RUMOUR Payne Haas 10yrs

Well he still has a contract & I can't see the Broncos letting him leave.

The club will not let him walk that is for sure, he is contracted to 2024. A lot can change from here to there, he may feel for TPJ now but if we are playing good footy next year these bumps can be left behind. The media are talking it up for clicks and spice. I have no doubt that the Broncos will not budge on a release for Payne, and other news sites are talking about this contract going to the board and it was Paynes management that made this offer not the club, so Payne hasn't turned down our offer the board will be examining his offer next month.

Haas:
"I think him going to Penrith for the next few months will help him a lot, especially under a guy like Cam Ciraldo, who is a really good defence coach.

"That is all that Tevita needs to work on, his attack's there and he is one of the most damaging ball runners in the comp.”

Maybe the cheaper option is to offer Ciraldo the head coaching gig?

So let's run through this.

- Payne's management pitches a 10 year deal to the Broncos
- This is pushed up to the board for approval
- Word comes out that the board are not rapped in a 10 year deal
- All of a sudden Payne is making noises that he isn't overly happy and certain sections of the media are running with it.

Very clear negotiating tactic.

If Payne wants to leave, then i highly doubt his manager would have proposed a career long contract ... it's not like he'd have to worry about either the money side of things or the length of the contract. Payne will get a big money long term contract at any club.

I haven’t seen any of the stories that the media are running on Payne tonight but 1m/5yr deal imo is the best outcome for both the club and player.
I will say one thing, the Broncos better deal with this negotiation delicately. Payne is and has been the heart and soul of this squad for at least the past two seasons. He has been underpaid (yes he signed a contract with those figures) but a lot of shit has gone down at the club since he signed that. Add to that he has seen plodders like Milford cash in 1m every year.
1m could end up a bargain if he continues his rise and the last thing we want to have to do in 12-18 month is risk paying even bigger $ to keep him here. You can just about guarantee that he could get close to 1mill a year at a top 4 club.
He is something special, whatever you do Brisbane, do not **** this one.

They’re all just playing the game. I actually don’t give a **** anymore about any player that’s just plays for themselves and their next contract. That shit is not good for club culture and teams that are full of these type of players will never win a comp. Corey Parker represented himself and took unders his whole career for the good of the club. He made a fucking good living and had a hell of a career. All the players that we currently have that make remarks like “rugby league is a business, and I don’t know where I’ll be next” can **** off. I don’t give a **** who they are or how good they are. How good is JT13! He’s a fucking beast on a million bucks a year for the rest of his career, and how good are the cows going!! I love Haas and think he probably is worth the money, but **** him if he’s going to try and put ultimatums on the club or make fucking demands about keeping his mate around( who has been shopping himself around for 18 months) If he keeps his nose clean, and plays for his jersey every week, and declares he loves the club and would do anything for the club he’s worth it. If he thinks he can say “pay me lots or I’m going to the Roosters”
I’ll pack his fucking bags for him.

Yeah he’s good but $1 million is not a bargain for any forward. Would a combination of say Welch and Mo be worth less than a Haas? You could get both for Haas’s million. No prop is a bargain at 1 million.

1m for a prop is uncharted territory, I get it.
But as is the player, Haas is an exception to the rule.

Forwards are different. You want your forwards to be good across the board and not putting all your eggs in one basket.

The way the board have performed the last couple of years I am not confident they will get this right.
Would prefer donuts and ikin handled this despite the big dollars involved.

the only role the board will have is to approve/deny the request ... all the negotiations will be done through DD/Ikin

Payne didn't look too happy.
Certainly doesn't seem happy that TPJ was let go.
A lot of talk about NRL being a business.

Worrying.

the media did absolutely everything they could to antagonize Payne ...

and if he wants to go, then he can **** off

True, but since managers think based on their cut a $100,000 a year income if the Broncos come to the table is better than $70,000 a year to leave. This is just a letter from his manager saying he's gone unless you pay the $1 mill. It is how I would do it especially as everyman and his blind dog can see that he is the life of our party.

I could understand why Payne would want to leave if we're still shithouse in 2023 (he is contracted till 2024?) but I think we'll have improved enough to keep him around. Relax people.

I thought he looked and talked the exact same way then any other interview ive watched with him.
