2018 NRL Side

You've just given Badel his next story.

My sources inside pangai's camp indicate he's unhappy with coming from the bench and will move for a starting spot.

My sources also inform me that the roosters will make a play of around $3m a season and have made a request to the NRL to play with all 17 on the field

Latest update, they are requesting all 21 player squad initially named to be on the field with all 15 remaining clubs paying their contracts at the Roosters for being the Sydney Roosters only. Phil Gould has gone in to bat demanding that the NRL meet their demands immediately.

If we're intent on keeping our young forward stars then Glenn will definitely have to go and possibly Sims if he doesn't continue to improve. Oates hopefully performs in the second row.

8. Matthew Lodge
10. Josh McGuire
11. Corey Oates
12. Matt Gillett
13. Tevita Pangai Junior
---------------------------
14. Jaydn Su'a
15. Patrick Mago
16. Joe Ofahengaue
17. Payne Haas

I see nothing wrong with that forward pack once the players have developed further. In a couple of years that forward pack could be the best in the comp..

As depth we could have Andre Savelio, Patrick Carrigan, David Fifita, George Fai.. the list goes on

I would keep Jack Bird as a back. Could develop into a 6 or 1 but I really do think his best position is centre. He'll get run down at lock.
I reckon Fifita will be more than a depth player wherever he ends up.He's a special.

So overall a side like this would suffice

1. Anthony Milford
2. Darius Boyd
3. Jack Bird
4. James Roberts
5. Jordan Kahu
6. Kodi Nikorima
7. Troy Dargan
8. Matthew Lodge
9. Andrew McCullough
10. Josh McGuire
11. Corey Oates
12. Matt Gillett
13. Tevita Pangai Junior
----------------------------
14. Jaydn Su'a
15. Patrick Mago
16. Joe Ofahengaue
17. Payne Haas

Assuming Boyd slows down, I'd like Milford to get back to playing like Tedesco does at fullback. Trim him down and let him float around looking for the offloads and overlaps.

Hopefully we have recruited a better halfback or have developed someone decent for what we need on the field.

Su'a would be an ideal utility, reminds me of a more solid Tyrone Peachey.

I just can't see Milford ever going back to fullback. Too much time has been put into developing him into 5/8th.

Anyone else find these labels of preferred positions on the broncs site a bit strange?

Nikorima - Hooker

Kahu - Centre

McGuire - Prop

Would have Fifita in there if there were a spot. Who would you drop/release for him?
Sua, Mago or Oates. I just think that Fifita will be a star, and can't see all of these 3 holding positions in front of him.

Meninga was also a big star in the making. Bennet didn’t start him until he thought he was ready. Is Fifita any different?

Isin't Fifita 17? i don't know enough about Mago, but thats a big call stating he should be over Oates and even Sua. Fifita hasn't even been tested yet to say he will be a star, besides school boy footy and we all know about that. the step up mentally and physically is crazy. I heard he is only just holding his own in training, but has struggled. give the kid time without hyping him too much. Haas would be over him right now, let alone players who have played NRL.

Just not going to happen

If Darius slows down too much for FB and Wayne decided to move him, it's much more likely he will find a FB to replace him

The MILF is staying at 6

Dargan has been bought to replace Kodi if needed, not partner him

IMO of course!

Meninga debuted for Souths when he was 18.
Yes, but he was playing lower grades for Souths when younger and Bennett resisted a push from supporters and the media to elevate him to senior level.

I made that side with the current squad and no new signings. Not a bad side for that fact

Not a bad side but not a side that will win premierships. Which is why it will look noticeably different in the future.

Out of all our trial games, i think the first one at Theodore is going to be very important. I believe it will be made up of mostly the younger guys so for blokes like Hass, Carrigan, Sua, Dargan, Fai, Funaki etc are going to need to impress if they want to get a good shot at making the NRL side.

Not exactly relevant but, on NRL.com they have pictures of the emerging blues squad and none of Haas or TPJ. WTF!

Started him as soon as Souths got him from the Academy in 1979. Bennett had been there since '77.

First trial of the year v Brothers at Corbett he scored two tries and kicked five goals at 18.
