Israel Folau’s secret meeting with the Brisbane Broncos revealed

If he's pretty much quoting Christian scripture, the fact that Christian values aren't the centerpiece of the "moral outrage" about Izzy is confusing the hell out of me.

So, the fact he says it out loud, or online is the issue? Not the religion that preaches it?

Or aren't we allowed to talk about it? It's OK to quietly believe everyone is is going to hell, as long as you don't tweet about it?

The thing is , his post wasn't quoting scripture. Scripture was quoted in the caption, but his ignorant image was not scripture quote at all.

I’ve resisted entertaining this idea, as it seems an extremely long shot. But no more.

If there is any truth to this rumour at all, then surely the last 2 weeks proves we should be doing everything we can to make this a possibility, including working with the NRL and Folau to get done what needs doing.

This team needs an experienced strike player. Folau is not only both those things, but is also currently unemployed and looking for an opportunity.

It’s free to ask, so why we would not be looking into this.

the only shot he would have, and it appears to still be an extremely long shot, is to remove the offensive tweet ... unfortunately he flat out refuses to do this as some jack ass has convinced him he will go to hell if he does ...

so with that, we can close the door on his sporting career in Australia

Just fucking delete the tweet, stop using tweeter completely (it's fucking dumb anyway), and join the Broncos already! I dunno about fullback, I think you've gotta be more mobile than in Yawnion, but I'd take him in the centres for sure.

I don't think deleting the tweets is going to cut it after this effort. Talk about getting out the chainsaw, petrol and a box of matches...

I can't believe anyone wants this bigoted idiot anywhere near a team that is already struggling to repair a seemingly broken culture. We're not contenders, and he's not the missing piece that's going to make us contenders. He's at the wrong end of his career so he's not a long term solution. And he just seems like a really shitty human being.

Just give it up and become a preacher, mate. Seems like that's what you're most passionate about.

Wow, the poor guy thinks he's genuinely doing the right thing, but he's being fed bullshit. No surprises that it happened at his "father's Church".

I can't see him coming back from this. He himself is professing to put God before all else, there's no way he's going to go back on what he's said just for the money or to play a sport. That's the end of that.

All he was saying is that he feels it’s fucked up that there are new laws being pushed that a 16 year old doesn’t need the permission of their parents to start transitioning. I do tend to agree.... that’s a big call for a kid to make especially at that age. This was all said inside his church by the way, not social media, totally different circumstances to the first.More to the point who is filming his sermons inside his church than posting them

The problem is, it will never be reported like that. The whole truth of the situation, or the beliefs, are never fully explained. As the headline said, "Israel Folau targets gays, transgender children in church sermon". That's not even accurate. He's targeting the laws being brought in to place for allowing children, who potentially aren't even mature enough to make a decision, begin a process that will change them forever, without adult consent.

It in itself is a fair question to ask. However he has done himself no favours by wrapping it up in the concept of homosexuality being a sin, that the Devil is forcing this sin upon the world. That's what everyone will focus on and it will rightly be ridiculed.

Exactly!

From a sermon point of view you can sort of see how him saying the devil is forcing his hand on the world ties in on his first point. Either way the media have done a excellent job with the dramatics

Can't religious people keep their non-sense to themselves? Stay the **** away from the law with the stupid beliefs, believe whatever you want in your own home. How about some laws protecting children from religious brainwashing? THAT is an actual issue, non a fucking sixteen year old wanting to change gender.

I think the media have a fair point to be cynical of a "this is the Devil's work" justification. Unfortunately, anything he says, regardless of its validity, will now be dragged back to these views.

Yes how unfortunate.

Well the sermon was made in a church so I’m not exactly sure what you mean by keep it to yourself.
I think you’ll find that the whole reason he was saying it is to protect children from irresponsible laws coming in which would allow someone that is just old enough to hold a learners license from making a life long decision without their parents permission.
And this isn’t just wearing lipstick and high heels, we are talking about injecting drugs and hormones into a child. He has a right to a valid opinion just as you are, as much as you hate it

Yeah it’s been clear in the past that religion and media don’t go well together. Though, they are sort of doing him a favour by bringing these issues to light and having his sermons put on prime time news, that is if he doesn’t care about his football career

Keep it to yourself means don't pollute the public with religious agenda targeting to influence the law.

A sixteen year old can make up their own mind...but waiting until eighteen is sensible in my opinion. My opinion shouldn't affect someone else's life in any adverse way though. Some religious people can't accept this, and morons like Folau have undue influence in the public, as he is the definition of a religious fundamentalist.

He is not interested in 'protecting children' by the way. Protect children from religious fundamentalism, protect their minds - it's abuse to force a child to think as a religious fanatic. It's abuse to poision their thinking at such an early age, and Folau doesn't care.

But that’s the thing mate, you say that a 16 year old is old enough to decide weather they want to make a life long decision such as transitioning. So surely they can choose whether or not they believe in religion or what an ex footballer says.

If anything the media are they ones forcing his views onto the community by showing it on the news, this was all said inside a church and the media decided to post it all over the tv. Dose this mean the media are being reasonable? Considering the effect it has on transgender people?

Also if he shouldn’t be able to push his agenda due to his profile, dose that rule also apply to people with opposite views to Him?

It is an extremely complex subject and can be look at from hundreds of different angles.
