We brought Matty up to work with Milf and Niko. Then seibs cut one and moved the other.
Matty has also worked with pretty much every other half in the comp, including Ash Taylor. I’d take joeys footy brain over Mattys any day of the week.

Much improved edge defence - they've clearly spent a lot of time on this during the week. A really great coaching effort from whomever was responsible.

We've changed tactics to be much more aggressive in rushing up to shut down the play. Previously we backed off and slid, however this doesn't work against the better attacking teams who have multiple options coming with, and back across, the grain.

Same old concerns with the attack. While we don't have the cattle at 6/7, there seems to be a lack of any sort of structure or strategy with the ball in hand which goes beyond the players.

The questions are not who wears the 6/7, but rather (1) who is responsible for the attacking strategy? (2) what is the attacking strategy? and (3) what/how are they practising?

Keep kidding yourself. He is nowhere near Taumalolo.
He's going to be even better.

Why the hell do we need to send our halves down to see Matty or Joey Johns ?

We have Darren fucking Lockyer right here FFS !!
And Alfie.

Seriously how could the bunker not see this?

That's touching Opacic's arm, and Wright does not have control of the ball.

Milford will not be our full back long-term. With a balanced spine his best position is five-eight. Let's hope Seibold can move on Macca and Boyd and find correct replacements in the next 2 seasons long-term

Who goes to fullback though? It’s definitely not isaako. The problem I saw with Milford at 5/8th was he planted himself on the left side too much. Full back gives him more freedom and less defensive burden. If we can develop guys like SoS and dearden to be competent halves then Milford should stay at fullback.

exactly what he should have done ...

although i would have preferred Niko stay to provide impact of the bench ... but because he didn't want to do that the only option left to seibs was to allow him to leave (and he hasn't done all that much at the Warriors i might add)

Whether he should have done either remains to be seen. The results so far have been mixed.

Does locky even get down to training or is he too busy with media/club commitments.

Our forwards are our strength. Without a 6/7 we go that way and not use our backline like other teams who have strength in that area.
Problem is our opposition know that and play us accordingly. Won't always be like that when are halves are halves and Isaako learns to run like he did last night among other things. We are really a footy team with a powerful set of pigs and no backline at the minute.

We sent both down to Sydney to work with Matty. Siebs was happy for Niko to apply what he learned as a utility but he was adamant he was better than that and decided to move on. He did move Milf, but that was only when Dearden got injured and Boyd had deteriorated into nothing but a game loser at the back. I mean when a FB jumps to catch a kick that was going out on the full and then falls over the line with it, it really is time to move him on.

Joey last night talked to Lodge and Haas I also noticed Freddy had Staggs on a one-on-one after the game and was in his ear. I don't see them 'coaching' any of the Queensland boys and quite frankly they should all just shut the **** up and stay away from our players. They are given access under the grace of commentating on the game not to take advantage of that access and give players instructions that may undermine our own coaches' instructions.

As others have rightly said we should be using Locky, Alf and if they want a champuon half back of the modern era I'd rather they used JT's vast experience as his attitude of never giving up suits the Broncos ethos better than the drug cheat Johns.

Keep kidding yourself. He is nowhere near Taumalolo.

He's a completely different player. He's got the potential to be a better version of someone like Te'o with his offload and physique. Imagine having to deal with a 115-120kg monster with speed and an offload as a centre or half.

Haas is comparable to JT13, although I think Haas is superior in terms of his motor, meterage, aggression, etc. Haas is making similar numbers to JT13 in his prime as a 19 year old in his rookie season.

Once ( or if ) TPJ gets the dumb out of his game and gets a lot more consistency then he could quite easily become a real elite player. At the moment, he is still as inconsistent and ill disciplined as he was 2 years ago.

Haas, as long as he can adapt when people work him out ( and people will work out how to stop him ) should become better than Taumalolo.

I think thats kick return metres....Milf cant break those tackles or make the same post contact metres that Boyd could simply because of his size....so that stat kinda makes sense to me...
Milf is 90+kegs , he breaks heaps of tackles usually.

He's a different player type of player I think he was getting at.

Couldnt help myself. Watched it. My god that was terrible. Two very ordinary sides. That right side defence of ours for their try was embarrassing. Positive is we stuck at it and managed somehow to get a win.

Oh, and even though it went in our favour, surely the NRL have to go something about that obstruction rule. I was laughing my head off when i saw that one the Cows had disallowed. I'd be fuming if they took one off us for that when Macca could have made that tackle.
The only thing I will say about the obstruction rule that was missed in commentary was the line that the decoy ran forced Macca to end up behind the rest of the defensive line by about 5m

He wasn't able to slide off Cooper and stay with his inside and outside men. That in turn created a hole for Clifford to run through.

Had Cooper run on the inside shoulder Macca would've slid and the line remains intact.

I think the right call was made based on that

I tend to agree with Slater on that one, and I feel dirty just saying that. Cooper shouldn't have stopped in the line. As soon as he did he impeded McCullough's line of sight and path to the ball carrier. As a result McCullough had to deviate and over ran the play. It doesn't matter that McCullough should still have been able to make the tackle. If he'd been able to come at Clifford from the inside to begin with he may very well have made an effective tackle. Cooper denied him the opportunity.
Absolutely this. At first I thought they would give it but glad they didn't because that has been the standard all year. It's harsh but IMO black and white is better than guessing like what was happening previously. Just look at the effort Offa made to get out of the way when Turpin scored. The players are fully aware, let's just hope the media don't scream so loud they get another change.
After watching the slow mo replays Macca absolutely would have been in the line with the rest of the D if not for Cooper. He didn't move forward with the others because he couldn't. He should have sold it better which is where this will end up if they revert to previous versions of the rule.

After further reflection on last night's game, I would say we played like a team that is down on confidence, a team that was humbled by the most consistent team in the comp the week prior. I'm happy to take the two points.

What would be great to see would be continued improvement over the next 4 rounds in the lead up to the finals. Hopefully this week we will see the return of some players, and our strongest possible team named.

That gives us four weeks for the combinations to gel and prepare ourselves to make some noise come finals time.

I agree. It was a harsh call because the end result would have likely been the same regardless of the obstruction but this is actually one of the times the bunker should be applauded (and they rarely should be).

Fans have been screaming our for consistency and less of the interpretation rubbish. This was a wonderful example or consistency, top stuff!
