Broncos powerbrokers are goading Head Coach Anthony Seibold into enlisting help, someone who knows the first thing about coaching. Names touted include deposed Warriors coach Stephen Kearney and decorated folk hero Kevin Walters. Sentimental favourite Walters has been waving his hand like a drowning Frenchman, and drooling at the prospect of jamming his toe through the door again, but would first need to jettison his Fox Sports gig to enter the Covid bubble.

Seibold, smoke billowing from both ears, avoided addressing the looming Walters threat, but didn't dismiss Kearney entirely:

“I know Stephen is back in town (Brisbane). He has worked for the club previously and he’s got a lot of experience. He did a tremendous job when he was here last time. He’s be a person I’d reach out for if there is a position available. Peter Gentle and Kurt Richards are really good assistant coaches. Peter Ryan does our defence. Corey (Parker) was doing a great job with our middle before he became unavailable and couldn’t come into our bubble because of his Fox Sports commitments.”

Walters to Seibold: please accept this gift as a gesture of goodwill from me and my mate Gorden Tallis.

Karl Morris says he has no intention of flicking Seibold unless I am instructed otherwise by the company (News Corp, which also publishes The Courier-Mail) which owns 69 per cent of the Broncos." And adds:

“It’s important we don’t panic. The number one thing the board can do is support him but he’s got to realize that what he’s doing right now isn’t working. Five in a row is terrible. We can give him (Seibold) some advice and try to surround him with good people. Anthony needs to reach out to some people he trusts. I’ve told him he’s missing something and he needs to fill a spot that’s not being filled at the moment. Everyone’s feeling the pressure. That’s natural. We’ve spoken about it and I’m sure they’re looking at that. They’ve got to start enjoying it again but that can only come from winning.”

There can be only one.

Morris also advised Seibold “lighten up and have more fun” with his young squad. Seibold did just that, popping out for dinner and a beer after the massive stinking filthy shameful loss against the lowly Titans:

“Obviously when you’re losing it’s not much fun around the place. That’s human nature when things aren’t going great. Should we go out and have a beer together? It’s been difficult with the COVID restrictions. We’ve got a young group and footy has always been fun for them. We’re going through a dry spot but we’ll hopefully work our way out of it and enjoy some better times.”

Feels more like a wet spot, and we're having to lie in it.

Is this a meme?

Is this not extremely alarming to anyone else? Our chairman isn't even capable of making the tough call even if he wanted to, he'd have to get permission from News Corp first (Who would reject him, because sacking a coach is bad for business)

Looks to me like a deliberate dig at Morris for reaching for an invalid excuse.
