OFFICIAL Broncos winning the 2022 Comp

You really think Kevvie walks in "righto lads, we lost that game because of Tesi, so Tesi, you're out"

No he doesn't think like that, he's a coach, not a BHQ poster
Yeah tell me when I said that, but the fact remains he did pick wrong and It's likely to be changed accordingly, ofcourse no coach is just going to say to everyone this is the reason why, it will be a new selection and move on kind of deal.

You don't need to say it and I didn't say you said it, that's the mindset of BHQ right now though, all this headhunting, people carrying like Tesi instantly turned us into a team that isn't any good, it's pure garbage.

He was good enough when we beat teams without a whole host of players, even when we beat the Eels nobody had a thing to say. Suddenly a few losses after the team as a collective has played like shit and he's the reason.

I never said he was good enough and I did still express the same views about him when we were winning. Stop making things up.

I didn't single anyone out, it's just the collective view, read back on some of the commentary and people aren't really talking about how easily we got rolled in the middle, it's about how bad Tesi is.

Quite unfair, I think. Not sure which fullback is turning around that performance last night, don't there's a single fullback capable of it. We were making 20 metres a set in that first 20 minutes, meanwhile they were charging down the field and topping it off with some really good kicks.

I just don’t see why Tesi can’t be criticised due to the whole team being shit. The whole team isn’t always shit, there’s been a lot of games where our forwards stand up. The specific issues I’m talking about regarding Niu have always been in his game - even in Q cup, and they aren’t things that rely on the rest of the team in any significant way.

I’m in now way suggesting the result is purely Tesi’s fault but as an example, if a player has 6 unforced knock ons a game, it doesn’t matter how the rest of the team performs, that player has gotta go. Im talking about Tesi in a vacuum - he doesn’t have fullback qualities.

Here is a post of mine after the eels game where we probably had our best win in years and I was still frustrated with his performance:

I’m glad you posted this exact highlight because I was too lazy to do it, but look at the lack of enthusiasm from Tesi to get across and cover that. He did the Isaako jog across and then put no extra effort in to attempt a cover tackle. No excuses, we’ve all seen how quick he is - he is barely at half pace here.

One thing to jog to try not overrun the play but once the ball has gotten past the posts he should’ve turned the jets on. I don’t know if it’s footy IQ or a laziness toward the 1%ers but he does this week in week out.

I have no issues if he gets over there and outs in a bad attempt or gets steamrolled but at least try and get there!!

I am reading the various discussions and he seems to be the only one getting criticised. Read a few things about Haas too but I reckon that's got a bit to do with the contract he tried to get out of earlier in the season. A bloke can go from a superstar to a case of "we don't need him anyway" when he wiggles his way out of the club, Xavier Coates case and point.

My take is that he's struggling with the fitness of the position in the NRL and it wouldn't be made any easier when we're getting hammered through the middle. I am backing Kevvie to the hill and if he persists with him and keeps putting him in the side, I have no reason to not trust that he is seeing some good things at training. Kevvie hasn't got many things wrong, we've all doubted him at some point in time this season but in the end it's turned out to be the right calls that he made, or they made (the coaching staff).

Kevie has got plenty wrong and has said as much himself. He’s also done a great job considering the circumstances but he’s not perfect by any means.

Him being the only one getting criticised (which isn’t true anyway) doesn’t mean the criticism is wrong.

So while dropping to 7th isn't ideal, the good thing is that most of the top 8 will be playing each other over the next 4 weeks. Top 4 is still a possibility, but we can't lose anymore games.

I'm just worried about making the finals at this point. We are every chance of not winning another game or maybe one more win. Canberra and Manly are close to us.

Manly have to win all games (assuming we don't win another game, which is unlikely). They also play the Raiders, which is good for us as it will knock a chaser out

The Raiders have to win two more games than us. and if they only win two more games than us then they still have to overcome an 84 point worse differential than us.

p.s. the Roosters are 2 points behind us with a difficult draw (Cowboys, Tigers, Storm, Rabbitohs). they could potentially lose 3 of those 4.

Souths have a tough draw as well - Eels, Panthers, Cowboys and Roosters - and they could conceivably lose all of those, or only pick up one or two wins. We're no chance of top three but we're only two points out of fourth, and we play both the Eels and Melbourne, and they play each other. If we put a good win on Newcastle to get some confidence back and carry that into home games against the Storm and the Eels, we still have a good shot at finishing fourth to sixth, let alone just making the eight.

Ideally Souths beat the Eels well this weekend and then don't win another game. and Storm lose to Panthers and then us in consecutive weeks, and we're cooking again.

Good analysis, the ball really is in our court.

It absolutely is, and this is where all Kev's pumping up of these young guys with the "this is your time now" will come into play. If they're ready to do what it takes, they'll go deep into the finals. I'd love to see it but I don't think we're there yet. We should have a red hot crack next year though, and no doubt that will be Kev's focus when we inevitably fall short again this year. "You didn't want it bad enough this year...feel the hurt, use it to get through preseason and don't forget it. You're close, you've shown you can mix it with the best...time to work on next year and going one better" etc.

Or he could’ve kept picking the guys that were performing.

To be fair, I do think after that big win against Parra Kev felt it could be time to blood some of the future players at the expense of those leaving next season. Against the Tigers who were basically spooners at that time, it isn't exactly hard to believe that that would be a pretty simple thing to test out. Unfortunately, it didn't work out and we lost our best middle forward at the same time. So, with some buffer and having previously had some luck over the Roosters, thinking that it might just require some time for defensive combinations to work out, Kevvie stuck to the same team, who proceeded to get reamed through the middle, where the leadership was lost, before being picked apart on the inexperienced edges, where those combinations were still not satisfactory.

Unfortunately, I am also of the opinion that Tesi is not there yet as a defensive fullback, and definitely did not coordinate himself or the rest of the side well at all those two weeks, but honestly, we did not hold the ball long enough, nor respect the opposition early enough in both games to actually build up anything that would have resulted in a win. We still scored some tries, which is a great positive for the team going forward, but that middle defense really needs to tighten up and Reynold's/Staggs rushing defense needs to be better coordinated. It also requires covering slide defense from the FB to make up the numbers, otherwise it is an overlap every time. Reynold's should be the only one rushing up, not Staggs, because Staggs is strong enough, but yeah, that communication will come with time and confidence in each other.

This week will hopefully be better, with more experienced heads on the edges, and hopefully a tighter middle. Really, the game is always won and lost in the middle and if we can get some decent line speed early, and hold the ball early before all this passing stuff, we will grind the Knights down easily enough.
