Anyone who thinks a second Brisbane team won’t negatively impact us is being naive. Especially if it’s coached by Wayne, and especially given the current state of our club.
Given the talent the Broncos have let slip through their hands over .....forever?

I don't think so.

Lets not forget every manager and player will also know that there is a whole cap reay to be taken for a ride. If anyone here thinks multiple top level players are going to head there for unders they are kidding. No the top level talent will want be the marquee signing and be paid according to that.

They will not be able to claim the cap can't handle it initially, so they will need a couple of big signings to set the ball rolling and it will not be for cheap. Also they will not have the luxury of a league collapse like Melbourne did, with teams being made redundant and players needing homes. I predict a similar outcome to GC, a top forward and a few top backs. With plenty of mid level players chasing a chance or level up in pay. It will not equal success right away even with Wayne and the history of the Dolphins behind it. All these Egos coming together, no club identity or ethos in NRL level and unproven support base. It will take time and very skilled management to not see the cap be blasted on a few top dogs that may not even play well together.

Wayne will likely as usual push for players he has coached. Look for Milfords, Hunts and Walkers name to pop up, even Mitchell. There will be a lot of speculation but not many of his boys are still here to be honest and by then we could be really coming good. I look forward to another rivalry, we need more of it, may make us Broncos fans a bit more lively.

I agree with all your points but I don’t necessarily think they need to be successful to impact us.

I mean they will impact us on more subtle levels. Your examples of players wanting a big pay day to go there, that just as easily equates to our players using that to drive their prices up to stay because they can threaten to go up the street for more money. Sure this will impact all the clubs but as it will have the least geographical impact choosing between the 2 Brisbane clubs it will impact us the most.

We are already getting into bidding wars with the titans every time one of our star players come off contract and that will be the same with Brisbane 2.0. We now also have to contend with another club sniffing around young QLD talent. Again, this is already happening with the other clubs but it will impact us (and Melbourne) the most. Sponsorships will be another area that is impacted.

From a neutral perspective I’m a big fan of the idea of the Dolphins getting an NRL club (I don’t rate the other options) but i think it will no doubt have some impact on the broncos.

I think if anyone will be able to minimise the impact it will be DD and Ikin but if the old regime (White/Nolan) were in charge I think it would put huge pressure on the club.

The Phins are going to make an impact, there is no doubt about it in my mind. They have a fantastic coach coming in. Its night and day between somebody like Cartwright when the Titans started and getting Wayne Bennett. They also arent a club that has no history. They have over 70 years behind them as an organisation. They have junior pathways already in place, they have the finances and infrastructure. They arent just some manufactured outfit to get an NRL license, they are the real deal and they will have an impact on what we do here at the Broncos. On top of that, they are going to eat into the Storms recruitment as well which will be a good thing.

That's all well and good but even the Titans initially were a very competitive side, it's what happens after it wears off that will determine the success of Redcliffe.

Bennett probably has one more 2-3 year deal left him in, they do have junior pathways but they're also next door to probably the richest sporting franchise in all of Australia.

This isn't expansion at all, it's shoving another team in the middle of Brisbane to keep happy those in NSW who have been carrying on for years about the Broncos being a 1 town team. Expansion would be a team in Perth, or something like that.

As for the rivalry, it will only become a rivalry if we let them beat us.

Hopefully by 2023 we are back to being a top 8 side and that won't happen.

Wolfie - when you change allegiance to the Phins, who are transferring your man crush of Carrigan to?

Hoping this new franchise brings with it more quality rugby league highschools maybe a Sunshine Coast version of Keebra and better players coming out of morayfield and Redcliffe state highs.

I think we should have an expansion in Perth as well tbh, but Redcliffe are a different prospect to somebody like the Titans. Like i said, They have been around for years now ( 74 i think is the correct amount of years ), have a proper history and infrastructure and this has been a long term plan of theirs. Also, its not going to bother them moving in next to the richest sporting franchise in Australia when they already have an asset base that is almost double that of the Broncos. They wont need propping up like the Titans did financially. They are serious competition not just for Brisbane, but for everyone else in the NRL.

I wont have to change allegiance, i'll follow both! As for the player, i'll probably go with Joey Manu when he signs on with Reddy.
Who will you go for when they play each other. That’s the real question

I dont know tbh. Probably still the Broncos, but i could change my mind. I have an interest in both teams

PvL: we gave Brisbane assurances the new club won’t cannibalise the Brisbane playing group or Titans/Cowboys

Nekminut, Badel’s poaching raid:

PVL cant give any assurances about things like that. If a player is off contract he is fair game for any club in Australia or anywhere for that matter. Bloke's an idiot ruining the game.

the funny this is that of the 3 players Badel mentions in the article. two of them aren't even off contract for the 2023 season.

They couldn't sign Fifita to play for them before the 2024 season and they couldn't sign Haas to play for them before the 2025 season.

Tino has a player option in his favour for 2023, so technically he's available for their inaugural season
