FOOTBALL English Premier League 23/24 Discussion

Gg United.

Disgraceful performance by us. Like I said previously, our midfield depth belies our quality. It's really quite poor outside of 1-2 players. Elliot tried but misplaced too many passes and the less said about Hendo and milner the better. Once again, why is a 36yo starting most games for us?

Trent needs to get his head out of his arse, his defending has been atrocious since the end of last season and a handful of decent passes each game is nowhere close to making up the shortfall. Casually sauntering back when we're being countered... ffs
Elanga should not be besting many fullbacks in the league, let alone TAA.

Seems to be a few fractures too, Milner going at VVD.

Makes you wonder if LFC will go for a midfielder before the window closes.

In the past we've dismissed TAA being average at defending because of what he provides attacking wise, but it basically means he has to be a gun every game otherwise we're operating a net loss in terms of output, and realistically, few players can be consistent every game... it's costing us too much recently, remember it was Vinicius that exploited TAA's lack of positioning in the CL final just gone. Enough's enough.

I doubt we'll go for a mid, and if it ***** up our season, we've only got ourselves to blame.

Jurgen's post-match comments make it sound like he wants a midfielder, but the money isn't being provided.

We spent 85mill on a forward. If he knew we needed a mid why did we not prioritize it? We let Minamino, Mane and Origi go - we could've easily kept at least one of them with Jota, Firmino, Diaz and Salah in the ranks already. Obviously Klopp knows far more than any of us, but surely there are more options that would improve our squad outside Tchouameni and Bellingham?

Aye. It seems like a weakness in the system. They focus so much on getting the 'right' player - which obviously has paid dividends with a lot of our signings - but the refusal to compromise, means we're now in the situation we are, with injuries having a big impact.

And looking at our current midfielders, we have Thiago (brilliant as he is) and Naby Keita as part of the midfield rotation, but both seem to made of crisps. It just makes the reluctance to sign someone even more confusing.

Everyone can see we need a reinforcement or two.

Liverpool have been well off it so far. Cant believe they lost to that United side. I think they maybe have a few players that have just maybe started to slide, especially in midfield.

Agree about the midfield but defence is a problem too. How long are people going to overlook TAA's tendency to get caught out defensively just because he's great going forward?
And I think VVD hasn't been the same since he came back. Always looks nonchalant when playing, but sometimes he's almost too relaxed, like not switched on. Definitely lost a yard of pace. And he doesn't have a regular partner which doesn't help. Usually it's Matip, but last night was Gomez, sometimes Konate. Klopp needs to pick and stick.

United are still pushing for FDJ according to reports this morning. I can't see it, but does sound like at minimum a forward and GK will be coming in.

Its the game on Saturday United need to be more worried about. No point beating Liverpool if you get hammered by the likes of Brentford. That have to back it up against Southampton.

I have absolutely no doubt they will lose.

It's like they go into these games thinking all they need to do is just turn up which reflects in their performance and they just end up losing.

Horrible rumours going around Liverpool are close to agreeing a fee for Ruben Neves. Truly hope not, i dont want him going to one of the slimy six.

Where are you seeing this mate?

From a couple of mates of mine in the UK who are pretty spot on with their info. Liverpool apparently offering £60 million plus £20 million in addons, Wolves want the £80 million straight up. The only sources i can find in the public domain is this one. Not sure on the reliability of the source.

How much did you guys pay for him?

Around £15 million, which was a massive amount at the time for a championship club. Our owners have plenty of money tbf, so unless he forces a move, which i dont believe he ever would, he's just not that type of guy, then i dont think we will get lowballed on him. We had our pants pulled down with the Jota deal to Liverpool and how that was structured, which was all in Liverpools favour so i dont see it happening again.

Tidy bit of business if they get that amount.

It would be, but he's developed so much as a player and looking at the fee's i'm seeing for other players like Grealish for example, or the 60 million they are talking about for Gordon from Everton then i think 80 million is about right. I'd personally be asking for a higher fee, but i think we would settle for around that 80 million mark sadly.
