POST GAME [2022 State of Origin - Game 2] NSW vs QLD

Talakai isn't a bad bench option. He covers centres, edge and middle all to a good standard.
Good standard? Debatable, but probably good enough club level, but is he a good origin standard? I don't think so.

Freddy can’t coach & Cleary can’t play without half of Penrith in the side.

Cleary can't play when the ref doesn't allow him to play in a dinner suit. The refs would normally hold the opposition back 12 metres and be calling players back if they were to pressure him. He didn't get that luxury in Origin and it showed. Let's see how the refs go this time after almost certainly being chastised for their actions.

It’s pretty obvious qld is going to get reamed by the refs after all the nsw sulking & media campaigning about the ruck.

How has he not been playing to a good standard? Last year for the Sharks he was great in the middle. Just because he hasn't been scoring 2 tries a game and dominating like he did against Manly, doesn't mean the bloke isn't playing well.

Fittler made mass changes back in 2019, but this time around he doesn't have Maloney and Turbo to save his ass.

That Game II side was better than the Game I side. I don't see that this time around.

They will likely still win, though. The odds of Game III being a decider are greater than QLD wrapping it up in 2 games.

Hi @BooKhaki ..... please note I did say it was debatable, ie 50/50, but probably good enough. The point was that I don't think he is Origin standard.

Can you explain why you think it's debatable that he has been playing well? His form has been very impressive.

What makes you think he isn't origin standard?

NSW have only managed to win 1 series from 7 after losing the first game at home.

1988 - Lost Game I 26-18 (Allianz), lost Game II 16-6 (Suncorp), lost Game III 38-22 (Allianz)
1994 - Lost Game I 16-12 (Allianz), won Game II 14-0 (MCG), won Game III 27-12 (Suncorp)
1995 - Lost Game I 2-0 (Allianz), lost Game II 20-12 (MCG), lost Game III 24-16 (Suncorp)
1998 - Lost Game I 24-23 (Allianz), won Game II 26-10 (Suncorp), lost Game III 19-4 (Allianz)
2010 - Lost Game I 28-24 (ANZ), lost Game II 34-6 (Suncorp), lost Game III 23-18 (ANZ)
2015 - Lost Game I 11-10 (ANZ), won Game II 26-18 (MCG), lost Game III 52-6 (Suncorp)
2016 - Lost Game I 6-4 (ANZ), lost Game II 26-16 (Suncorp), won Game III 18-14 (ANZ)

Overall they have lost the opening game 20 times and have only managed to go on to win the series 3 times, with 1 being a drawn series in which QLD retained the shield.

Out of the 20 times they have lost the opening game, they have won the second game 12 times. QLD have clean sweeped the series 4 times.

Bloody 1994. Game 1 was so epic, it got me hooked on footy for life. Then we lost the series. Argh.

Hey mate, well the simple answer as to why it's debatable, is there are people that think he is great, and there are others who think he is a flat-track bully. That by its very definition means it is debatable.
You look at the truly great players, you don't see any arguments (even from opposition fans) about how good they are, it's plain as day for everyone to see.
There isn't universal agreement on the big T and therefore it's debatable :)
As to my personal opinions on him, I think he had 1 breakout game, and ever since there's been a media circle jerk over him, and some people are buying in. Maybe I am being too harsh though, perhaps it would be better to say that I don't think he is as good as the media are portraying.
Anyway, it's all just opinion :)

Nobody is saying Talakai is a truly great player, he is a bench player for NSW.

He had an enormous first half verses Morgan Harper, but he has still been good all year. He was also really good in the forwards last year, edge and middle. Look at the numbers he has been producing for the Sharks week in week out. I feel a lot of this forum take their opinions on players solely from the games they play against Brisbane and SuperCoach scores.

just 1 bang average player towelling up another bang average player (Himself vs morgan harper) Shows where the blues are at if they are picking him, 20 other players that are ahead of him and could do a better job, good for QLD though

Really? Who gives a **** about postcodes......? Surely an iconic QLD sponsor holds more weight? Can't we just have everybody's hometown "postcode" written within the players bio.......like they generally do..... every other fucken year?
