OPINION Broncos ‘Set to’ Win Cobbo's Signature. Badel warning.

Right? Potentially good news turned into a bunch of anti journalist whinging.
You would think after 3 wins on the trot people wouldn't be so negative.
Yeah. The anti journalism discourse some these boards descend into is just the lowest form of discussion. Like, couldn't be further from boring seeing pages upon pages of "governing body bias wouldn't" or "typical referees manufacturing X". Can't we be a better class of fan to the rest of them? Too much to ask?

If the standard of "journalism" wasn't so consistently fucked.....the discourse would rear its head less often. You make a good point though...once its been said, no need to flog a dead horse.

I imagine this occasion happened because someone was attempting to convince us that the standard of journalism is something its clearly not.

No. It happens on ever thread. It's so tiresome

Badel is a turd though, I don't post because I care about the articles, I don't, at all, I post for some discussion. It's horse shit but it gives us a reason to discuss topics, no matter the truth of the opening post.
He isn’t employed to get it right, much like my post that you ignored said.
It could be if there was actually something to report.
Okay, enough of this bullshit.

1. This story should never have been posted as "news." It was only ever worth a couple of lines and some quotes inserted in the Rumours thread. If you've noticed, that's what I've been doing.

2. It was very obviously a prediction, not a reporting of fact. Predictions can be right, wrong or anywhere in between. But they can not be lies. The problem in this thread is reading comprehension, and also that the OP presented it as news, not an editorial prediction.

3. If you're relying on publishers - such as News - to turn a blind eye to you blatantly thieving their copyright, and rubbing it in by recycling their headlines - at least do them the courtesy of not defaming and smearing the authors within the article. And attacking the author in the title is beyond the pale. I was under the impression we were trying to fly under the radar with this so the site would not be sued into shutting down. I have gone to great lengths to avoid what you are doing here.

4. Finally, you blokes are mods. You should know better than to be carrying on with this charade. It's only trolling. Fine that you're getting this toxic discussion going to "attract eyeballs" but please don't get the site taken down by getting cocky over us stealing other people's work.

1 - It's published on a News website as an article - it's news
2 - "set to" means imminent. You can argue English definitions all you like but you're not an authority, it's open to interpretation.

3 - What work have I stolen exactly? Cut the BS.

The headline is my own writing, it's not copy pasted from anywhere, it's not even close to the Courier Mail title. I have not used a single line from the Courier Mail, it is all my own words and I have not editorialised it at all, I've simply posted the quotes from Ikin, Walters and Oates, which are not the copyright of the Courier Mail.

You can discuss news, that's a protected right under copyright laws, you just can't copy their work, which has not been done in this thread, at all. The fact that you think that means you've failed to read it because of the red in the your eyes.

4 - Badel is a turd.

Editorial and opinion is not news. It's opinion.

"Set to" is a prediction.

Re copyright: discuss this at your next moderators meeting.

English teacher here.

No. Set to means they are about to or preparing to do something.

Journalists should be above guessing games and making stuff up. Your boy is up there with The Mole if he's talking about rumours.

Badel also passed off the exact same article the @Kimlo shared as news not opinion

Who are you talking to?
......I can't see, I must have them on ignore...and they me.

Seeing an article like this I get a bit of a boost as there's probably reasonable grounds for thinking Cobbo is at least strongly leaning towards staying with us, but as for the contract amount, I don't bother myself with that. I trust DD and Ikin to get that right.

You’ll know we are back on track when other fans accuse us of cap rorting again.

This is exactly why i dont mind speculative journalism, because the guys with the contacts generally know more of whats going on than the average "Joe" and when its good news, i enjoy it.

They might get it right, they might get it wrong, but i like the info because the alternative is no news.

I do find the constant shitting on Badel funny, considering Ikin seems to listen to him (or did when he was on 360) and most people here respect Ikin.

Odd.

Ikin is also good mates with Green and Kent. His taste is questionable

Nah I don't like articles like this. All this article does is hype up the player and place him on the radar for other teams to poach and create a bidding war. I like how Melbourne does things, low key signings without much fanfare and announcing the signings to the media after the signature is on the dotted lines.

There is nothing in any dictionary I can find that claims “set to” is a prediction.

here’s a couple I could find though.

-to be set to (do something): to be ready to, to be prepared to (do something); to be on the point of (doing something) idiom. We're set to go.

-adjective Prepared or ready to begin or undertake something.
