Finals Week 1

He's Annoying, I hate when it is his turn to speak, I like the show as well they just get to political and into stuff to much sometimes to the point where they are arguing with each other.
I hate to say it but good work by Kent in sticking it to Rothfield. His last comments about people needing to stop giving it to refs and talking down the game was obviously a backhander to the likes of Rothfield.

Gus Gould is having a whinge and making excuses about crowd attendances being effected by the success of the Storm and Broncos.....

Well this lines up with the Sydney mindset of penalising success and making every club bog ordinary in the name of evening up the comp.

An embarrassing turn-out of around 52,000 across three finals games at Allianz Stadium last weekend left the game's bosses red-faced and searching for answers.
Panthers boss Gould believes the NRL is paying the price for fawning over the Broncos and Storm and neglecting the nine Sydney clubs
"I often wonder if the NRL cares about the Sydney clubs," he said on the weekly Six Tackles with Gus podcast.
"My feeling has been for over a decade that (the NRL thinks) as long as Melbourne and Brisbane were doing well, rugby league was doing well.
"You might think that's a biased view from a bloke who grew up in Sydney, but the figures sort of back it up.
"I wonder where the game will be in 10 years' time. I wonder how many Sydney clubs there'll be.
"I wonder if the NRL really cares how many Sydney clubs there'll be because within the game there is a feeling that Melbourne and Brisbane are the lamplighters, they're the ones."
Gould said the NRL's attitude was also impacting on clubs outside of Sydney.
"Look at the poor old Warriors. They've just allowed them to descend into an embarrassment," he said.
"Look at where Newcastle is now. There just hasn’t been enough care taken with the promotion and development of our game."

Anyone who has followed the Warriors know they have had issues from day one yet still manage to survive and as for the Knights, for all the crap their fan base has endured they are credit to the game and put the majority of sydney club supporters to shame.

The problem with Sydney teams and their supporters is they want to have their cake and eat it too. On the one hand they are happy to have an extreme amount of teams stuffed into a fairly small region of the game, then cry foul that they suffer from it. They are effectively handicapping themselves in the process but want to bitch about it being someone elses fault. Their crowd attendances for finals games were piss weak and deserved to be bagged. You want more even spread of talent, sponsership and TV coverage? Then it's going to take some tough decisions to make that happen and quite frankly they don't have the balls, they still live with the NSWRL mentality.

Gould's rant still didn't give a reason for Sydney's crowds being shithouse. Or a solution for that matter... It was just another excuse to have a go at us and Melbourne for being better than them. In fact I'm not even sure how well Melbourne are doing off field. What are their crowd/membership numbers? What exactly was he trying to get at?

It's what I have come to expect from Gould in the media light, he likes to rant on about issues in the game giving the impression he is in it for the games best interests, but then doesn't want to put his hand up to offer real solutions to the problem because that would put him in a position where he would have to put his money where his mouth is.

I read that the Storm had the second highest average crowd in 2017.

I sort of agree with him in that the NRL can't use the crowds in Brisbane and Melbourne as an excuse to pretend the crowds NRL wide are decent. Outside of a few teams, they are usually a failure. Gould obviously doesn't have a solution, but I do - get rid of the shitty clubs first, then start expanding to other states.

Gould is just stating what we all know and having a go at successful clubs for...reasons. If he really cares, he'd do something about it but hey, he's gotta print something to keep relevant right?

It's because the Broncos do run their stuff so accurately that he himself got schooled about system during 2014-2015. He embraced the culture Redhill so much so that he's replicating the same down in Penrith. If any clubs start to have a good development system like the Broncos, I am sure many kids would be interested in them. Brisbane and Melbourne are successful only because of the sole reason. All the whiners can never stop whinging.
