Just being called the Dolphins is a bit shit. That’s just not how sport teams work for the most part. I’d claim the Teal of brisbane like the heat have if I were them.

You're obviously a fan of Redcliffe on some level so I suspect you will choose to ignore what am I about to say but there's a very good reason the South QLD Crushers crumbled into a heap, the Titans are quickly heading in the same direction (nearly every player they've taken from us hasn't quite hit the mark for them, what else can they do?).

It's also telling that they aren't prepared to go with the Redcliffe Dolphins name, essentially suggesting that having a team named Redcliffe isn't going to be enough to get the support that they'd like to see the club get. You might be a strong fan but the NRL certainly doesn't think being associated with Redcliffe is going to be enough to hit the mark.

Huge step up going from being a top team in the QLD Cup to establishing yourself practically next door to one of the giant clubs in all of Australian sport.

When the team fails they can always change the name from the Redcliffe Dolphins to the South Pacific Dolphins, and make it like the West Indies of Polynesia.

No doubt the NRL will do what they can to see to it that this new team gets going on the right foot but alternatively they can't control everything, if we get our shit in order (and I don't think there would be any higher motivation than there would be right now).. there's no reason we can't turn "The Dolphins" into our 3rd little brother

I get what you are saying, and I'm not actually a fan of them wanting to get rid of Redcliffe from the name. They clearly want them to encompass Brisbane and not just the Redcliffe region.

I don't think it's a fair comparison with somebody like the crushers. Redcliffe are totally different kettle of fish. They have a long history, 74 years of history behind them. They have a solid infrastructure that's been in place for a very long time. They already have the junior pathways up and running. They have assets worth between $70 million and $100 million, a turnover of around $50 million and somewhere in the region of $20 million in then bank. They are also getting one of the best coaches in the game to establish them. Plus they are starting with a clean slate with their roster which is a huge bonus. I don't see teams like the crushers or the Titans as being comparable in what they can bring to the table.

All those Redcliffe Juniors and the die hard supporter base they have will have to purchase new jerseys to match the colours of 'their team'.
Dolphin Oval/Moreton daily stadium is their colours if they even play out of it.

I'm a bit torn because I do want to support the Dolphins - not that I have any history there, but as a northside kid and being about to make the move out that way I'm happy to see them win the bid. But on the other hand if they start life with both Bennett and Munster I'm going to find it very difficult to hope they do well. Pencil them in as my second tea from, say, 2026 or 2027.
