Sounds like Roberts had a good game today.

He might find his way back in the side. We'll see.

Wasn't to great if you ask me , still was kicking stones a bit. Was some good signs though.

Milf would play even if selected for origin. It’s the Sunday game and he would get like 20 minutes max off the bench.
Oh yeah, you're probably right. I mixed up the draw dates, my mistake

James Roberts was solid today, but not exactly pushing for a spot in FG. Looked underdone and didn't want to get involved much besides a few patches here and there.

I agree. He’s not fit enough. I thought the last play of the game really told the story. The second his fullback got into space he should have taken off in support but instead he slowed to a walk and watched him go. Someone who was desperate to get back into first grade would have gone charging upfield in support.

No, but there were some good signs. When they were pinned in their 10 getting belted byba set defence and Roberts couldn't get a run on his edge he came infield and took a good run on the left, I liked that. As you say, not bashing down the first grade door but I wouldn't be packing his bags just yet either. I wonder how he is physically let alone mentally.

Yep, thought it was a soft effort in the second half where he fell backwards with that tackle and Devils scored over the top of him. Some front on contact wouldn’t go astray...

Not a terrible game, but didn’t exactly play like a player with a point to prove...

Since we have the bye this week he’ll probably have to go around again.
Probably should spend the full week training with Wynnum too.

He did look way less bloated in the face, but yeh by the second half he was gassed quite noticeably. How he gets match fit without games and with needing to rest his Achilles strain is a big ask that he will need to workout. But in the first half he was smiling, following the play, giving advice in relation to positional play to others and genuinely looked interested.

I hope for his sake and for the Broncos that he manages to regain fitness and a place in our backline.

I said it yesterday, Roberts looked lazy and disinterested, especially in the second half. No way should he be anywhere near this side right now until his effort levels improve.

Unfit*
And you're right. He shouldn't be in the side until he's fit
You're welcome

Yep, thought exactly the same thing.

Well why is he unfit? Yes he hasn't had a game in 2 weeks prior but how does that affect his fitness if he wants to put in? A game is 80 minutes once a week and if he was busting his arse to get back he would be working hard at training to keep that fitness up.

With the talent that Roberts has it should have been man against boys yesterday if he was committed and wanted to be in the team.

I don't think Roberts is ever going to be a player that puts in 110% week in week out.

He's always going to be a player that puts in less and gets by due to his speed and ability because there is always going to be a club that will sign him the first chance they get.

You just get players like that. Jarryd Hayne is a perfect example. All the talent you could ever possibly want but never had the attitude to go to that next level consistently.

We need to decide whether we want a player like that on our books. He'll most definitely come up with match-winning plays from time to time, but he's never going to have that drive to be the very best he can be consistently.

His 2017 was pretty great all round... also his 2017 was the last time he wasn't injured.
Getting him back to his best requires that Achilles to be fixed.
