The measures have got to promote open and entertaining games, not to give bad teams a chance,” V’landys said.with-expansion-despite-great-divide-2021

The clubs are going to have to get their rosters right to compete. A percentage of it might be due to the new rules, but I don’t think that’s the whole of it. It’s not that there are new rules and all of a sudden you can’t tackle. “You don’t introduce measures that are going to promote mediocrity. “It’s up to the clubs to look at their rosters and their systems. You can use that as a model. They all have the same money, so they have to look at how they spend their money. Why is Penrith so successful? Because they look after participation. “They get rewarded for being proactive. I take my hat off to Penrith because they are a club that everyone should look at. Look at how much they spend on junior development, how much they spend on junior participation. Look at the initiative to go into country areas and start up their academies. “Rather than talking about lopsided games, let’s look at the teams that are models to be looked at for success. “I’ll stress that we will never introduce measures to hide mediocrity.”
V’landys put the onus back on struggling clubs to improve their performances. “When you look at the successful clubs, the common element is not just the roster; it’s the program they have to bring players through,” he said.

A noble sentiment, but let's see if they stick solid with this philosophy when crowd and TV audiences shrink after 1/2 of the clubs spend years getting toweled up by the other half.

There's a reason previous administrations would always crow about how even the competition was.

Why does he get so much love though? We're going to have some awesome burnout at the end of this season to really drive home the mediocrity too.

Just wait til later in the year when the bottom stop trying. You’ll have teams putting up record scores

Let’s destroy one of the only clubs turning a profit because they’re struggling to adapt to The Lord’s new rules. It couldn’t possibly be that the new rules are rubbish, could it

Who even asked for six agains, no scrums and centre of the field play the balls, anyway? I’d like to yeet them into the sun

I think it’s a dumb and weird response to the whole ‘ball is actually only in play for 60mins in an 80 min game’ complaint that surfaced in recent years.

Here’s a simple solution: every time the ball goes out or play is stopped for a scrum or penalty, you stop the clock. Start it again when the ball is back in play ie scrum is fed, tap after the penalty, kick off after tries. I don’t even care if penalties and conversions are left off the clock.

Is Abdo the biggest cuck the NRL has seen? As if you'd even accept a CEO position when you have an attention whore chairman basically acting as a defacto CEO and the CEO is really just a glorified administrative assistant.

The sooner Vlandys ***** off the better. How in the **** did this guy get in, in the first place? The game was doing just fine and he comes along, signs an awful very long term TV deal, then makes a huge amount of rule changes on a whim.

Fucking **** him off.

I'm at a bit of a loss to understand his sentiment when he says he will not promote mediocrity. Isn't that exactly what the salary cap does? It was designed to bring us all down to the lowest common denominator.

With the amount of support and money we have we should still be seen as an elite club, instead the cap has brought us down to the mediocre level of the Tigers and the like.

If that is not actively promoting mediocrity I don't know what is. So the clown is talking through his arse.

His agenda is to make the Sydney teams strong at the expense of the Queensland teams. After superleague and then our run of 9 origins in a row which almost wiped out the TV fanbase in NSW the guys in Sydney (Head honcho being Gould) have made it their quest to bring them back to the top of the tree no matter what.

This whole 6 again shit is to enable refs to give the TV companies what they want - successful Sydney teams as they are the biggest audience. Melbourne are included as they need Victorian viewers to bolster the TV figures.

Our club and the game is dying a death of a thousand cuts under this shyster. The only difference being is Vlandy's introduced rules on the fly will hasten that end.

The sad ***** are cutting off their nose to spite their face and it's shiting me to tears. The level of naked aggression and bias shown towards us is obvious to blind Freddy as the Broncos have been identified as the heart and soul of Queensland League.

I agree with his sentiment, it's just that, while we were on top it wasn't fair, we had too many advantages and needed to be crippled in order for shit teams to compete. Now that Sydney darling teams and those important to the NRL strategically (Titans & Storm) are on top, their success needs to be rewarded and other teams just need to Git Gud.

It's also blatantly obvious that we are being artificially held down in order to vindicate the upcoming New Brisbane. I actually don't think the rule changes have done it, moreso that the rule changes have allowed ruthless and arbitrary control of the rucks, of momentum, by the refs are we are being deliberately stifled. While other teams are carried via selective "10 metre" distances and other protections to give them time and space. We are also dogged routinely by the judiciary, our players unfairly scrutinised while the media sets the rhetoric, like TPJ being an out-of-control grub, while JWH is lauded as an "enforcer" who is allowed to get away cheap shots and dog acts that would land most of us up with assault charges.

AND THEN our rivals are actively enabled by the NRL to poach our best players by unprecedented salary cap manipulation.

At this point I don't think the NRL are concerned about dwindling Brisbane fans or TV viewership. In fact they are counting on it, it's what they are actively working towards, to have as many people as possible ready to jump on Brisbane II when it is inevitably introduced.

I don't see things getting any better for at least a couple of years after B2 has been introduced and the artificial fanfare has cooled down.

I don't believe that Smokin Joe was referring to this specifically, but yeah, shit's going to get a lot worse before we can hope to be allowed to compete on even terms again.

I don't really have a problem with anything Vlandys has said there. Broncos problems are entirely the doing of the Broncos board and management over the past 6+ years. Likewise with the Bulldogs, who got their cap in a bad place under Hasler and haven't recovered.

Old days Broncos would fire up at the pro-Sydney behaviour and use the backs to the wall siege to their benefit.

Fire up Brisbane

Not buying any of this "NRL has fucked us over" dribble. We, and all the other shit clubs have done that to ourselves. In our case, the heart and soul of the club has been ripped out by White and Seibold. We need to get our house in order and it starts with the front office. Hopefully this Dave D is as good as he is made out to be. We need to be smarter on and off the field.
