Man of the hour, Payne Haas fronts the Sunday Mail:

“I am extremely embarrassed by what’s happened. I know I have let down myself, my family, my teammates and the Broncos and their fans. My actions are mine to own. I take full responsibility for what’s happened, regardless of me being under the influence of alcohol on the night. All I can do is apologise for my actions. It was out of character and I will be working hard on and off the field to repair people’s opinions of me. I agree what I said to the police was wrong. It is not a proper representation of who I am, nor how I want the world to see me."

“It is my wrongdoing. I stuffed up. I need to earn the respect back through more than just these words but through my actions moving forward. I have little brothers and sisters who need me to set a better example. I was not in a good head space at all in that moment (when police approached him). I had been drinking. I allowed myself to drink too much which affected my actions."

“It’s been tough losing Chace. I haven’t spoken much about it. We were really tight. He died so suddenly and to be honest I haven’t handled this whole tragedy well. Because of the COVID restrictions, I had limited time to process Chace’s death with my family. It’s been the hardest thing I ever have faced."

“So while I am really embarrassed and disappointed at the way I treated the police, I hope people can see there were other factors behind what happened. Thankfully I’ve had my family and my partner Leilani supporting me and helping me cope during this time. Without them I am not sure I would have gotten through it.”

“This is a year where I want to focus on being the best person I can be, not just a football player. I can’t wait to be a dad and I certainly want to be the best role model I can be. I am also a bit nervous at being a parent as it comes with big responsibilities. I want to be a good partner to Leilani and a great dad to my newborn baby."

“I honestly believe what happened was out of character. I can’t wait to play alongside my Broncos teammates this season, but I need to win back the trust and respect of rugby league fans and sponsors of the club. I know it is a privilege to play in the NRL, so I need to start acting like it and appreciate it more.”

That's as sincere as an apology gets. This entire thing is a fucking circus now, simply because it's a Broncos player.

All the other bullshit this off season by other players gets sweeped by the next morning.

Good on him but now he needs to back it up with his actions. What he did was bad but as he said, he had some seriously tragic things happen in his life last year, would benefit from seeking professional help.

When we were his age most of us (also) thought we were 10ft tall and bullet proof - until we learnt different.
Regardless of his size and celebrity clearly he is yet to.
He needs to understand he is on the coppers menace list and rightly so.
Until he learns life’s lessons and pulls his head in he deserves everything he gets.

I actually believe Haas is a decent bloke. I buy his apology and unlike Staggs I think the club should stick by him one last time.
He still deserves whatever he gets as far as NRL are concerned but I’m still on the Payne train.

What he did was wrong, but If there is a positive we could possibly develop from this, would be to rebuild the old seige mentality. Broncos vs the world.

Kevie has started it by not putting up with the journo shit at the boxing.

This is the second straight year where one of our best forwards will be starting the season in the grandstands over disciplinary bullshit

personally i don't give a **** about his apology. any idiot can pay lip service.

actions speak louder than words payne. we'll see how contrite you are in the coming months when it's no longer front page material.

Third actually. Haas involved in all three cases. Makes you wonder about Bali.

Man, i dunno anymore.

On one hand, i hope his apology is sincere, hope he has learned from it, and hope he comes good.
On the other, this is a copy paste standard scripted apology any player gives after finding themselves knee deep in it.

I really hope Kevvie can turn this club around.

Actions will speak louder than words. This is the second season in a row he is going to miss the start of the season due to an off field conduct suspension?

Yeah it's all PR bullshit at the moment, it all comes down to walking the walk .

Dw everyone, vlandys has vowed to get tough on player behaviour...... not after the titans, raiders, tigers, manly, Panthers or dragons players runs in/issues, but now..... makes perfect sense and seems completly fair. Im sure THIS TIME will be different though, and once he makes an example of a Broncos player again he will then go on to be fair and just and give punishment equally to all the other clubs too...

Watermelon based or maybe Aperol with something that froths like egg white or pineapple juice. Or pink grapefruit, Cherry Heering, Chambord, endless possibilities.
