Manly Sea Eagles - Salary Cap Breach

Reading the comments online you'd think it was us who got busted. Our team is nothing like it was from 2006-2009.

Social media is just hilarious atm. Article about Manly......"Well what about the fuckin Broncos? Aren't they over the cap?"

I can only imagine what LU is like.....

I honestly don't know where this crap comes from, it must be just years of seething hate still built up from the early 90's when all the best queenslanders WANTED to play for us as a big middle finger to the NSWRL. We don't even have what you would call a genuine superstar(yet) on our books. The closest we have to one is Milford who is still yet to show consistency. No Thurston, no Smith, no Slater, no Cronk, no Inglis, no Tedesco etc etc. If we were cheating the cap wouldn't we at least have one of those on the books?

Milford doesn't play like a superstar yet but he is the money of one. Performance doesn't always relate to salary.

Yeah maybe the contract he signed this year for 2018 onwards, but that doesn't explain the last 5 years of accusations.

A NORTH Shore grandmother has become caught up in Manly’s salary cap crisis as the NRL investigates third-party payments the mystery benefactor has made to Sea Eagles players.
The 81-year-old Sea Eagles fanatic, who asked not to be named, said she had no idea her sponsorship deals were being investigated when contacted by The Daily Telegraph.
The mystery woman revealed she has been a third-party sponsor to several high-profile Manly players over the years, including former star five-eighth Kieran Foran and hooker Mat Parcell.
She said she usually supported one or two players a season, who were paid through a trust fund, and that her agreements had all been registered with the NRL.

But now the NRL Integrity Unit is investigating whether or not her acts of generosity equate to third-party deals or donations to ensure players re-sign.
“I have registered third-party deals, yes,” she said. “Registered by the NRL. I have sponsored players, I work with (player) managers.
“I have done nothing wrong and can’t imagine what the problem would be. There’s been no payments other than what I have done through the NRL.
“I have not been spoken to and would happily show them my books, they can have a look at them anytime they like. I’ve got nothing to hide at all.
“Every sponsorship I have had has been registered with the NRL and approved by them.
“It’s a third-party sponsorship, it goes straight to the NRL for registration. I have done it voluntarily. Not in a very big way but enough to satisfy my needs.
“I wouldn’t do anything that was illegal, each one has been approved by the NRL.”

It’s believed the NRL is looking into the woman’s relationship with the club.
“I get quite a lot out of it, actually,” the woman said. “I have been sponsoring Manly for years and years and get an awful lot out of sponsoring them.”

Pressed on exactly what she does get in return, the woman said: “I’m not going to have you printing that in the papers, thank you very much. But I get plenty.

“I sponsored Kieran Foran before. I became great friends with him, I’m still great friends with him. I see him all the time. I had Kieran for three years.
“I form relationships with the players. I have remained friendly with all of them.”
A Sea Eagles fan since 1969, the woman said she began sponsoring the players several years ago.
“Not many people know I do this, my family do,” she said. “Most people at the club don’t know.”

So manly have signed Joel Thompson, they must have adopted the roosters salary cap model in order to get compliant.

Bumped to keep relevant. What's happening with this investigation or will it take 2 years like the investigation into Sharks drug charges? Or are they hoping people forget about ‘granny's payments' while complaining about the 'rorting one town' Broncos:angry::angry:

The result will be something like:

The Manly-Waringah Sea Eagles have been found guilty of systematic cap rotting over the past few seasons and being general high life grubs.

Therefore, the Brisbane Broncos will be stripped of their 92, 93, 98, 00 and 06 titles and will not be allowed to compete for points until the Manly club is once again cap compliant.

The Sea Eagles will also be awarded the 97 ARL title and be offered a full pardon by the Newcastle Knights for winning it instead. No one cares about the Broncos of 97 winning the stronger title. We will not take questions at this or any further time because we simply never know how to answer anything properly anyway.

*No parties have right to appeal. This decision is final.

Manly had a week to respond to the NRL over the breach. Silence since. Pathetic.

NRL needs to wake the **** up. There's also the dodgy Thurston/Cam Smith charity trial match next month too.

If this year's premiers are one of the 3 teams I have mentioned in this post (Manly/Cowboys/Storm) I'm just gonna put "*" next to it.
