Milf’s 3rd tackle kick wasn’t as terrible as people are saying. We were able to pin them in the 10m zone, but couldn’t muscle up and defend. Probably because we were exhausted (fresh legs would have been handy). The kick didn’t go dead and lead to a 7 tackle set ffs. Milf was actually pretty good.

Nikorima & Boyd on the other hand, gah!
Macca needs a 15 min break. Like he used to get in 2015. The defence against him don’t have to adjust their game for him, he’s not elite but he’s not dreadful- just needs help!

I wouldn’t mind a change of coach, I think it’s time. Need an entire new headspace here!

As stated Walters would be my next in line after Seibold.. He has displayed in the past he is not afraid to drop blokes, and usher in some talent - albeit in the Origin arena.
With WB at the helm, we will continue with our captain/fullback and Niko at 7. Our spine is broken. I could see Walters actually purchasing, or bringing thru a genuine half which we do not currently have and maybe giving the captaincy to a bloke who actually gives something rather then continually chucking his hands in the air.

even with Walters we will likely continue with Boyd, and even if he moves from fullback, he will not lose the captaincy.

Good origin coaches (and i wouldn't even put Walters in that category) don't always make good club coaches ... you need to look no further than Meninga to see that ... most successful coach in origin history, but a club winning record of around 50%.

Walter has done nothing in club coaching (in either the ISC or ESL)

JD on the other hand has had success everywhere he has gone:

  • player coach of Keighley Cougars (2011-2012) - Gained promotion in his first season
  • Northern Pride (2013-2014) - back to back minor premierships; won the ISC premiership and inaugural state championship in 2014
  • QLD Residents coach (2014) - defeated NSW in that game
  • Assistant at the Cowboys in 2015 (we all know what happened there)
  • Assistant at Dragons and Illawarra Cutters coach in 2016 - NSW Cup premiers and a second state championship (also named as the NSW Cup coach of the year in 2016)

I guarantee you anything that if the ref wasn't a corrupt moron trying to send us to ANOTHER GP game and Milford was allowed to score that try off the Macca grubber, there wouldn't be a shred of criticism of him in this thread.

Instead the try is denied, we lose the game and all of a sudden Milford is a fat overpaid hack because he made one poor Ben Hunt like decision to kick on the 3rd. Give yourselves an uppercut.

Kodi coming on late in the game was fire in 2015.

I reckon niko is being isolated too easily in defence. He's left out for slaughter and was evident in that cooper try. Tpj wanted to smash Scott all night so Scott drew him in and niko was left on his own to defend against cooper. He had no chance. Little fella needs protection

Nashy, your the most honest blokes on here & for the most part I agree with you and all feel the frustration but cant agree with you on Shibasaki. Other than Feldt miss which was a second effort I thought he did pretty well. I cant have a dig at debutant when we had 100 plus gamers that were rubbish.

You don't have to agree with me, that's what makes this place great. I don't think he had a good game, and I don't think he was better than the bloke he replaced. I think he's too raw to be in the team this late into the season.

I'm more pissed off that Staggs kept a seat warm all night and wasn't bought in.

He needs the flick. He's too small to defend, too sporadic in attack, hasn't got a playmaking brain in his head...He is the very definition of a band aid solution in the 7.

He is a band aid solution, but he is all we have really. He is still miles better than our other options and that's the problem.

I think Staggs would have made the same error honestly. Problem was as soon as Oates came in and smashed their bloke it left us open. Oates and Milf probably don't have that trust and communication they have with others. Staggs and Shibasaki are pretty quite, they don't do a lot of talking, where you notice Boyd and Opacic at center never shut up. It's something that will come with time for them. Some people just arent talkers naturally.

I turned off after watching the ref get the Cowboys back into the game. The penalties were soft, the callinv Milfords try back, he was about to dive over when the play was blown up.. our first half was shit, no doubt, but until the refs got involved we were going to run away with that. They turned the game back into the Cowboys favour, even the Cowboys defensive line suddenly "got fast" and they were always in our face once the fix was on. Can't let JT go out with a spoon now can we.

Kevvie took Jets to the Grand Final in 2008 and they lost in the last 30 seconds.
Won a ISC premiership with Toowoomba in 2001

106 games at 67% win- a lot more than JD.

That would be a penalty against us though... we got the ball back for a crowding penalty and he didn't call the penalty until after Macca kicked it.

He was either playing advantage or he incorrectly called a ruck penalty AFTER the ruck was cleared.
They don't ever play advantage with ruck infringements, so it was just a late call. Frustrating I agree, but consistent with how they've been reffing this year.

Here is an instance of it happening earlier in the year with two other teams.

Anyone without a vested interest in seeing us / Wayne / Scapegoat Player fail could see that last night was one of the most scripted games in the history of manufactured results.

It was spoken about pre-game, we were never going to win, but it was always going to be a manufactured close result.

