I feel sorry for Lexy,

Imagine having to take around a 50% pay cut whilst your still at least contributing amicably to the team with the likely added responsibility of having to take on the captaincy to guide us through this leadership void we find ourselves in whilst Darius is on 3 times the salary masquerading as a competent first grade NRL player.

Would be nothing more disheartening than being on a mediocre wage slugging your guts out doing the tough shit and then seeing your $700,000 captain take a fucking knee in a try saving scenario.

On a positive note this was a great resigning especially at the bargain basement price we got him on. Still is performing at a decent level and will no doubt have to take on more leadership responsibilities in 2020. Will be one of the best value players at our club in 2020 along with Croft, Turpin and Carrigan.

It's tough to cop, but there are significant advantages to being a Broncos Captain from a commercial perspective and they can continue for some time after he retires. I'd say he could have earned a little more elsewhere in the short term, but in the long term he'll retire as a one club player and Captain and that will likely prove pretty lucrative for him both now and after his footballing career is over.

If he can also add 'Premiership Winning Captain' to that resume, well even more so...

Maybe since they know Boyd won't be there next year Glenn could be backended for more in 2021

It really comes back to the fact that you cannot have superstars in every position in your team and you have to have a few like Glenn, ultra professional, leader, someone you know what you are going to get virtually every game they run out. Glenn sits comfortably in with a group of players like Chris Johns, Michael De Vere, Darren Smith, Kevin Campion, Tunza.

And you just named 5 of my favourite players for just that reason. Plathy was my all time favourite 'get in there and get it done' player, but these guys and Glenn are on the list too. I'd add Shaun Berrigan and David Staggs to that list too.

I don't think Glenn ever imagined he would be in the frame for captain, and neither did I in fact, yet here we are.

I imagined it years ago. In fact, I'm pretty sure he was being groomed for it, was it during Hook's reign? Then Bennett came back and Glenn got glossed over, but I've always thought Glenn would make a great captain, and now more than ever I can't see how Seibs could reasonably choose anyone else.

I say that not because I don't rate Glenn (I do) but I think a lot of those guys you named were a fairly high standard of player, maybe with the exception of Staggs, who was good, but probably not as good as Glenn, and in my eyes that puts him two levels below the others.

Fair enough, I disagree, I think Glenn has consistently shown as much heart as those listed, Staggs may be a level below, but I still rate Glenn with the rest of our 'engine' guys.

If you're talking purely about heart then fair enough, absolutely. It's a bit subjective but I think I could mostly accept that and agree.

I was more talking about actual talent or ability. Like I said, not that I don't think he has plenty of both, but most of those guys mentioned I felt were just slightly a level above.

Yeah, I was coming at it from the angle that those guys are all 'toilers', but I agree some of the others had a bit more flash than Alex. I still think that at the moment, he's the best guy to lead the team. And he deserves the 'C' way more than Darius does.
