Sidenote, still hate our bench rotation.

If Kelly was fit, should have started. Especially if the plan was to sub off Croft for him.

Riki was so fucking gassed at stages, gotta get him a break. Kelly in at 7 and TC on the bench would have been far better.
Agree Kelly should have been subbed for Croft in the first half and Riki just doesn't have the fitness yet too start and should be a bench player. Kennedy has become the new Flegler with at least one stupid penalty a game. With the amount of dud calls we get our captain should be in the refs ear all game and while walking off at halftime but all we get from Glenn is crickets.

We lost. So now kevvy can change the 7.

I actually think we need a good coach. Maybe some better assistant coaches will be enough, cos the players do appear to be putting in for Kev. But his team selections and bench management is baffling.
Its his first season and has dealt with a shit show of a team with no management for half the season. Which good coach do you Insist on??

That is an even up for feldts no try last week if I have ever seen one. Even people with their eyes painted on could clearly see that isaako was purposely taken out.
We get dudded on every square up that gets made up. The ones that’s happened in the game before us or the one that supposedly benefited us (it was a no try).

Brisbane just made it too hard for themselves. Did well to draw first blood but then they followed it up with some terrible lapses. To get driven into touch back to back is just brain-dead football and that sadly set the tone.

28-8 it was game, but it was nice to see them score some consolation tries like they did against the Panthers. Just effort plays which may not mean anything now but in the long run if they can build on that will swing a game in their favour if they keep it up.

Once again, didn't think the edge forwards played that well. They were exposed a couple of times and poor Riki got absolutely monstered in defence at times. Would love to see how Frizell made his break early in the second half because that was a huge turning point in the game. Very lazy from the middle who actually had some good defensive resolve at times.

I thought Palasia was fortunate to stay on the field for his hit on Hunt. I thought Brisbane copped a few stiff calls as well, with the set restarts once again being an absolute lottery. I can live with those costly late set restarts, it's the nothing ones on tackle two in the opening set of six when nothing has really happened that annoys me. It's clearly trying to even up the count, but they're completely different values.

A couple of baffling video referee decisions. It was game over, but that Mann decision was like salt in an open wound.

Great effort by the boys at times. We must be getting used to trying to win with less than 40% ball. With competent officials we would have snuck home.
Newcastle should have won by plenty but having spent overs on nearly every player in that team they won’t feature in the playoffs again. At least we will next year sans croft, Glenn and Nui.
I hope Kevvie finally says something about the bunker and the ref. 🤬

Some positives ...

1. That defense to start the game. We didn't have our first set for 9 damn minutes ... in 2020 that would have meant we were down by 30 at half time.

2. Xavier Willison. This kid is going to be something special, loved that he put himself in the right position to score. Great stuff.

3. Tyson fucking Gamble. I was wrong about him, when I thought he was an ISC half that could manage to get himself up for a few games here and there in the top grade ... no sir ... he has come on in leaps and bounds this year, he is am NRL quality 6 and has earned first shot at the 6 in 2022 IMO

Plenty to like and we were unlucky. That first set six again set us for later. It was costly and could have been avoided.

Bench use was a bit ordinary. Should have Kelly on late in the first half and start second half. Pretty good team effort I thought. Really could use the field a bit more because we'd matched them in the forwards and earned the right to spread the ball more often. We don't set deep enough wide lines. We consistently made good metres on the too rare occasions we tried it.

What a downer of a day. Boomers, Kookaburras and Broncos.

Lucky the little skateboarder dude was super gnarly and our Canoe boys smashed it too.

Fox commentators talking up Niu while ignoring everything he doesn’t do off the ball is very irritating, it’s as if they get a cut from his manager. That Fitzgibbon try in particular where Isaako was held off the ball, Niu was standing almost under the post watching. Similar effort in the Pearce try where he should have got down low to stop him from reaching out. He is eerily similar to Milford. Like a lot of these kids they play a handful of nrl games & think they are superstars & deserve the massive contracts, It’s a good test of character for the club to weed out.

You’d almost consider holding onto Levi after the last 2 rounds. Best hooker at the club.
In some ways I feel like we still need a brain dead mule like turpin to cop the brunt of the tackling in the first 20 minutes. Then a guy like Levi can come on and bring some energy around the ruck.

also, why are we still persisting with Croft? Walters is a stubborn prick

I think Kev‘S utilisation of Hetherington was poor. The first 15 min he was cutting the opposition in half which was covering one side of the field. The Kev takes him off until the 70th min.
Agree. He snapped someone good just after coming back on too. An extra 15 minutes for him and maybe 15 less for Riki tonight would have helped us immensely.

Yep, happy to send him on his way. Scared of contact and never seems to put his body on the line. Got some ability in attack but he is nowhere near NRL level.
