The Dolphins discussion

I can see the likes of Hunt, Milford, Wallace, Lodge, Macca all ending up at the Dolphins, and if so, it'll turn into a retirement home. Then once Wayne is off contract he will retire and the place will be left a shambles.
The only decent signing I can see them making in 2022 is Ponga. I think if the Knights have the year (spoonish) that many are predicting for this season, the coin will be too good for Ponga to say no to.
If not, I 100% hope Isaako is their FB. For once I won't cringe watching him at FB.

They need a starting base and like i said before, you can only sign players generally who are off contract and if they happen to be older guys then thats what you do. All the blokes you mentioned would be pretty decent signings for them tbf but i bet they only sign 2 of that group, possibly 3 at a push. You look at who Wayne has got in, and they come from winning cultures mainly. I think thats what he's hoping to establish early on there as @theshed said. Its culture, its setting standards for the rest of the squad.

Exactly. Every club has old boys who hang around after retirement and keep egos and young guys in check and provide guidance through lives experiences.

In 3 years time when Wayne is no longer coach the players will still have to answer to the recently retired Broms, Nichols, Kafusi. All highly respected players. Much like we have had Parker, Hodges, Gillo etc in recent years.

The Dolphins already have old boys. Petereo Civoniceva, Dave Shillington, Aaron Barba and some of these absolute superstars of the game!

Honestly they aren't going to lure any player in their prime unless they give them a massive amount of money so sign some experience vets then try and get some youngsters that are very talented to give you a strong starting point. Ponga isn't gonna want to waste another 4 years trying to build a team to win a premiership. And if its all about money just remember one thing, Newcastle will sink their own ship to keep him but Bennett doesn't have a history of doing such things at any club he has been with.

Ive heard he is interested in Jarrod Wallace and Lodge too but surely they must be looking to sign some outside backs now and spine players

I would have thought either Wallace or Lodge, not both and either would be good for them.

That picture has been photoshopped....yeh?

I don;t think I've ever seen two more different facial expressions in the same scene....

Yeah it’s photoshopped.

Original photo it’s his son Lincoln.

Bellamy just struck back by re-signing one of their rookies on a 5 year 2.5 mill deal. Take that NRL

maybe they are "concerned"

because that sort of deal seems un-Bellamy like

He's doing exactly what he did at the Broncos, older experienced guys to get you through and learn success the first two years and then success with the players under that later on.

When you look at the Broncos first premiership Bennett already had the plan.

O'Neill- played Colts 90
Hancock-88
Johns-88
Renouf-88- Colts at Souths but with Broncos
Carne-89 Colts
Walters-90
Langer 88
Lazarus- 92
Walters-88- Reserve grade v Manly
Allen-89
Gillmeister-90
Cann-88- Colts with Easts but with Broncos.
Matterson-88

Currie-89
Hohn-88
Plath-88- Colts with Wynnum but with Broncos.
Gee-88

10 there from 88 is pretty brilliant club building. Just got to get that layer underneath right because Bennett won't be there to see it through.

Not for the price
We need to stop overpaying on forwards and start paying money for the spine
Spend it on who? The spine isn’t going to be sorted for a few years and it’s pretty clear Kev is banking on the young guys.

Meanwhile, we still don’t have a forward leader and someone that can teach our young forwards what it takes to be a winner. It isn’t going to be Haas, it isn’t going to be Capewell and it isn’t going to be James.

A pretty good way to instilling a winning culture is to bring in winners.

You mean premiership winner Kurt Capewell? What would he know about winning.. 🤔

Reynolds and Capewell are winners.

Haas is probably the best forward in the game.

I reckon he has bought well, given that we are most probably still in a bit of a hole with our cap.
