Game II Discussion

I would go one step further and remove the team doctors from the decision. Let the NRL doctor to make the calls with no influence from others. Hell, put him in the bunker and do it from there.

lol you just know there will be plenty of people labelling the NRL doctors biased against their team and Phil Rothfield will write articles about how NSW were robbed by the doctors. Can see it already.

That's a pretty big slap in the face to team doctors.

We had independent doctor for SOO and New South Wales complain about Milford not coming straight off.

I'm not sure you could be more vague if you tried. How is is a slap in the face? They make the call for the team don't they? And they are calling people off to cheat the system. That's a slap in the face.

How is it vague? You're questioning their professionalism and care of players- I would suggest that's a slap in the face to team doctors.

Without any proof you want their role to care for their players taken away.

The club doctors really shouldn't be the ones making the call. Not while they are working for a club in the NRL.

Quite a few times this season we have seen players lay motionless on the ground but doesn't come off. The instructions from the NRL is that if a player lays motionless on the ground, they must be taken off.

So it's either the club doctors are refusing to do it, or they are being overruled by the coach. Either way, this is why it should not be in the hands of a club doctor.

How many times have we seen a team ordered to take a player off after letting him stay out there?

And quite a few times we've seen players conveniently get a head knock when it's time for a change to be made and they get a free interchange.

Don't be so bloody dramatic, man. Checking for HIA was an added role to their job as team doctor, they can still be the team doctor, it's ok.

A smart bloke like you should have heard of the phrase "Conflict of interest". That's exactly what it is, and there are examples of that possibly occurring recently.

Well no it hasn't been added to their list. Team doctors have always done it. They've always tested in pre-season to get a base line and then done them when a player has been knocked out in games.

Players and clubs want players looked after by people they know and know them. The fact that there was still problems with an independent doctor in Origin means that's not the answer either.

James Mc Mannus is suing the Knights for not making him retire .
History of head knocks .

McManus said the club failed to conduct proper medical assessments following his concussive injuries, relied on medically unqualified personnel, such as trainers, to form opinions on brain injuries, failed to retire him on various occasions after head injuries, failed to warn him of the possibility of permanent brain damage from concussive injuries and failed to tell him to get his own medical assessment.
He lists 10 incidents between 2012 and 2015 where he suffered a concussion but was permitted or required to keep playing, either the same day or in the days and weeks and months that followed.

Always done it? Big deal, they can still do whatever they still do. But when it comes to someone being removed from the field, it shouldn't be up to the team doctor.

Matt Moylan looked to have a head clash against the cowboys but stayed out there. I didn't catch the final prognosis of the injury but surely if he had a head clash he should've come off. He was defending on the wing afterwards
