Where to From Here? Let's Plan for 2021

Man, I wish some of you would pay attention. I’ve been saying for over two years now that Boyd should have retired or been dropped. It’s not a touchy subject. I was just over people blaming him for everything when others were at fault and the unnecessary insults in every single thread. There was a bias surrounding him, so strong that people would forget the other 12 players on the field. I like what Boyd does off the field, but on the field he should have been gone years ago.

I think BP has explained the Ponga situation far better than I could.

Agreed totally.......BP filled in the missing pieces for me.
I get your frustration at some of the criticism Boyd receives/received. I feel similar about some of the comments that get made towards Milford.

He's just absolutely at the wrong club to be playing first grade unfortunately.
He should definitely be a target. I don't think Herbie is ready to play centre yet. Whare could absolutely do a job for 1-2 years at left centre.

So this is where we are at. Note the “Player Options

Looks like they’ve updated the coach on that list and that’s it. Perese was sacked before the season even started, Herbie re signed long term a couple months back and didn’t the club farewell 3 or 4 players at the awards breakfast?

I though Kevvie was only on a 2 year deal, is it now 3 years?

the list posted by @Gaz is from Fox Sports and they fucked it up.

the one from Zero Tackle is more accurate

Zero tackle currently just has a ? mark for 2021 and 2022. Oh well suppose it is 2 years. (Should have been 3 though)

What brand of footy does everyone think we'll be playing next year? i think the last 2 years has proven an overly structured game plan where we work to set part's of the field on certain tackles just isn't right for this group.

Furthermore i don't think we have the strike to play an expansive game where we attack from any point of the field we please. Milf is no longer that explosive player and we've lost fifita for good and staggs for a big chunk of the season, our ability to attack from within our own half is really poor.

Given our likely team dynamics I'd say our most sucessfull game plan will be based on been a defensive powerhouse and almost frusterating teams out of games. I think sublime discipline and defence and work on breaking opposition teams down by having the ability to not make errors, give penalties and miss tackles.

I know it sounds very simple and like basic rugby league principles but we've gotta get it right. I can't see us been a team who can score 3 tries in the last 15 minutes to win a game.

Honestly, as long as we win, I’m not fussed.

Once we get back to winning and smiling, confidence will grow and then we will start to look better in every facet.

So my answer: whatever it takes / works to get some early wins on the board.

Oh, and a little luck (in games, with injuries and overall) wouldn’t go astray either.

I think its really hard to judge this group at this stage. We've seen a lot of chicken shit bullshit this last 24 months, so assessing our strengths and weaknesses seems a little futile.

I think once we get rid of the silly errors - dropped balls in our 50 & stupid missed tackles - we will have a better idea.

At our core - i see effort players - haas, carrigan, turps & dearden all seem like, to use a terrible league analogy, 110% guys ...

Its just that our 110 is every other teams 70 right now.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Just focus the entire year on solid defence to build up that framework for when we do have attacking strike back in the side. Any flukey brilliance we pull off in attack should be treated as a bonus. If we can somehow keep our differential to something above -100, I'll take that as a victory, especially compared to this year.

Jack Hethrington apparently going (or gone) to the Dogs, so there's one of my preferred enforcers off the watch list...

Sua has to be the guy, but not sure if it's doable next season. Regardless, put him down as a long term target for all that lovely 2021 off season cash we will have...

Dogs look like they have some decent building blocks for future success coming in.

Herbie has been Solid at Centre nearly every game he has done, his biggest problem is he usually has 2 flogs next to him and needs to defend like he is 3 people.
