it is true Macca has been at his best when he's had a replacement breathing down his neck, whether that is complacency or him playing better when not under fatigue - i'm not sure.

In my opinion - and others have echoed it - Macca has been at his all time best this season during a period of unprecedented failure. I don't recall Macca playing any better than he did against Souths, for example, which was one of our most humiliating drubbings. He's already "lifted."

Switching hooker has had an immediate and profound effect on the team, as it did last year during Macca's absence. We just convincingly matched and beat the leading team in the comp. There's no question of whether the new hookers can handle "big games." They killed it.

Some see Turpin as a temporary fix, while an increasingly growing group notably myself, think we're seeing the start of something really special. If not, we have Segeyaro, who we already know is something special.

We have gone from an embarrassment to an embarrassment of riches in the dummy half position.

I’ve been a fan of his since last year. Going forward it’s hard to see how anyone could deny that he’s the future. Good service, speed, brutal contact in defence and a decent dummy half run. He does need to consistently preform week in week out, but the more he plays at NRL level the more other clubs will take notice, especially if he gets put back to Q Cup. If we could offload Macca we could secure him long term at a fraction of the price

I'm willing to give Macca another go with a competent hooker breathing down his neck.

My preference would be Turpin with Segeyaro on the bench. However, whenever Macca has had that competition for his spot, he has improved. I'm willing to give him a shot for a few games and see how he goes with Segeyaro on the bench.

We've seen in 2015 that it works. But if he doesn't improve, then he should go.

And the reality is, Macca will come back into the side when he's back from injury. It's inevitable. We have a young side, we have several players with 10 games or less of experience.

However, whenever Macca has had that competition for his spot,

For mine, this is one of the main reasons he has to go. To only give a shit about your spot when there is healthy competition is a disgusting piss-poor attitude and one I don't want in my team. It might have flown under Bennett but we are moving on from that. Still, I agree he will probably get a shot when healthy. Hopefully it's 2 games max. Our other options will get deals elsewhere if he becomes a mainstay just because.

You wonder why you cop shit for hedging your bets too.
What a dumb comment. I like both of them. Like I said, we suddenly have an embarrassment of riches in the hooking department. Turpin will be doing well if he can keep Segeyaro on the bench.

I agree with you there.

It's one of the reasons why I wanted Bennett gone. Players got a little too comfortable under him. Now players are being put on notice under Seibold. Hopefully Macca is one of those.

You seem to have a very low opinion of Seibold, if you've resigned yourself to this fate. We're maybe only two weeks from the eight if we continue on this trajectory. We'll know next week if the win against the Roosters was a fluke. If we can put 20+ on the Warriors, I think we can start talking about the title. There's my prediction, along with a hedge.

What will you think of Seibold if he reinstates Macca? He showed some grit in getting rid of Kodi. I didn't see that coming - or like it at the time - but it was the right decision. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt now.

I've just watched enough Rugby League over the years to know that with such a young and inexperienced team, the coaches will almost always favour experience and give those guys a chance to show why they should be in the side.

Embarrassment of riches is a bit over the top.

True. But he booted Farah, and he was a much better hooker than Macca.

Hardly. Segeyaro on the bench. Macca, the incumbent Origin hooker, back in the QLD Cup. That's depth in my book.

I'm looking at it from a different angle, AS's perspective I believe. He doesn't really owe McCullough anything but what he has seen must, absolutely must be contrasted against Cook's performances for him. He's human right? With that in mind and the real possibility that he will have to change a winning formula I struggle to see why he would risk it. I wouldn't. I'd hazard a guess and say he's seen enough of McCullough to know and what he has seen is a losing hooker without real attacking prowess.

I'm not saying McCullough can't or won't improve but realistically I think we've seen his best possible game...and can't remember it.

In saying that who do you go with for the number 9? Turpin or Seggy?

Would be upset if he continues to stink it up but keeps the spot. As others have said, he will probably only be seeing 50-60min\ game from now on IF he gets a look in. If reinstated, he would be on his last chance to impress imo. Otherwise, he could go join KNIK, Kahu, McG or Roberts.

If I was in charge he would have to wait for injuries to occur to our other options before he got another shot.

I'd stick with the one-two punch of Turpin starting and Seggy on the bench for now, and see what happens. I think it's too hard to call right now. Both were excellent against the Roosters.

I think macca will be brought back into the team when fit, but like many, dont think it is in the best interest of the team, particularly in light of recemt performances. Service from the ruck has been crisp and gets halves and forwards running onto the balls.

As others have pointed out, our defence does not seem significantly affected. And although macca racks up tackle numbers, turpin and seg putting on solid/big shots fires the big men up to follow suit.

I think having seg on the bench worked well for us (as did having kniko in 2015) and should be continued. I know AS prefers an 80 min hooker but we have forwards who can play longer minutes so can probably sacrifice the replacement.

I really like macca and his experience in the training squad is valuable but dont think he is the best #9 for us at this time.

I think Seggy needs to stay as a bench hooker. I've always liked having an impact dummy half runner off the bench, I think it's severely underused.
