Performance Reviews

1. Jamayne was super solid, despite his uncharacteristic off night with the boot. Consistently threatening in attack (that line break and offload to Milf) and no serious mistakes (one time out of place) which is what we needed in a game like last night. We all know he can put on a show, but he seems to be bringing 80min consistency to his game. 7/10
2. Oatesy didn't get too many attacking chances again this week, but he was solid under the high ball and didn't shy away from the tough carries. Shame about the ribs/sternum because this performance was much better than last weeks 7/10
3. Kotoni just had the best game he's played. Two defensive lapses but apart from that everything was proper elite. It's really nice that he can shift to 6 as well. He is a deceptive runner and must have some crazy low key strength going on because he can just get through holes that aren't there. 9.9/10
4. Darius just looks so much better without the captaincy. I think it must have really burdened him. Best defender in our backline, nothing flashy in attack but no mistakes. Hopefully, he can find his rhythm in attack over the next few weeks because if we can keep this momentum and also unlock the left side of the field, we are proper contenders 7.5/10
5. Arthars didn't get too many attacking opportunities this week but every time he gets the ball he just looks dangerous. He held his own relatively well in defence, despite coming in off his wing too many times. Didn't like that they scored a try in the same way as their first disallowed try, learn from your mistakes brah! 6/10
6. Milford stepped up when we needed him too. As a lot of people have said, we lacked a bit of purposeful direction when Crofty went off, but I thought he still held his own - and scored a try that probably only 2015 Milf could score. His running game is coming back, but when he is the primary playmaker he just reverts to bombs which is a bit obvious. 8/10
7. Croft looked good in his limited minutes. It was shit when he went off thought we would lose the game from there. Speedy recovery bro! 5/10
8. Flegs Brah. The big marn is just so deceptive, and he seems to have cut some of the silly stuff out of his game. Strong D, tricky late footwork, a bloody handful. Another player who played his best game in the NRL last night. When he came back on I was like "**** yeah", which is never something I've said when Flegler comes on... hopefully the trend continues 9.5/10
9. Turpo makes the right decisions. I think he is one of the main reasons why this team is looking revitalised and rejuvenated. A lot of people have said he fades in and out at club level, but in the NRL he just looks bloody good. Maybe one of those players who just steps up. Every game he has started at hooker, he has looked like a top 5 NRL hooker. 8/10
10. Haas had a relatively quiet game for Haas. no mistakes. lots of meters. probably a really really good game for a normal human. but a quiet game for Haas. 8/10
11. Fifita looked like he wanted to kill something in the first 20 minutes. God, he looks hard to tackle. Throughout the game, to South's credit, they handled him pretty well. But he didn't let it get him down. Strong defence and a lot of effort. He also looks really happy, which is great. 7.5/10
12. I mentioned it in an earlier comment but Hoppa just looks NRL ready. Hasn't made any rookie errors. Hits pretty hard and is strong in attack. It wasn't a TPJ performance, but apart from a couple of defensive lapses, it was pretty awesome. 7.5/10
13. Captain Carrigan... the guy is just reliable. At the end of the game, when we are trying to hold on to the pill. Give the ball to Carrigan. Need 20 tough runs to get the boys on the front foot. Give the ball to Carrigan. Need some dude to just hold down the fort and make no errors defensively. Carrigan. Need a mate to take your wife out while your out of town... maybe not Carrigan 9/10

The Bench Warmers
Macca had a mixed game. 4/10. He was off the pace in the first half and his dropped ball was the first mistake we made, which let them back into the game. It's weird when Macca comes on we go from scoring points to letting in points. This game is a testament to that. 2-18 with Macca, 20-0 without Macca..... CYA
Bullemore made a couple of runs but didn't really do much else 4/10
Didn't mind Kennedy. I didn't love his performance but there was nothing especially wrong with it. I was pretty happy with those penalties he gave away - thought it was deliberately slowing the play at the right time. 6/10
Herbie deserves the start next week. Like Arthars, he is just another guy that looks dangerous and smart. Two challenging high balls, and he handled both on them brilliantly. 7/10

top notch review

Isakko's pooped pass from the floor to send MILF on the way to tryline

Staggs though was in another class last night.
Quite a few highlights indeed;
Arthars has a mean flick on him. Hits a support runner everytime. Hoppa's tap on to Staggs was orgasmic in itself.

