OFFICIAL Tom Dearden lost to Cowboys

The Cowboys have offered Tommy Dearden a paltry three-year deal worth a mere $1 million sealed with a dubious promise to be mentored by some guy named Jonathon Thurston. According to Dobbo, that works out to be cool $1 million dollars a year, maybe more if you count it in potatoes, but you might want to double check his maths.

Thurston's single premiership pales beside Dearden's current brains trust of Langer & Walters who've each won more premierships than Dobbo can count.

Greedy Cowboys football-operations baron Michael Luck said:

“Now that we’ve got Chad, we haven’t ruled out Tom at all. We would still love to have him here and we believe they could work well together as a halves pairing. He is still coming through and learning the ropes and we think Tom can do a wonderful apprenticeship riding shotgun with Chad and then potentially take over from him and be a long-term playmaker at our club."

“It would be great news if Tom accepts our offer. Tom has shown some things we like, so we would love for him to be here. Tom grew up in Mackay, he was part of our junior academy five or six years ago and then he went to Palm Beach Currumbin (on the Gold Coast) to finish school."

“He has done a great job coming through the ranks during a trying period for the Broncos as a club. I know it’s a big decision from Tom so we will give him time and space. We know he is a wonderfully loyal kid, he has come through the system at the Broncos and if he leaves it’s a big decision for him, so we’re not putting any deadlines on him.”

Let's hear it for Townsville!

Meanwhile local legend Kevin Walters is having none of it:

“Tom is part of our system so at this stage we are not looking outside the circle. We don’t anticipate losing Tom. He has been a good player for us in our systems and he’s still learning the game but we see little bits of improvement in Tom each week and we expect that again tomorrow night from him… no problems there with Tommy."

"We have been through everything with Tommy, he has a nice clear picture in his head about his job in the side and we are confident he can do that job for us (on Friday night) and moving forward as well.”

“If you wear a seven jumper these days you are linked to the Broncos, so that part of it… we are a big club, we are a strong club. It’s great to know other players want to come and play at the Broncos, that’s what it is all about. For us, we have our structures around what we will be doing and won’t be going outside those structures.”

“Adam Reynolds is a good player and there is some interest in him, but we need to tie up Kotoni Staggs first and if and when we do that, we will look at our other scrumbase options."

Mitchell Moses, another rumoured player of interest said:

“I‘d love to stay at the Eels, that’s my main thing, I’ve made that clear to them but that’s up them now if they want to keep me or if my management will sort it all out. When a contract is ready to go my management will let me know.”

“The ultimate goal is to get a premiership. But everyone is different Everyone is in a different situation and different ages, all those types of things. The premiership pact gets tossed around every now and then but nothing in depth. The way footy is at the moment everyone looks after themselves and that‘s how it is.”

We dont know whats going to happen when DD gets here. Also Crawley announced on NRL 360 that Bellamy will make an announcement on his future this coming week. Munster and Papa will decide their futures based on what Bellamy does. We can but dream. Imagine this forum if these were the moves the board had been planning. Do I believe it? Ofcourse not but you never know.

I'm very disappointed with how all of this transpired.

I really wasn't a fan of the way Walters' treated the halves in the pre-season. It reeked of indecision and in the end it didn't inspire any of the halves to play well. Then to flip when the Broncos had some very difficult assignments made the situation even worse and the whole team paid as a result.

I'm also very disappointed in Dearden for rushing to get out of here and join the Cowboys when the club bent over backwards for him. The least he could have done is repaid the faith the club shown in him, I really expected better.

What a way to cap off a horrible weekend of footy for the Broncos.

No chance

But I do hope they have a 7 ready to go - form aside, between this, Walsh and Fifita it’s just a terrible look

Yeah it sucks to be a Broncos fan these days but losing current Dearden is no loss. He may become something but it won't be three or more years, if he does and we have a need, we can always try and get him back after someone else has put the work into him instead of us for once.

I just mean that he won’t back his talent, but stay where it’s comfortable for less.
If (big if) we meet the market it’s going to be sub $500k. I would take less to stay in Brisbane over having to relocate my family to Sydney and wouldn’t really consider that a loser attitude though.

It is an abysmal look.

Lose:
Boyd, Bird, Macca, Fifita, KNik, Walsh, Dearden, Joffa, Simpkin, T.Boyd

Gain:
Copley, Asiata, Mead, Croft, Kennar, Kennedy, Flegler inflate extension, Piakura inflated extention, Riki extension, Farnworth extension

Something stinks in all that particularly when you consider we didn't even make serious plays at the likes of Burton, Walker and Opacic who we likely could have all got.

There is little light at the end of the tunnel but hopefully this changes come May 1.

May the 4th be with us all?

If I were the Broncos, I'd be offering him no more than 200k and if he is ok with that, I am happy to keep him. Anything more, I'm hanging up the phone.

I disagree, I wouldn't be surprised if he hits the ground running next year and fans come to realise how badly the Broncos mismanaged him.

I couldn't care less about the Broncos line-up in 2025.

The sky isn't exactly falling when Tom Dearden is leaving. This is a good thing guys. This says to me that someone else is coming. Hopefully it's someone other than Billy Walters. :P

We don't need kids who aren't showing anything though, we need ready made first graders. Dearden may go well in a mature side, we aren't that, we are not a good fit for each other at present.

I agree the sky is not falling, but less than a week ago KW publicly declared we are not losing Dearden.
Unless there is some master plan at play that no one knows about except Kevvies inner circle, this just looks desperate and amateur.

First Fifita, now Dearden.
Both assured by the club in the weeks leading up to their signing elsewhere, that we 100% would not be losing them.
Its even worse this time around because Kevvie has also come out and publicly said Dearden is the future of this club.
Well i guess our future just walked out the door.

How many times can the future walk out the door or even past the door though before heads role?

In an ideal world, you'd want to have an experienced half AND Dearden, who the club have invested so much time into already. Dearden is struggling, but so is the rest of the side and he has absolutely no support.
