NEWS Selection dilemma: Anthony Seibold facing crucial Broncos call

there is a big bloody difference ... Knights fans are blaming Bennett 6 years on and 2 coaches since Bennett left ... plenty of time to fix a squad.

Some Broncos fans are blaming Bennett the year immediately after he left with a brand new coach needing to get rid of big money long term deals to a player who is past it (Boyd) and a player who has never been more than mediocre (Macca)
2 players? Yet look what else he left us with , some amazing juniors. There is no way he can be blamed for how we're playing, it's a pathetic excuse.

Perhaps, but it’s one we will never have to use again. That honour will go to South Sydney.

Does anyone actually know if Bennett is responsible for signing some of the juniors we are seeing come through now?

I mean, he came back in 2015. You’d have to imagine some of these 19-22 year olds we are seeing debut were signed before 2015?

FTR, I don’t know, but I do recall players like Macca, Hunt, Taylor etc. were signed at 12 or 13.

@1910, @Big Pete?

Payne Haas, Matt Lodge, Jamayne Isaako, Herbie Farnworth, Cory Paix, Sean O'Sullivan, Keenan Palasia, Jake Turpin, Tom Dearden and Tevita Pangai were all Wayne.

Staggs and Flegler precede Wayne (both signed in 2014), I believe Fifita was with the club prior to Wayne as well.

The only player I'm not entirely sure on is Carrigan, I know he signed with the club in 2015, but I'm not entirely sure if that was his first contract with the club.

@peter09 can probably go into more detail on a few since the Broncos offer a lot of invites to their skills session, so a few could have had an affiliation before Wayne like Paix.

Has anyone won a Premiership off a Heavy Youth policy?

I always thought the accepted model for success was have old heads and players in their late 20s that had done everything in the game sprinkled with youth to learn off, Melbourne have done this, and we used to do this as well at least in WB first stint with us.

The Risks with what we are doing has been done with Penrith, it's all good filling your team with Top Tier youth Players but if they have no experienced good players to learn off they plateau and lack direction.

Having Good Experienced players with the right mindset is like having a 2nd Top Tier Coach on your team, only they are helping you when it matters in the game.

We have the same thing as Melbourne with old heads amongst the young.
The problem is our old heads are Darius Boyd, Macca and Gillett.

I think we atleast have to look at Bennett and his very poor squad management...
1 His failure to find a decent replacement for Hunt is huge/ Persisting with Niko and Milf at 7 and 6
2. Signing Jack Bird. Great player, but not who or what we need. Also taking a huge chunk of our cap, esp given his injuries.
3. Giving out long term contracts to aging and injury prone players, ie Boyd, Macca and Gillett.

He also did alot of good.

1. The forward pack that he essentially built.

My beef during that period was not using Benji more.

My only concern with Bennet was the Bird selection ahead of a current half or 5/8th with experience, but then a fit Bird might have filled at least one gap (albeit not really what we want) whilst Milford developed. He really hasn't been on the field long enough to know what he is capable of, and I don't think you can really blame anyone there (medical staff?).
If he ever gets on the field for us for more than 5 or 6 games, I'm confident it would prove bennett's presience there, but it is yet to, and i'm not if now it ever will happen.

My problem with WB was the salaries/ contract terms and the style of footy he had them playing.

He probably is responsible for 3/4 of the new guys coming through.

I think credit needs to go to Bennett for a few if the backs too - Staggs, Isaako,

I'm not going to lie, the Seibold/Bennett discussion is bloody boring.

Really, I couldn't give two ***** who deserves credit, if Bennett is a good ****, or Seibold is the devil.

Just play well. I want this club to be the benchmark and a coach alone won't change that. We need to be ruthless and relentless in the pursuit of being the best from the top down.

If White's attitude is business first, **** him off. This is a sports club and accountability for our success must start at the top. Supposedly Seibold couldn't drop Boyd because the board said no. Truth is, no one will know if this is bullshit or reality but if I was to believe it, it'd be a sad indictment of where our club is at, that we value politics over pursuing excellence on the field.

A successful sporting brand brings in the dollars. Soccer clubs don't get rich from community programs and increasing profit margins on ticket sales. You drive to be the best and the money follows, not the other way around.

Is it just me or does Seibold not use Decoy runners, we are bottom in the league for decoy plays which is probably why we find it Soo bloody hard to score sometimes.

Probably because we dont have current halves to facilitate this. Playing more basic footy in this case will get us up to the advantage line with less clunkiness and get our game speed up. Next year hopefully will be different.

The two decoys that would be used at present are TPJ and Fifi who also represent two of our biggest threats with the ball in hand... so that could have something to do with it.

I don't recall there being too much of an issue when Glenn was in the back row.

Them being a massive threat just makes them even better decoys. They really should mix it up a bit
