I don't mind a bit of passing between the forwards. Defences are too good these days to just bash it one up. You need a bit of something. It's been working well for most of the year.
Yeah exactly. When it's done well it's gold.
Roosters in about their 2nd or 3rd set of the game did just that, passed to the second forward to clear the A /B defenders and made an extra 10 metres and a quick PTB. We looked like we had never seen a 2 pass hitup before 🙄🙄

I think we were either badly coached/not properly prepared for that game. Roosters have always sprinted up in defence, especially on their edges. But we kept throwing the same shape at them over and over again, which just wasted possession at their line.

And they way the Roosters players always find their front for quick play of the balls was impressive.

Looking at the stats for the game, I think our middle let us down (with line speed and metres). Possession and penalties was even, we had less errors, and a higher completion rate. But meters gained and missed tackles...omg.

I think we were just flat. The point in the season, the demoralising loss to tigers, no Patty, inexperience in the spine - it all adds up.

I think the young team are so used to playing at Suncorp in front of massive crowds. the Parra game had a huge crowd at an awesome stadium. The SCG in the wet is like a park cricket match. It feels like there’s 17 people in the stands and they are 30 metres from the sideline. 0 atmosphere.

It must be like going to the gym and forgetting your headphones

How much does everyone think the conditions played in us losing last night?

When I heard we were in for rain, I pretty much drew a line through it. I don't have any solid data to back this up but I have it in my head we go to shit when it's slippery. I mentioned Selwyn being prone to slipping over, grassing the ball and losing confidence in the wet. That happened a bit last night, but he wasn't terrible. But he was definitely quiet, and we saw nothing of those few weeks of electric runs that preceded that wave of hype.

Reynolds is another who I have in my mind as a dry track bully. Again, he was downright poor last night on a damp field. Maybe he did have some kind of respiratory illness in the week. Maybe his ribs are still a massive issue. Maybe something else. He's overdue a blinder.

A few have commented on props passing to props, which we saw a few times. You mightn't have been complaining if one of those "props" (or locks) were Patty, I'm pretty sure. The difference being he's been running diagonal lines rather than hitting it up, and his passing game has improved out of sight. We really missed him last night. Massively.

Payne is a bit of a non-event. Without going into a breakdown of all his pros and cons, suffice to say, he was our least threatening forward in attack. And our attack was abysmal.

Pretty decent breakdown but I will point out that it was pissing down when we played Parra

It rained for about 5 mins during the Parra match and it was only moderate rainfall. The ground was in pretty good shape. The conditions were much worse last night. Also, the crowd that night numbered 11,000 which is less than half of capacity which discounts another theory that I read on here.

I realise everyone is looking for excuses but the boys are a bit flat atm. Not having Paddy and Herbie is massive on a roster that isn't overly imposing even at full strength. You must remember that this team looked like dogshit during the preseason and the first quarter of the regular season. It's not surprising that some of this form creeps back in from time to time. After all, they are still a work in progress.

They have probably over achieved a bit this year. Not one person alive expected them to be flirting with a Top 4 spot in 2022. One more win clinches a playoff berth and by then hopefully they are almost at full strength. The book has yet to be closed on this campaign despite the events of the last two matches.

Exactly. Still a lot of football to be played yet. If we click, which can happen quickly, we aren't out of it.

FMD: The way the media are going on about the Roosters win. It's like they GF contenders.

They aren't much chop especially with their sizeable injury toll. They should have put on 50 to a reserve grade Manly and a listless and disinterested Bronco side. They won't get past round 2 of the playoffs.

In regards to the weather we aren't really a grind it out side and we like to be expansive early and inside our own half... it's a trait we used to have with Lockyer and Khunt in the spine and I think it's something Kevvie wants us to have in our game to get it out to Staggs on the back of a 40m backline movement.

We also like to be mobile and interchange passing with our forwards.

Those kinds of moves slow down in the wet and especially when you can't get any momentum through the ruck to play off the back of.

I feel like we've been better this year in damp conditions with our ball movement, but it's our footing and constant slipping over that is most apparent to me. For whatever reason the entire team look like they're disney on ice at the slightest bit of dew or rain. I think that can lead to trepidation in your runs, because if you're unsure of your footing then your lateral movements are going to be impacted.

We lost the middle by fucking miles last night though and no one except Flegler stood up to try and change that. It's one of the most disappointing things about Haas' play... if we're getting monstered in the middle then we need big bustling runs from him and I thought last night he was pretty well contained. He is also extremely passive in defence... Flegler and Turps were the only ones I can recall putting on any sort of line speed... I think Billy was looking to put on some linespeed when he came on as well, but game was gone by then.

They played the perfect opening 20 last night, their halves were clicking and their forwards were running riot. If we stayed with them for that first 20 they probably struggle to win the game over the course of 80.

One legged leprechauns could have played perfect footy against us last night

Just last night?
Freddie makes up his own words, his favourite is “mate-ur-ly” and he uses it religiously, I’m not sure what he thinks it is supposed to mean. He’s been saying if for at least 15 years, I would have thought someone would have told him it’s not a word, particularly since he’s quoted so often.