When either team was down by enough points, the ghost penalties came out. For the first 70 minutes though, both teams got the benefits of the calls. There was one there when we were "fighting back" where Sims just flopped like a fish with no defenders touching him, gets a penalty in front. Once the Cows were 12 behind with 20 to go, they got every fucking call. The commentators were wanking on how much of a difference Scott, Taumalolo and McLean made, but dismiss the fact the Cowboys got 3 or 4 piggybacks late in the tackle count simply by holding the jerseys of our tacklers and not allowing them to get off to milk penalties. It was the exact same tactics as the 2015 grand final, but the refs didn't just fall for it, they were hoping for it so they could blow the whistle.

We should have been up by 8 when McCullough grubbered for Milford for what would have been the match-sealing try, but nope, that's not the fairytale we're after tonight.

I'm less pissed off with the result, and more pissed off that you could foresee 5 minutes in to the future and it just went perfectly to plan. This competition is a manufactured farce, scripted by the need for TV ratings, engineered by the bloke in the video ref's chair (how that still hasn't blown up just shows how protected Greenburg is), and enacted by a bunch of pawns on the field who are all vying to have their fairytale be THE fairytale of that season.

Not having a shot at you mate but if you thought the Broncos were never going to win and that the result was pre-determined why did you tune in to watch it?

If you think the entire competition is manufactured what are you doing following it?

First things first, most of what you said I used to spout a lot too. Then I realised the stupidity of it.

Also, reading an article by Steve Mascord changed my mind and it revolves around a pretty good point he made: You are accusing people of a lack of integrity but are showing none yourself by continuing to support a game you think is corrupt.

Does anyone think the NRL is competent enough to manufacture results and get away it? They’ve proven, time and again, that they’d **** up a cup of coffee.

Things like the Milford No-Try last night was a tough call but the referee had blown the whistle for a ruck infringement. Play couldn’t go on. It’s a tough call but there’s nothing sinister going on there.

I though the refereeing last night was pretty fair. If people take off their Broncos blinkers they would see that most of them were warranted. Broncos were laying all over the play the ball and guys like Glenn were pretty blatant about it.

What is not being discussed is some crucial 50/50 calls went our way too.

Blowing up about 50/50 calls, in the heat of the moment, during a live game is part and parcel of being a fan. Nothing wrong with that.

Labelling matches as being decided before a ball has been kicked or that the NRL have decided who is going to win is another matter entirely.

I’m a bit over it. It’s all a conspiracy! The refs! Greenburg! JT! Paul Kent! Jarryd Hayne! Everyone’s in on it!

Again, I’m no saint. I’ve indulged freely in that sort of talk but I’m trying not to from now on as some of my posts on this topic are downright embarrassing in retrospect.

Moving on from last night and speaking more broadly about NRL fandom I’d like to paraphrase Mascord again: If you are calling people out for their lack of integrity, show some yourself and stop supporting a game you believe is corrupt.

Don’t watch Fox League all week and then complain about Ikin and Kent peddling an agenda.

Stop watching every game and then complain how it’s rigged and the premiers have already been decided.

I guess until we have a game manager life is pointless and we shouldn’t even bother fielding a team because it’s obvious we can’t win because it’s rigged even though we weren’t going to win anyway.

I’m still trying to square that hole and reconcile those two opinions.

We would’ve won with a decent halfback last night and yet we were never allowed to win because the result was decided.

I don’t know who to believe lol. I just see the stupidity in holding that view and seeing nothing wrong with it.

Most of all, don’t show up next week like a whipped dog and go through the motions again.

It might be time to get a new hobby fellas.

Anyways, rant over.

Top 3 for POTY easily. So glad he’s staying

Wonder if he is a shout for the Paul Morgan medal? Considering the absolute disgrace our experienced players have been this season would love to see someone like Lodge or TPJ win it

Yet people still stick up for guys like Macca and McGuire because they are rep players. Both offer nothing

I’m glad someone’s finally said it because I’ve been thinking this for a while and wanted to know if somehow my emotions were clouding my judgement

Maccas i can see why people aren't happy with, but not Moose. He is still consistently good, he just needs to cut the grubbiness out of his game

Anyways, rant over.

The existence of game management and penalty kpis (refs telling each other what the count is) is enough to suggest that they aren’t doing what they’re supposed to do: referee the game as they see it and enforce the rules evenly throughout the match.

For example, our ruck speed when we copped about three penalties in the final quarter of the game was no worse than the cow’s, and certainly not as slow as Melbourne’s. That peeling penalty is something the storm do in legitmatley every tackle, after they’ve worked a bloke over towards his own goal line on the ground.

Edit: it’d be like if a t20 was starting to become lopsided the umpire starts turning down lbw shouts and calling no balls when the foot isn’t over the line. The sport doesn’t need that sort of nonsense to be interesting, neither does RL.

I don’t think that they’re smart enough to consciously rig it like a wwe event, but subconsciously? All we ever hear about is how close every cows Broncos game is, and the refs are notorious for what I stated above so no one in the media will call them out if a few ‘dubious’ calls got the score line close.

But you’re right about losing interest and why don’t I walk away if I believe it’s manufactured. If it wasn’t for SuperCoach I’d only watch Broncos games, I already have lost pretty much all interest in Origin. It’s a shame, because I love the sport dearly. Contact sport will be dead in my life time anyway, so the nrl kicking its decline into overdrive may help soften that reality.