I'd have Herbie into the starting team and Staggs at 5/8 next week. Bring Dearden on to the bench and Macca in the extended reserves (his knock on late in the 1st half swung momentum towards the Bunnies - fortunately didnt cost us the win)

Great to see that Boydy is defending like there is no 2mrw.

So happy with the boys last night. They showed a hell of a lot more resilience. It may be two weeks in but the difference is observable when comparing opening rounds of last year and this. If we lost Croft like we did last night last year the boys would have gone tits up.

I think our forwards are actually sharing the load well and working together. Thats a huge difference from last year alone. Its not just individual performance that stood out.

3. Carrigan
2.Love Flegs aggressive nature.
1. Milf

Carrigan - 19 runs, 201 metres, 36 tackles
Haas - 18 runs, 188 metres, 29 tackles
Flegler - 17 runs, 183 metres, 18 tackles
Fifita - 15 runs, 154 metres, 26 tackles

Best forward pack in the comp, bar none.
And we are still missing Glenn (not great but consistent) lodge ofehangue and tpj

He'll push McC out of the side I reckon. Seibold showed signs tonight that he is done with him.
Agreed, we don’t have space for him both Glenn and ofehangue are back next week we can’t have McCullough on the bench a utility back and still have room for rep forwards

i was very frustrated with Kennedy's lack of IQ on our own line giving away those penalties back to back. Almost throw the tv out the window!
You’d think with ofehangue and Glenn coming back him and McCullough will make way

Yep I noticed that at the time too. He’s not a fullbacks big toe. Bennett is burying himself with Fatrell and Jet. Their attitude will infect that team
"But it's not all about football; it's building people" - W.Bennett (most likely).

I have no issue with WB playing 'Dad' with players off field but if they don't perform, they need tough love not coddling. WB - great humanitrition of the game; not so great as a modern NRL coach.

Any chance that Bennett will actually start playing players in their best position sometime before he retires?

I think we get more from Payne if we don't play him 80. We dont need to play him that long at full strength
Yeah with 8 forwards they would each average 50 minutes... obviously they wouldn’t each play 50 but that would be changing fresh, talented and energetic forwards frequently

Injury update: Brodie Croft

Broncos’ halfback Brodie Croft has had scans this afternoon on a shoulder injury sustained in last night’s 22-18 win over the Rabbitohs in Brisbane.

As expected, Croft has sustained an acromio-clavicular (AC) joint injury.

In good news, no other issues were found in the scans.

Medical staff will re-assess him after the weekend once the injury settles down.

“In good news there was no other damage to Brodie’s shoulder,” said Broncos’ Head of Performance Paul Devlin.

“He will be reassessed on Monday and it is hoped he will return to the field of play shortly.”

Corey Oates has a rib injury and will be assessed next week.

Bennettball is what killed them last night.

Bennett has never coached to go side to side so much, that's what killed Souths they just shuffled it from sideline to sideline and too many passes went behind guys or into touch. It was under eights football.

Broncos just slid off and picked them off.

Yep, he'll be rested for the Titans to give Dearden a run in first grade then we'll see him back against the Panthers to mark up against Cleary

A few times last night the bunnies looked totally fucking clueless in attack. A lot like we were a couple seasons ago. I really think the old fellas lost it. In one season he’s taken one of the most intimidating packs and exciting sides and turned them into What we saw last night... I know it’s round 2 but they were falling at the back end of last season. We watched the broncos make the same slide after 2015.

their pack is mostly trash though. A lot of their players are also very inconsistent. Lateral, Roberts, Walker, even Reynolds and Cook (to a much lesser extent).

We had the second best win rate from 2016-18 fwiw
