NOT CROSS FORUM State of Origin - Game 2 Discussion

Mmmm, our forwards got bullied and who else comes in? Grant and Ponga will help but seem to be always injured and we'll need a lot of these guys to lift massively. Our backline too isn't that flash either. We need to find some decent centres and metre eating wingers as we have nothing and no strike out wide.

I know footy is a funny game but if NSW play it smart (which is always debatable) I think their best 17 (and depth) is a fair bit stronger than our best 17.
They showed last year they can compete tbf. Their depth is better, but there isn't much between the two best 17's

Looks like the cancer of V'landys ball has now ruined the great arena of Origin. Fantastic.
They lived offside in the first 2 tackles of every set. It was awful footy.

Also, I wonder how much of this NSW team being the generation of kids who had to sit through 8 years of watching their team get decimated. They grew up in an era of suffering and have a lot more passion in the jersey then their previous counterparts? Whereas our boys grew up thinking all you have to do to be a QLD legend is put on the jersey.

These players should never play for Qld again:
Kyle Feldt (never should have played in the first place tbh)
DCE
Andrew McCullough
Felise Kaufusi

I'm leaving Xavier off this list because he's young and if he can get some guidance at Melbourne he might come good in time.

Macca was so bad in attack, just an absolute meme. I knew in the first 15 minutes when he killed set after set anywhere close to the NSW line QLD were no chance.

The thinking sounds right in theory - start with Macca then bring on Hunt when the defence is tired - except for two things - 1. QLD needed early points if they were to be any chance, and 2. NSW don't get tired, their interchange is excellent.

Didn't watch last night but how did our one of the best wingers in the world go?

If Holmes nailed that pass then it could’ve been 6 all but instead the Blues go up 12 nil.
I would’ve picked Corey Allan out of NSW cup at fullback over Holmes.

I’m sure he had a decent night watching it from home with a beer in hand. You meant Oates right?
Well the letters oates appear in the surname in that order so I suppose you could make the argument.

Live at the game he was wide open all night and Capewell passed to him exactly nonce times. He only got the ball when Munster finally cut out Capewell, and surprise surprise he nearly scored.

In defence he gave the fox an easy 30m headstart all night long.

This is true. Capewell at centre was a poor decision by Green. Bennett had already run that experiment for him the year before and new it didn’t work by game 3.

Coates only advantage is his attacking flair and they put him next to a make shift centre.

Too grubby for you?

He’s got a really nice smile 😊

Depending on how the expansion fiasco goes, you'd have to think they'd be throwing some money at Bennett for next year. How long is Greens contract for?

After that shitshow, I NEVER want to see whinging on this forum again about the Broncs offloading McCullough. The bloke is a spud, and I don't care if Turpin turns out to be a nuffy as well, at least he still has a lot to prove yet in front of him. McC is past proven, and he's a proven dud.

Paul Green needs to be flicked. He has been well and truly exposed now. 2015 was JT's year. He may as well have been coaching that Cows side just like Locky in 2011 over Griffin. Green is right down there with the likes of Seibold and Cartright. Lucky to hold down an assistant coach job, nevermind a head one.

With the way the game is played these days Queensland needs to copy NSW and just pick your best backline players and find a spot for them.

1. Ponga
2. Holmes
3. Brimson
4. Gagai
5. Hamiso

That should be our core back 5 for next series.
Can swap players position until they find the right balance.
Coates, Walsh, Ronaldo as depth and if Cobbo starts off well next season he will probably come into calculations as well.

Capewell is a great 2nd rower but a lot of our problems stemmed from him, he isnt a centre Paul green, chambers, opacic, hymel hunt, mybe would all done a better job

so much of our attack went down that side and we actually found some space early on. It makes no sense at all why you wouldn’t put gagai there just for his pace alone. Turbo had no issues closing the gaps chasing after capewell. A complete mismatch.
