I don't really understand why we went right here.

We had a better chance of scoring on the left. A scrum in an attacking position, I would have thought they would have come up with an attacking play from the scrum using Mam and Oates on that left side. Faking to throw a cut out and going short to Oates, or drawing in the winger and throwing a cut out to Mariner.

Attacking plays from the scrum have been working for us quite well this season. I don't see why we didn't stick with what's worked for us throughout the year.

Part of being a good playmaker, and I’m not saying this necessarily the case because I also think Adam misses the best decision pretty often, is to create an expectation from the defence to subvert it at a later stage and catch the defence of guard.

A very simplified example would be, if we attack on the right side on scrums 2 or 3 times then set up to do the same on the third time but all of a sudden swing left, than it will in theory catch then off guard.

The best halfbacks are playing these games with passes and kicks over 80 minutes.

Should have tackled after the Ref told him make the line ?
He didn`t make it to the line . Was offside .

Sure , 2 points and 10 in the bin to contemplate .

You would be jumping up and down then . Payne Haas had a similar dilemma earlier in the season . Caught out of position in front of the posts . Doesn`t attempt to tackle opposition score .DROP HAAS !! :rofl

Thanks for confirming what I just said .
I was trying to make a GIF to illustrate . Couldn`t make it work .

OK They are inside the 10m attacking zone only 1 marker allowed .
Tesi is not square and is not back 10 .
So offside . And the Ref let him know by saying make the line . Which he didn`t . If he played on its a penalty at least and 2 points and possibly 10 in the bin .

My understanding of the rule is that a minimum of 1 player to mark. If second marker still has to follow normal rules of square and moving after PTB.

Not inside the 10m .
1 marker . Rest back on the try line .[ Can be no markers if they are on the ground and no one moves to be marker . ]

The Ref calls out " Make the line " . in the highlights you took the screen shot from .

Helps to understand the rules , before we criticise players for following the rules .

He has to make the line if they chose 1 marker. If they choose "no marker" as you say - its actually still 1 marker man back on the line square infront of PTB. Please show me the rule of single marker only inside 10.

OK ! lets deflect and split some hairs then ?

Like I said Haas got caught in the same position earlier in the season . Didn`t tackle . They know its a penalty . Try to obstruct / take up space but don`t tackle because they know they are offside . Penalty in front and possible sin bin .

You're allowed 2 markers at all times.

You're allowed 2 markers at all times.

Didn`t know that .
I thought it was a rule ? I don`t see two markers in the 10 . Am I tripping or is it just a standard tactic ?

If so Apology to @007 for talkin rules when I didn`t understand myself .

Teams choose to do it because there's no benefit to having a second marker when the rest of the defensive line is so close.

Fair enough .
I think I learnt it at training . The coach yelling only 1 marker inside the 10 . And then interpreting that as a rule .
I went and read the rules nothing specific about inside the attacking 10 .

Either way he was not square . So not one nor the other . The way he pulled his hands back made me think he thought he was offside . I replayed it several times trying to work out what happened ,

I reckon the Storm would snap him up right now if we put him on loan.

I feel your pain though. I got loads of shit for saying Billy Walters is our weakest player. Can you think of a top 8 team that would take him as starting hooker? What about a bottom 8? He played his guts out against the Tigers, but my question still stands. How does he compare with Grant, Smith, Robson, Cook, Mahoney, Korisau etc?

Tesi is not our weakest player.
I think Roosters would take him if they didn't get Smith for next year, you literally just named the only hookers that you can say that are better then him the rest are at his level or worse.

Waited till today to comment of losing to the Tigpies. In a way its not as bad a result in the context of our season. True, it's an opportunity lost, however, we beat the Eels the week before. Many of us would have expected us to lose to the Eels and beat Tigpies which would have us on the same 26 points, but the Eels would now be 2 points ahead of us had we lost to them. So it's not hurt us too much but we do need to beat the teams around us starting with the Chooks this week. The top 4 is still on, but realistically 5th/6th is probably where we will end up and that will give us a home finals game and we go from there. Don't forget we won the GF in 2006 after finishing 5th in the regular season.
Regarding the game, it was a bludger of a performance. Reynolds was off and I have no doubt he was still crook. Billy Walters had a solid game and so did Flegs. I refuse to criticise Tesi, he will be great for us in the future. Dont forget Justin Hodges was prone to errors in his early career. Mariner went ok but cannot grasp why Brenko was dropped unless he was crook. Did not see Oates run down the wing much if at all during the game. Staggs is disappointing at present and not playing up to his wage, no idea what's wrong with him.
Anyway stay positive, people, confident we will be back on track this week.

I appreciate the glass half full post. I hadn't thought of it like that regarding beating the Eels vs beating the Tigers. Still stings, but a better way of looking at it.

Regarding the bold, injuries are always a possiblility and as someone pointed out somewhere else, Kev probably wanted to give him his debut before finals to avoid blooding him in a do or die match. Of our remaining matches, I'd imagine this was the best candidate.

And he did a pretty good job all things considered.

We finished 3rd in 2006. No one outside the top 4 since the McIntyre system has won a premiership.

Really? He caught him around the mouth. Just because the guy is built like a brick sh*house doesn't mean he has to cop it, smile, and play on!
