once gillette realises that he is bigger than most of the blokes on the field and actually runs the ball like he's got a pair instead of this stop and jink stuff he will be unstoppable. same goes for sam, he gets the ball flat footed or off 1 or 2 steps far to often, look what he did when he scored his try. had some pace up when he got the ball and killed them.

Beale is pretty iffy under the high ball IMO, he's dropped a few before hasn't he?

Teams down by 2 can exploit that in a big game IMO.

Overall, the warriors were UP no doubt - but those two kick tries killed us.

He only dropped one from memory - the other one that lead to a try was tapped back by the Warriors.

I think a big thing here is the quality of the "ball". There are few too plays where holes are created and Gillett, T'eo and Glenn are actually put through a hole by clever playmaking. At the moment, it's give them the ball, usually flatfooted, and hope.

I think we seriously underutilise the attacking strengths of our back rowers

We are, but it's not like we can just put them into space because we want to. We have to create that space. For mine, the biggest problem we have is that whilst Norman and Wallace have been very good individually, so far they don't offer a lot as a combination, so it limits what we can do in attack, as we don't create that doubt and misdirection as much as say, the Storm or Manly combinations would. It also means it's harder to get guys like Hoffman involved as that third man in. IMO this is our biggest concern, but one that should get better as the season develops.

Other than the Wallace injury, there's really nothing to be concerned about IMO.

He still made a pretty soft attempt at it.

it was on manu though. manu is three times the size of beale. manu does the big tap back week in week out.

its a 50 50 situation so i can excuse that one.

2nd game we lost this season...2nd time it was mostly due to Beale's stump hands. Hate me all you want, but I just don't like him, especially ever since he injured Lockyer...which was the one time he actually caught the ball.

Next week will be an enormous test ... Manly still has one of the best lists in the NRL .. imo Manly and Melbourne are the teams you're gonna have to beat to get near this premiership

It was great to see Thaiday run with some purpose for once. I think a couple of big hits on him made him remember how much he likes the physical side of the game. The first time this year he has really run hard on the fringes like he was doing a couple of years back.

Obviously Beale's mistakes cost us and they really missed Wallace out there.

Ah well. Warriors brought their A game, we certainly didn't and were without out main play maker for 55 odd minutes of the match. In the end there was only 1 try between them. Not too worried.

Although Wallace is easily our best halfback it's very good to have someone like Hunt is who is certainly capable of taking his spot when we have injuries. Hunt will only get better IMO.

I hope Wallace is fit to play next week although he might take the week off so he can have 3 weeks off with the bye included.

I truly hate J. Robinson with a passion. That idiot needs to be sacked permanently! I lost count of the wrong decisions he made. Actually, the only correct one was the one where he gave us the scrum feed after it was blatantly obvious that he was wrong on the video replay.

Having said that, I won't take anything away from the Warriors, who were on song tonight, not only in their razzle dazzle style of attack, but also very good defensively, which isn't exactly their trade mark.

We also didn't do ourselves any favors, and of course, just when I started complimenting Beale on the right wing, he pulls this shit.
Beale on the wing will probably be our demise in a finals game, where any coach with a semblance of a brain will plan to bomb him all night!

We missed Wallace big time in that second half. He's the best short kicker at the Broncos by a mile, and could have earned us a couple of tries/restarts had he been on the paddock in the second half. Hunt was shocking except for that move where he put Thaiday through for his try. Norman was trying too hard and went away from his natural game. Both will learn from tonight's game.
Credit to McCullough, who was enormous despite a couple of crappy decisions. He still pulled 66 tackles even after he sprained his ankle in the middle of the second half!

All in all, I'm not worried that we lost at Mt Smart by one try only against this Warriors team, and under these circumstances. Still plenty of lessons to be learnt from this...

How did I know you'd attack Hunt? :P He wasn't good. But he had 2 moments of brilliance. The last minute, and midway through the second half where he sliced straight through and went within a metre of scoring himself. Showed surprising speed.

I thought Norman was horrible, even when Wallace was out there. But it's taken 9 rounds for Norman to really have a bad game so he's exceeded my expectations by 8 weeks.

The loss we needed IMO. A young team like ours needs those reality checks IMO. We will be fine, looking forward to seeing Hunt in the 7 next week.

Looking at the match stats, almost everything was even except they offloaded 13 to our 6.

As Ari and others have said, it's a question of keeping composure for the 80 mins, and getting the "spine" to co-ordinate better. Put simply, we have incredible strike power, especially the back row, but we aren't using them, especially when we are under pressure. Bottom line is we couldn't score the points when the going got really tough.

The loss had nothing to do with Beale.

Hopefully, the combinations will keep evolving, the composure will develop and more attacking options open up

Norman was sh@tting himself. He's not the first player to be intimidated by a physical team and he is still very young but it's an area he needs to fix before big games this year.
