Game III Queensland Origin team

No no, he said key player.

He has been key to helping QLD win on numerous occasions. At times wonder if QLD has him on the payroll.

If they were smart Maloney and Moylan. Fortunately they aren't that smart. Hayne plane left at GC and play Bird. A few minor tweaks in the forwards as well and QLD would have no chance. Either way be hard without JT. Need to start making a big deal out of Cronk likely retirement, Billy's return and JT on the sidelines to get the standard NRL fairytale bonus points.

I think you gotta have Morgan at 6 and Munster at centre, purely because Morgan would be worse defensively out wide (I'm assuming). In attack though, those two + Billy are all interchangeable and can pop-up wherever they want. Without it adversely affecting the attack, we need to have some unpredictability. Gagai can't do everything (except he will). Oates can be our utility - Any forward goes down (even Smith: McGuire or Morgan to 9) and he can play there, any outside back he can play there, any half goes down and Munster can shift in and Oates comes in again.

Hunt - just make sure he polishes the trophy before we gift it to NSW. Be his main contribution to the Queensland team. Not the guy you want in the pressure cooker.
Still don't understand the love for Holmes? Am I missing something. Oates is a machine and won't let QLD down. Still need the meters.

We saw what Oates can do . No probs if you want to play down the left side attack . Did you notice all game long Qld made efforts to get the ball to the centre of the field from kick returns ? Doing that opens up the defensive spacing . Running down one edge the defense can compress . More men in the tackles , slower play the balls .

Game 2 NSW weren`t able to dictate like early game 1 because we brought the ball to centre field . More options , the defense has to spread to cover two sides of the ruck .

Morgan plays NRL every week . Never heard of him being weak defensively before . Defends in the middle of the field when he comes on in SOO . Don`t understand why he would be a liability ?

Morgan has been playing well in recent times. Won the game for QLD too, with his offload. Most experienced option as well.

Holmes had better have a blinder next week...from what we saw today, well.....

It will be interesting who gets selected at 5/8. You would think Morgan, but what if Hunt has a blinder against the storm. Do you put him at 5/8 or maybe Morgan start and Hunt replace him on the bench?

I think it's only fair that one of nsw's key players gets injured and ruled out of game 3

Josh Jackson. I would probably put my money on him getting player of the series, even if he gets knocked out in the first minute and doesn't return. Their reason would be that him getting knocked out fired up the whole team.

State of Origin 2017: Allan Langer calls for Ben Hunt to make his Origin debut in Game III

QUEENSLAND’s greatest halfback Allan Langer has called for Ben Hunt to be handed his maiden Maroons jumper for the Origin decider — just a fortnight after being axed from the Broncos.

As Maroons coach Kevin Walters desperately tries to fill the void left by injured stars Johnathan Thurston and Darius Boyd, Langer believes Hunt can be Queensland’s Mr Fixit in Origin III.

Hunt’s final season at the Broncos appeared in tatters just two weeks ago when the halfback, who will join the Dragons next year on a $6 million deal, was dropped to Intrust Super Cup side Ipswich.

But Anthony Milford’s shoulder injury opened the door for Hunt, who made a triumphant return to the Broncos on Saturday night, spearheading Brisbane’s 30-20 defeat of the Raiders.

Playing off the bench, Hunt was magnificent, kicking judiciously and compiling two try assists, two line-break assists and one tackle bust in his most complete display of the season.

The pint-sized Langer famously emerged from Ipswich to star in his Origin debut in 1987. Thirty years later, he urged Walters, his former Broncos halves partner, to blood Hunt in the Origin decider at Suncorp Stadium on July 12.

“Like me, Ben could go from Ipswich to the Maroons and I certainly hope he does,” said Langer, who played 34 Origin matches for the Maroons.

“Personally, I think Queensland should pick Ben on the bench (for Origin III).

“I have no doubt he could handle State of Origin despite him being dropped to reserve grade.

“I like ‘Hunty’ as a utility option. If the Maroons are going to go with guys like (Cameron) Munster and (Michael) Morgan in the starting side, they should look at Ben for the bench.

“Ben has played plenty of hooker at the Broncos so he has that versatility — he would be the perfect utility for Queensland.”

Walters stunned many last week when he called Hunt into Camp Maroon as a development player for Origin II, just days after he made his reserve-grade debut for the Jets.

Broncos coach Wayne Bennett said he had no issue with Walters’ stance and insists Hunt has the ability to handle an Origin baptism.

“I wasn’t surprised Ben was called into camp,” he said. “It’s what they do these days. Kevin rang me and asked if it was OK and I said go for your life, I’ve got no problems.”

Hunt forged a slick alliance against the Raiders with rejuvenated playmaker Benji Marshall, who says the Maroons hopeful’s axing was the wake-up call he needed.

“It teaches you hunger,” Marshall said.

“I know what it’s like to get dropped back to reserve grade — I’ve played for Redcliffe this year.

“It showed Ben where he wants to be and it gives you perspective.

“To see the way he handled it, that’s what makes a professional.”

On track to use our most ever number of players this series.

If none of the halves put up a huge case this weekend except Munster do we just move Gagai to centre and Oates to wing. Hate to promote someone away from where they are succeeding so well and his defence is a question but allows all storm spine and Morgan on bench. If Gagai is struggling backup is Oates to pack for a short stint and Morgan to centre with gagai back to wing.

Hope Kaufusi kills it tonight in a losing Melbourne team !
