Sorry but this sort of statement bugs me !
So many players that have quick feet and pace with talent, will always RIP it up in their first year. So many players have done this for only to be targeted the following year's, it's because they are an unknown.
Watch teams swarm the million dollar Fifita next year, teams will have a plan for him I'm sure.
Ahhh pagey, my friend.
Milford played 2 years in canberra, won rookie of the year in 2013 and was excellent for us again 2014.
Then in 2015 he leads the broncos to the GF.

So clearly your statement is better then the one which bugged you because this is clearly a situation of a quck player being only good in one year because no one had a game plan for him yet. /end sarcasm.

Also relied on being young, fit and hungry. Now he’s old, fat and hungry.

He was a highlight reel in 2013 , 2014 was ok and 15 he definitely had help getting to the GF. Maybe a year is exaggerating but I stand by my comment

he played well enough through his early bronco years you guys put him on 1m salary cap... which to be fair and fitting with this thread is probably like 1.5m monopoly money.

I think he won rookie of the year and poty in 14? Or was it just poty for 20’s?

2013 to try and keep him at the club.

The advantage of playing at Canberra is that you're under no where near the amount of scrutiny of clubs like Brisbane. So Milford was allowed to have his quiet games without coming under any criticism because fans would just see his highlights when either the game was over or against dud teams.

Same deal with Taylor in 2016.

The first I ever knew of the bloke was because of SuperCoach, he went big in his first two games so was an easy down trade and then went enormous on his third game.

loved the bloke ever since

I felt Canberra botched his development rushing him into first grade. They were desperate after the Dugan & Ferguson incident and Milford was by far their brightest prospect. Instead of taking a softly softly approach, they threw him into the #14 with no clear plan. He ended up at fullback where he had barely played and while his natural talent shone through he was far from a natural in that position.

He came up as a 7, then as soon as he hit the NYC he was moved around from centre, fullback, five-eighth without really getting a chance to master a position.

The fact he was able to play as well as he did was a credit to him and the coaching staff of the Broncos. I think everyone set way too high an expectations and he never quite became the MVP of the competition but he was still playing like a marquee half up until this year where every player at the club struggled in one form or another.

His first 2 scores in SC were 20 & 12.

I do remember he went on a massive run at the end of the season though, that was fun.

Brisbane Broncos have been looking for short term solutions to long term problems for a long time. Milford never was and never will be an elite player. Plenty of people have the "X" factor but very few are clutch players', Cameron Smith, Johnathan Thurston, Darren Lockyer. When the tide goes out, you get to see who isn't wearing pants. Milford isn't just pea hearted..

It is sad though because he was absolutely elite in 2015 and early 2016, he was the best player on ground in the GF by far. Whatever happened?

As a football fan, for sure. Recruited under Griffin, played for Bennett, and regressed with Seibold. You can't turn players into people they are not. Benji Marshall noted it. We have all seen it. I wonder what Cyril Connell would make of our recruitment and retention department. Nobody would be saying a word if he was playing for 450k

we tried to turn him into a game manager by necessity.

It was a long time ago tbf. I just know he was an epic downgrade option to free up some cash and ended up making bank.

I remember having regular heated debates with a mate and regular poster on here about Milford. He would often contend that Milf was a better 5/8 than Munster, Walker and Keary. My mate was relieved when Hunt left as he believed Milf was being held back by Hunt and that Nikorima would be a great partner for him based on a meaningless win streak when Niko played in the 7.

Of course it never came to fruition and then suddenly Milf was #1 for kick metres and the best kicking half in the comp (another contention he made). Since Bennett left it's become even clearer that Milf won't reach anywhere near the heights we thought he would, or even come close at FB.

It's taken a few years but now that mate is firmly in the "Milf out" camp and wants to see the back of him. I won't embarrass him with a call out but feel free to shoot me an apology when you read this later today mate!

Just to bring the post back on topic, these days he claims TPJ is the best attacking forward in the competition and should be one of the first picked for State of Origin... funny stuff.
