Broncos supporter, there won’t be too many upset people if and when the Broncos nosedive.

Anthony Griffin’s chargers have been up to the task so far. They’ve accepted and won almost all challengers.

But what has been an impressive start to the year, may end in heartache for the Broncos. All these Friday night wars surely aren’t good for you in the long run.

Jharal Yow Yeh is gone for the season. Justin Hodges and Peter Wallace are continually battling injury.

Then there is State of Origin.

Sam Thaiday, Corey Parker, Matt Gillett, Petero Civoneciva, Ben Hannant and Josh Maguire are all expected to play parts in this year’s Origin series.

It’s a murky time of year for the mighty Broncos as they scratch their way through the Origin period and try to stay healthy for a run at the finals.

After the bye in Round 11, the Broncos travel to Melbourne for another Friday night clash against the Storm. Then they’ll finally run out for a day game against Newcastle. Remember that big old yellow thing in the sky? Perhaps they’ll need to wear sunglasses.

I'm up for an avatar bet, but considering the lengths we've gone to in order to appease Danny and the Manly forums, I do think it's only fair on myself and The Rock if you guys agree to change the entire forum banner to a Blues HQ one for a week in the unlikely event that NSW finally win the series. Obviously, if (when?) QLD take the title I'll grudgingly cop a huge Maroons banner all over my face upon every login.
