It's the final round of the regular season and it all starts off with the all too familiar finals dress rehearsal between South Sydney and Sydney. A couple of weeks ago, it appeared the Rabbitohs were set to limp into the finals. They were looking ragged bereft of ideas and getting exposed at the wrong end of the season. Souths used the Broncos game as a turning point, managed to get the result and put together one of their best efforts of the season against the Warriors. Now they find themselves against one of their biggest obstacles standing in the way of premiership #22, were the last two weeks merely the death rattle? Or can Souths open up the finals?

Unlike Canberra, I don't think Sydney will treat this match lightly. The selection of Cooper Cronk and Boyd Cordner suggests that they'll be looking to try out some plays heading into the finals and try to play a style they believe will get the job done in the course of a month.

Then on Sunday, we've got the battle for the final spot in the finals. It's been mentioned around the website, but if the Broncos lose against Canterbury, the possibility of both teams playing for a draw so they can both enter the finals opens up. It would be ludicrous to see both teams engineer a draw, but as long as the option is there it'll certainly add another perspective to the game.

For the sake of the finals, I believe Cronulla pose the bigger threat and would be the better dark horses. However, the Tigers would have to be the sentimental favourites going in. They came close last year to making it and in terms of a squad heading in the right direction, a Top 8 finish would be a fair recognition of their efforts this season.

It's always a strange round of football because you never know who is going to turn up. Some teams have their eyes on the final, others have it on Mad Monday and sometimes you get a Gold Coast 1992 where they put in their best effort just to send a legend out. I'm of course talking about The King and the Seagulls' 12-8 win over the defending premiers, the Penrith Panthers.

Just on your last line I think I remember at the 80th minute the King catching a bomb or chip and holding the ball to his chest, the final touch.

There's a clip on YouTube that shows it was just a regular hit-up, but it wouldn't surprise me if he cleaned up a kick at some point. The moment that seems to stand out most about that match was a win against the feed that eventually led to Lewis' match-winner.

Oh, you may be right. I just remembered him having the ball in his arms for the last second of the match. I probably coloured in the rest !!

Just hope these 2 teams and Parra and Manly both smash each other up good. Plenty of injuries and suspensions please.

Watching both teams halves running around for support play. Then seeing our halves, makes me wanna hurl sometimes.

Can't believe Ashley Klein is still employed.

The Roosters - standing deep, running in support, getting the ball moving out wide ... doing everything we don't, which is why we are nowhere near the level of the top 3 teams. Sigh. Seibold, what are you coaching this side?

Whenever players get smashed these days they always try to milk a penalty from it

How did the Roosters end up with the feed there?

Crusher there on Tetavano. Crickets...

Good to know cook doesn’t only Toy with us.

Seems the gameplan for the rabbits is to appeal for penalties constantly.

Seems to be working now. Maybe we should follow their example .
