NEWS Payne Haas retracts immediate release from Broncos then

Just asking for a friend, but was Payne ok with the Tooheys New & The Star Logos on his shirt last night?
Info I saw was that he did not specifically mention it to anyone at the blues camp. His comments on that were in general. Probably before he realised a massive chunk of sponsors of both most clubs and the NRL itself derive a substantial income from alcohol and gambling, payday loans etc. Take that away and he'd have to take a massive pay cut without that money in the game.

I reckon if Payne felt that strongly about it that they'd let him cover up the advertising with a bit of tape or something, I have seen that in other codes

However, I don't think he feels strongly about it enough to cop a reduction in his salary for not advertising the brands that sponsor the club

He's managing what I'm sure is a painful injury. He's a tough unit, that much is for sure.

Imagine if Haas gets dropped from game 2 or 3 of origin? Wouldn't that be a fall from grace.

Supposed best prop in the game
Refused an upgrade, behaves like a child
Gets totally outplayed by his broncos team mate on half his wage

Potentially starts getting less minutes at Brisbane as we get all our young guns fit and rearing to go.
No longer the big dog, the broncos. We just need to play hard ball for a bit longer and he will make his own noose and watch all those NSW offers start dwindling.

If he is still around by the end of 2024, there is no way we offer him anywhere near what he is on now.

he problem is that none of those NSW teams are prepared to offer more than his contract with us for a Prop.

the mistake he made was that he was trying to get us to panic and over pay for a prop for fear of us losing him. but he pulled his stunt at the complete wrong time after we were on a 5 game (at the time) winning streak and climbing the ladder; winning several of those games without him, proving we don't need to fear losing him

In all reality, Pat Carrigan has become Payne's worst nightmare. Haas has kicked up a stink over his supposed undervalued contract and while he has done it, and missed games for us on top of that, Patty has stepped up and shown he is on a pretty similar level to him for around half the money. He's totally out performed him on our games biggest stage and surely its making the Broncos think now letting him go could be the best thing we do. If he pulled this stunt maybe after the warriors game he might have got us panicking, but now, i think we can see we can cope without the grub.

My view is that this was actually the catalyst. He's not playing his best, he's carrying an injury limiting his time, his impact and yet, we're doing better than we've done since he pulled on the jersey.

I suspect the timing of this was a reflection of his falling value becoming very apparent to all and sundry and he's trying to secure what he can now before it falls too far.

Add in the off field stuff, the complete lack of competence by his manager, the fact we can win games when he's not there, he is in no way worth a dime more than we're paying him. If anything he's paid too much for being an utter bonehead - causing issues for the club off field.

Haas has never managed to make an impact at Origin level and tonight was no different - he was pitiful and soft, he lacks the physicality to lift at rep level… he can rumble along at baseline intensity for 80 minutes but he doesn’t ever elevate his game to wrestle back momentum or impact play the way someone like Papalii regularly does.

On the flip side, Carrigan was arguably best on field tonight - playing huge minutes, giving an inspired performance (even having to play on an edge for a while), and to see him in the changerooms at half time speaking authoritatively and instructively with the whole team (and coach) listening along as he lead them was inspiring.

There’s absolutely no doubt in my mind which player I want moving forward, and which one deserves big money.
Payne Haas is the Samantha Stosur of props. The power and the motor, but no killer blow

The laying into haas for his origin game here is a bit much. He was actually quite good for the blues, maybe their best forward. But they were dominated across the park. Is Cleary a better 7 than DCE? Yes, absolutely. But they were all out enthused and I think coached poorly.
I don’t think that Patty is better than Payne just yet, but he’s definitely as good as, with more upside. That’s the reality that Payne needs to get used to, unless he goes and works on his aggression/ptb speed.

he’s been getting some very bad advice, he’s be better served listening to one of his best mates, Patrick.

It’s in the rules, Blues players must be criticised and ridiculed at every opportunity.

The thing with Payne is that he thinks that he is quite the legend. I mean look at his Instagram handle. With this self praise in mind, he is yet to light up the game in the toughest arena.

Chaps that go about their business like Paddy and Cotter now have a more impressive origin performance. This isn’t uncommon, I mean Ethan Lowe in game three 2019. Wowsers. I even remember Greg Bird having more of a crack. So I think the roast is kinda fair.

Freddy is an absolute spud. A benefactor of ‘give it to Latrell, turbo and teddy’ while we were quite clearly going through a changing of the guard. He didn’t want the gig 2016-17.

Haas isn’t very good. He’s big and fit and severely underwhelming considering what he could be if he was more explosive or creative. Hes an ok footy player at this point, but hasn’t shown any signs of growth, unlike every other player had at the same time that has stuck around. Also he’s a fuckwit. **** that guy
