NEWS Joe Ofahengaue signs three-year extension

Thats a hefty sum for that sort of output. I like him, just hope he shows some improvement.

interesting, I wonder if we faced much competition to keep him.

Seems like a made up figure to me. 300k for a Joe O would be fair I think. 500k just seems like madness.

I don't mind it.

$500K is roughly what you'd be expected to pay a young starting middle forward with Origin level potential. Was hoping we could get him for a little cheaper, but when you look at the fact that TPJ is reportedly expecting $700K-$1M a season offers, you'd take JoeO at $500K no questions asked. If anything I'd say this signing is a good insurance plan for if TPJ does go to the Roosters/Rabbitohs on huge money, I'd still feel quite comfortable with a starting middle trio of Lodge, Haas & Ofahengaue moving forward, with Flegler & Carrigan on the horizon.

How is it a three year extension if it only keeps him here until the end 2021?

Good signing. Given the salary cap increases, this isn’t over the top at all. I’m sure the figure is also less than reported.

Now to re-sign Oates and extend Fifita, those are the next two keys on top of Haas already being locked up.

TPJ should not be a priority re-signing.

What are the increases?

I don't mind the extension, but the reported salary seems a bit steep. Haas is on the same amount, and no way Joe is equal to Payne on current form. What are other front rowers on for reference?

I've really gone off of TPJ and would be happy if the club let him go tbh. He costs more games then he wins, we need consistency from our team. Sure he might do a 10/10 game once every 8 weeks but I'd prefer an 8/10 week after week, especially from our forwards.

And yes he is young so he could become more consistent, but I don't think it will because it seems to be more of a footy basic IQ type thing.
I'd be upgrading flegler and fifita junior way before re-signing TPJ, they are far more consistent already, which is unreal

Oates is much more of a priority, yes he has hands for feet once a month but he is far more consistent and much more likely to break a game open

Smart business to let him go, he's not the player we need. Guy has Cartwright written all over him.

Unlike a lot of people here, i like Joffa.

He will grow and mature into a very good prop i'm sure.

When?
He isn't exactly in his second season. He has had numerous opportunities to stamp his authority and be the number 1 prop in the team and shits the bed every time. I think he will only ever be a bench forward at best. Should have kept Wallace over him

That seems like pretty good money considering what some forwards are reportedly paid around the game now.
