Tevita Pangai Jr. Discussion

So we have a bit of a dilemma about where to play him, don't we? His defence pretty much screams "front row", he can be extremely loose, and if he charges out, it's better if you've got other defenders right there with him. On the other hand, his attack just seems to be better in the 2nd row - he's had less games there, but probably still more damaging ones than in the middle of the field.
With Gillett struggling and Fifita still developing, maybe Seibold should leave him as a starting 2nd rower on the right for now? See if he can get confidence back that way and then see how it goes?

This forward pack would be so good. Imagine it in the year 2021..

I'm starting to think we'll be better off with TPJ on the edge. He can terrorize the halves all game.

In Fifita's time in the backrow, he hasn't shown what TPJ showed today.

We could possibly just change what his role is at lock. Have him float out to the edges whenever he likes. Allow him to offload like he did tonight as well as ball playing.

I’d keep tpj on the bench until gillet moves on. Then you’d have bench impact galore with tpj, Fifita and offa. This is until gillet and Glenn move on in a couple of years

Don't think TPJ's defense is good enough on the edge just yet but his attack is so damaging out there (basically our own version of Kikau).

Have to remember he got burnt 2 or 3 times by SJ in the Tonga game only a few weeks back playing in 2nd row.

It was also his side that was getting torched yesterday... not going to be often that we field a right side of TPJ, Turps, Shiba and Coates so that alone may have been the issue.

I like the idea of getting TPJ out onto the edge even though he defends in the middle... definitely something they should look into because it's very damaging out there

Andrew Johns was in the commentary box bemoaning the lack of cohesion and communication on that side in defence and I had to honestly roll my eyes because it's like it was genuinely shocking to him that a combination of guys who might have trained together twice ever in that setup were struggling to work cohesively.

Yep, give them a whole off-season together and put Bird into the middle of that rather than Shiba and I think our right edge defence issues evaporate...
