I think Fifita will stay loyal. He just looks like that sort of bloke. He knows something special is brewing at the Broncs and I read somewhere that he is close with Haas, Carrigan and Flegler....... And no, I do not have any sources.

He HAS to be our next priority (and Staggs). I wouldn't resign anyone else until he does. Not even Fledger. I hope he stays loyal the next 2 years and then we pay what he deserves when boyd and macca piss off.
Haas Lodge TPJ Fifita Carrigan could be our starting pack for a long time.
Really wish Boyd and Macca leave or retire at the end of the yr so we can retain some youngsters

I'd more like to know who thought it was a better idea to prioritise TPJ aver Fifita.

I have more of an issue with us prioritising Ofahengaue over any of them.. He was the first one signed out of the off-contract quartet..

It should've been Lodge --> Fifita --> TPJ --> Ofahengaue

There's a pretty strong argument that EVEN if Glenn & Gillett both disappeared over the off-season, Joe still wouldn't be in our best starting team moving forward.

8. Lodge
10. Haas
11. Fifita
12. Pangai Jr
13. Carrigan

This is quite clearly to me our best forward pack for the next 5 years, if we can pull off a miracle and keep them all together.

You never know what you are going to get with Joffa. He was playing really well before his Origin injury, and he was good last year, especially at lock. He seems a bit off it since he came back from his knee injury, but i suppose he is 24 in September, so his best years are still in front of him and his form hasnt been as erratic as TPJ, and he doesnt have the amount of dumb in his game that TPJ does. I agree though, Fifita should be tied up by now ahead of TPJ and Joffa.

If boyd, gillett or macca really loved the club as expressed, this is when they put their hand up for the sake of its future. Hodges, parker et al. could have gone around again but acknowledged the need to keep the squad together.

They better make that decision before teams can start talking to fifita too

Really though, what would it achieve as we would still need to pay them. Apart from Gillett, neither of the other two could retire on medical grounds, and are still under contract. Macca took up his option, and after next year i guess Boyd could not bother taking his, but we are still stuck with their salary even if we dont keep them here.

Well I've literally been saying it since the end of last year, and looks as though my biggest fear will prob be confirmed come Nov 1.
Some may not agree but I wouldn't be re-signing Oates @ 500k, or re-signing Glenn for anything over 300k purely due to the fact we cannot let Fifi walk.
He and Haas for mine are the pick of the bunch, and I'll be super, duper x10000 disappointed if I see him in a different jersey.
The other interesting one is Milf is off contract come end of 2020, meaning clubs can start talking $ come Nov 1 this year. I wouldn't be offering Milf anything over 500k for 2020+.
I have no doubt we can make the $ work to secure Fifi, through the use of Macca & Boyd's contracts (surely we don't re-sign them post 2020) therefore we can use their $ to keep Fifi here, and also possibly Milf's $.
I'm pretty sure Bird is off contract end of 2020 also..
Our salary cap is way out of whack.

maybe Fifitas management have asked for the club to allow Fifita to test his market worth post Nov 1st...??...makes sense.....once Broncos know what he is realistically after and what the market thinks it probably helps shape what Brisbane would offer say Milf end of next season...

Takes 2 to tango...i don't believe this type of request is anything out of the ordinary personally...does explain the delay also...

Just as an amendment to this comment, I'm aware that Joe has been going through some rough shit off the field over the last 12 months, there's a reasonable chance that's been affecting his game, perhaps he'll come out next season refreshed physically & mentally and tear it up. I hope so.

We all knew this speculation was coming from the media. Can't wait for the "looks likely", "strongly considering", etc articles non-stop until he inevitably re-signs with us. Then it's on to Staggs. Chances are it's nowhere near 700,000. The good thing is we have a lot of players off contract over the next year so we should be able to manage it.
I think we will lose one of flegler or Staggs though. Salary cap working again!
