Jake Locks In With The Broncos

The Broncos have nailed down another stake in the club’s future with the signing of young hooker Jake Turpin.

Turpin has signed a three-year deal with the Broncos, that includes options in the players’ favour in years two and three.

It is a just reward for the 22-year-old Queensland product, who hails from Haigslea, just west of Ipswich.

Turpin has had a breakthrough season in 2019, playing strongly at both hooker and in the halves in 13 NRL matches.

He has scored two tries, including the match winner over the Cronulla Sharks last month.

Broncos’ chief executive Paul White said the Ipswich Brothers’ junior had earned his new deal.

“We are very pleased to have locked Jake up as he had attracted plenty of interest from elsewhere,” said White.

“Jake has shown everyone the talent he has and the progression he has made this season.

“The Broncos are excited to sign him to this contract and look forward to watching him develop further in the coming years.”

Turpin said he was excited to have cemented his future as the Broncos try to make a run for the NRL finals.

“I am very happy to have signed this contract to stay with the Broncos,” he said.

“My aim now is to work hard over the next five weeks to ensure the team has its best shot at the NRL finals.”

That run will begin with Thursday's XXXX Derby against the North Queensland Cowboys in Townsville.

Hookers and contract player options, name a more iconic duo lol.

Awesome news though. And well, we need him in the 9 now (as if we didn't already!)

Great news, but this player's favour option shit has to stop. The way I see it, he's been signed for one year, and then if he turns out to be useless he can bully us into keeping him for another two. Or if he gets hunted by another club in a year he's free to **** off.

How is that signing him for a three year deal?

Or you could look at it that if he isn't getting game time, he can leave the following year to pursue better options?

Player options are a form of currency in sports. We may not be able to afford to pay him the money that a Warriors or someone else could offer, but the player options give him added flexibility and leverage.

If he gets injured or under-performs, he can opt in with no risk to his pay cheque. If he performs as expected or above expectation, he can opt in for year 2 and renegotiate an upgraded contract for 2022 and beyond. If he falls out of favour at the club and ends up back in ISC, he has the flexibility to opt in and cash those cheques, or opt out and look for a starting gig elsewhere.

Yep, it's a really bad deal for the club. They need to cut it out. This is a one year contract, with a further two years he can stink up the place at his own discretion like Macca's doing.

That's a different clause. That's the club's discretion to let him go.

**** yes.

Brilliant. This is as valuable as TPJ on 600. Seibs surely has to be planning him full time at 9.

I think it's a good deal, because I don't believe he has had enough time to show us if he is our future 9 yet . Not his fault because he was pushed into the halves, but I'm not convinced yet.

This is a great signing. I can't wait to see the one two punch of Turps and Chiko playing off the momentum that Lodge, Haas and TPJ set once we get all feet back on deck. I think this will be key to our attack in 2020.

Macca should read the writing on the wall and finish his career in ESL. If not he will be a valuable reserve to have for the final year of his contract.

The warriors are now 0 from 3 trying to poach our players

I'll rephrase ... 0 from 3 from stealing players we were desperate to keep

Macca should play a similar role to fensom. ISC but will be there if needed, provides a good example at training and keeping the young ones honest.
