OFFICIAL Broncos sign Ryan James

I honestly @Kimlo was being facetious
Great word facetious.

One of only 2 in the English language to contain ‘a, e, i, o, u’ in alphabetical order.

Also, can’t stand James, will find it incredibly difficult to support him.

Big thumbs down. Canberra signed him for the exact same reason we are, and during his time there he was dropped and loaned to the Bulldogs.

He isn't a marquee signing, he is signed for experience, leadership and depth. If he can't make the team because others are ahead of him, this is a good thing.

I would have preferred to keep bullemor but see the value in this signing.

An experienced prop to come into the game from the bench to support the less experienced reserves and maintain the middle when hass comes off.

What I am liking about our signings is that we are identifying what we need in our team and recruiting players on this basis.
Sucks loosing Bullemor but the James signing means we can keep alot more of our young players in the future. In 2 years Bullemor would be upgraded and in 2 years James will be close to retiring so no upgrade needed while adding experience and his knowledge to help the young guys in the team while he's here.
Its a real smart signing from the club

All I said was, Canberra signed him for that exact reason, and are letting him go halfway through his contract. Is that a sign he wasn't offering much leadership and/or depth?

it's a sign that they have an older far more experienced pack than we do.
So why did they sign him for 2, and release him after 1? Raiders announced him as a good addition to the club for their up and coming players. And it looks like we are looking to sign him for those same reasons.

Has he not benefited them?

who knows why the Raiders do anything. but our pack is an infant compared to theirs. they likely wanted/needed him for some depth rather than his leadership

Raiders Recruitment and High-Performance Director Peter Mulholland said the signing of James was wonderful for the club, with his qualities as a player and individual expected to compliment the club culture.

“We know what Ryan can bring to our club with his football and leadership,” Mulholland said. “He’s a tremendous talent who leads by example on and off the field and we believe he will be valuable addition to our forward pack, particularly for some of our up and coming players.”

all that is is just spin

all that is is just spin
Right. So we're better off just guessing as to why they signed him, not how they talked up his signing when they announced it, saying where they think he will improve their squad. Makes sense.

I don't think anyone on here will be able to provide you with the exact reasons as to why James tenure at the Raiders was not as successful as both parties had hoped, i dont believe any of us are part of the Raiders head office staff.

Maybe his family didn't settle, maybe the school for his kids sucked, maybe he missed living in SEQ, maybe his partner couldn't find a suitable job, maybe it was too cold, maybe what the Raiders promised him during contract negotiations didn't eventuate, maybe the Raiders young players didn't want to listen to a player coming from a bottom dweller team whilst they had some previous years of success, maybe Sticky wasn't a fan of the signing so set James up to fail...the list is endless of speculation.

This is a cheap signing that bolsters a young inexperienced roster. If he doesn't work out and leaves after a year like he did in Canberra...so what. These are signings that happen all the time across all clubs.

On the glass half full side we have a hardened prop that if called upon, doesn't drop his head when his team is down by 20 points (due to his time at Titans) which might rub off onto our young forwards, if only 1 of our young forwards gels with him and gets advice about being a better player than it's upside. The guy is also heavily involved (or at least has been) with the Starlight Foundation who volunteers to put the smiles on faces of sick kids so if some selfless attitude also rubs off on our guys making them better humans then the signing is worth it.

you really don't get things do you?
I've simply stated Canberra signed him for his experience, which was also quoted by them in their announcement when they signed him, detailing he would be good for their young players, this is exactly why Brisbane have signed him.

But I don't get things, because it doesn't suit your opinion of him being a good signing. The club who signed him for the same reason, got rid of him at the earliest opportunity, including loaning him to another club mid season.

What exactly is it that I'm failing to grasp?

A lot of good points, although those points are cheapened by the fact half the season has been in SEQ, and most likely next year will be too.

You are also saying we don't know why things happened, then also claiming it's cheap a cheap buy. What is cheap? Was his salary made public? If it's a minimum wage signing, then I have no major issues, other than I don't really see him playing much NRL with a full strength side, and that spot could be used for a young player. You're also saying he would have learned from the Raiders, but the only year he spent with them, they missed the finals when they were expected to compete for the premiership, and the club was a shamble. We also have 2 blokes coming from top 4 sides with lots of experience, which again lessens the requirement for a bloke like James.

If we have paid anything over 200k, I think it's a waste of money.

I got a challenge for you ... find me a club that doesn't praise the best attributes of a player they have signed and talk about those as the reason said player was signed. they always justify their signings publicly.

hell, I'll make it a bit easier for you ... it doesn't have to be a rugby league club

You're proving my point. I said that's why Canberra signed him, and it's exactly why we are signing him. My concern is they don't want him anymore, for the job we are signing him for. Is he not good with young players? Is he bringing no benefit to them off the field?

You really don't get things, do you?

you can make those arguments for pretty much any player that doesn't score a huge contract.

for example. should we have not signed Adam Reynolds, i mean Souths didn't try to keep him so he must be a poor signing
