2019 Ashes discussion

Harris isn't good enough, flat track bully.

I'd go:

1. Warner (one chance)
2. Burns
3. Labashagne
4. Smith
5. Wade (wk)
6. Pucovski
7. M.Marsh (ugh)
8. Cummins
9. Pattinson
10. Lyon
11. Hazlewood

A bit of a left field idea but I wouldn’t mind seeing Wade have a go at opening

Warner
Burns
Lab
Smith
Head
Khawaja/Pucovski/Marsh
Carey
Cummins
Pattinson
Lyon
Hazlewood

I'd go:
Warner
Burns/ Renshaw (Renshaw is still a quality prospect, just has to find his form again)
Patterson (Patterson is a top order bat)
Smith
Lab (five just strike me as his best position. Has played well in Eng against so should do better coming in in Aus when the shine is off the ball)
Head/ Pucovski (Pucovski if he starts well in the shield. He's a better prospect than Head who has been exposed a bit this tour)
Whiteman/ Carey (Whiteman is a better player injury free)
Bowlers

Love the team but I reckon 2 failures by lab will see him axed for a Mark Taylor rubber stamped nsw player. Meanwhile Davey can just keep on not troubling the scorer and stay in the team. The politics in team selection makes you sick.

1st test v Pakistan (unless there is Warner Ashes like form to start the Shield season).

1. Burns
2. Renshaw (or other opener who’s last name is not Warner, Harris or Bancroft)
3. Khawaja (form at home is way too good - although they’ll probably stick with Labuschagne could open with Khawaja)
4. Smith
5. Patterson
6. Any middle order bat who shows good form to start the summer.
7. Paine/Carey
8. Cummins
9. Starc (won’t not play at home)
10. Pattinson (if fit otherwise would be nice to see Neser debut at home)
11. Lyon

So you want to drop the second best performing batsman and one of the key bowlers who helped retain the Ashes?

No. Labushagne is in there. Just whether it is a 3, 5 or 6 will depend mostly on whether Khawaja is trusted by the selectors to regain his spot at home.

And, Hazelwood won't play as Langer is currently running a vice-captain rotation policy and Hazelwood is next to miss out after Marsh & now Head have had the rotation turns.

Warner playing for his career. Anyone ready to back him to make 100

Last time I'll say it I promise but we have Joe Burns sitting at right now. It's not even a QLD thing, I couldn't give a shit if the best 11 was 11 Victorians, he's the best option. The selectors and Langer look like muppets right now.

Both openers failed again?

*Pretends to be shocked*

Take Smith out and our batting order is ordinary.

We deserve to lose this test. With any luck it will be the catalyst for the selectors to pick a proper middle order this summer.

On that note, Burns is locked in for an opening spot back in Aus regardless of shield form in my books. If Warner and Harris are given this many chances after such meagre returns than surely Joe gets first crack given how he performed last summer.

I have no clue who opens with him but I would put a line through Bancroft and Harris. For now it would come down to Khawaja or Warner. I'd probably lean towards Usman just to see if he really wants a baggy green. His days at three are over and he's not batting any lower down the order so his test career is on the line.

I think the selectors had the correct middle order earlier this series but I'd love to see Patterson (test av 144) get another go and Pucovski is the future so wouldn't mind him coming in at 6 and then moving up the order if he can establish himself. Got absolutely no time for MMarsh or his brother.

Burns
Khawaja
Labuschagne
Smith
Head/Patterson
Wade/Pucovski
Paine (for now)
Cummins
Pattinson/Starc
Hazlewood
Lyon
