geez you know, it's not that I don't want Bennett back, but **** we've had a few goes at life after bennett and failed miserably both times... does it mean when wayne eventually does expire that we're forever fucked as a club?

Is it a valid answer to say I don't care about after? The idea is Bennett helps Walters for a year or two and hopefully by then Walters is good enough that he doesn't need help. Bennett is obviously old and can't have too much longer before he wants to enjoy retirement, so it would only be a short term appointment at most.

Maybe if we let Wayne Bennett finish his second tenure, we'd be sitting pretty with Jason Demitriou as our coach soon enough.

I fear we'll regret losing Jason.

Would the preceding 7 signings not qualify as a surprise lol

Yes.

So we should be pushing harder to get Morris out. He does nothing that literally any other somewhat qualified person couldn’t do. This club could literally run itself better if they named Buck as whatever it is Morris is. He’s not needed and right now Bennett is needed to improve this club
"Buck, should we re-sign Milford on $1M a year with 3 player options?"
"NEIGH"

Yes, we've got to put our big boy pants on and deal with it.

At this point I wouldn’t be offering any of the guys off contract a pay rise. They can sign 1 year deals on the same money or they can go. Re-signings aren’t going to get us out of this.

Coates, Dearden, and Staggs can all go. The first 2 due to their inexperience and the last due to his asking price.

Outs:
Milford
Copley
Teo
Glenn
Coates
Stagg
Dearden

Shop around:
Flegler
Isaako
Oates
Lodge
Croft

Target:
Reynolds
Drinkwater
Capewell
Gagai
Turner
Benji
Opacic

Preferred line up:
1. Drinkwater
2. Oates
3. Gagai)
4. Opacic
5. Farnworth
6. Turner/young half with running game
7. Reynolds
8. TPJ
9. Turpin
10. Haas
11. Capewell
12. Riki
13. Asiata

14. Levi/Benji
15. Carrigan
16. Bullimor
17. Piakura

Its not panic satations yet. Its easily fixed with some astute buys. I dont see us having the money to get Capewell unless Flegler or such is released.

Positional issues:
Herbie needs to move to FB.
Staggs retained at centre.
Go to market for a solid cheap centre on the other side.
Sign ARey and give him captaincy.
Levi and Turps can work as our hookers.
Develop Niu and Isaako further. Isaako becomes a backup winger, Niu needs to learn in ISC before he is NRL centre ready.

Budget Issues:
Move Flegler on. (450-600K)
Release Milford and Glenn. (1.3m)

Our defence starts with the backs. Issako isnt an organising fullback with good defence. Coates has never been a good defender and his hands havent been great so far. Mead and Farnworth arent centers, they have no positional sense at all. Despite him coming in off his wing too much, Oates it the best defender we had last night. There is the start of the problem Kevvie has to fix up. We also need to get players playing in their proper positions.

I'm still of the opinion we have the forwards, it just needs tweaking with those guys. We should abandon attempting to sign Staggs, we can get serviceable centers and wingers, we cant afford to not have a quality hooker and halves, ours are all anonymous. Why we havent gone all out for Reynolds and Brandon Smith ( yes he has his faults, but he is streets ahead of our hookers and would probably improve no end with more footy at 9 ) or Daryll Clark is beyond me.

There are options out there off contract. Capewell is obivious to get a back row spot. Center is bit trickier. I dont see us signing Gagai because of cost, Parra are already trying to tie up Tommy to a longer contract and they are two obvious signings i dont think we can get. Hymel Hunt would be a decent option, but i'd still be signing Hoeter.

Kevvie just needs to make sure we get 2 new centers, a half, a nine and one forward.

I don't see enough change happening between now and next season for any meaningful change in the results.
Short of an entirely new roster, we could very well be looking at a trifecta of spoons.

You didn’t address fullback

You didn’t address fullback

Probably should have said i dont think our budget can afford a fullback. Issako is ok, i think we could get away with him for another 12 months if we cant move to improve our cap position, but i do think he wouldnt be as much of an issue if we had a better 7 and 9. As much as i said pick players in their proper positions, i still think Herbie would be our best fullback option, but i would like to see how Niu goes after a year at fullback in ISC.

Isaako wouldn't be as much of an issue with a gun half and hooker, but at the same time, I don't think Dearden and Croft would be as much of an issue with a gun fullback (someone who can give them more options in attack).

Deadset, the miserable ***** responsible for sinking this once proud club (White, Morris and Nolan) should be shamed right out of this city. Seiplod has already fucked off and good thing too.
