CRICKET BBL|12

Honestly would’ve liked to have kept Mujeeb considering whoever the **** the last bloke is but it may have jeopardised the Munro signing so 🤷🏻‍♂️
Draft is setup so that the Whitely’s of the world have their chance to play. I’m glad we didn’t keep mujeeb. Had potential to turn this teams fortunes around in one night and keeping mujeeb would have been awful. Not been awful for us by any stretch but he does not have the game changing capabilities of Munro and we have 2 of the most recently used Australian white ball spinners. Didn’t need a 3rd top line spinner.

Yeah I guess - just more of a heart over head hope in keeping him

I was thinking, what’s more underwhelming:

BBL Draft or Melbourne’s 5 signings over 5 hours over 5 different social platforms?

I think the first 2 rounds for every team was amazing. Big bash failed in that far to many high quality players that aren’t good enough to be in that upper echolant missed out. Your Bantons, Currans, Zaman’s, Nabi’s and so on really lost out and these nobodies in round 3 and 4 has been very underwhelming for the comp. At the end of the day they have an obligation to protect domestic players and the integrity of the draft. What’s the point in having a couple hundred players nominate if only the best of the best will be picked. I am personally very pleased with the Heats selections, Whitely is good within the bronze calibre limits but like anticlimactic considering the nature of the night. That’s why I feel 4 internationals is the way forward, we get an extra top notch player and the basket case can form up the international depth. Only play 3 at a time like the IPL with international restrictions.

1. Bryant
2. Munro
3. Renshaw
4. Billings
5. Whitely
6. Brown/Wildermuth
7. Peirson
8. Neser
9. Bartlett
10. Steketee
11. Kuhnemann

That’s the side for the majority of the season.

Swepson, Khawaja and Labuschagne (depends on ODI scheduling) will come back into calculations towards the back end. I like it.

1. Khawaja
2. Munro
3. Labuschagne
4. Billings
5. Renshaw
6. Whitely
7. Peirson
8. Neser
9. Bartlett
10. Steketee
11. Swepson

Come end of the season this could be massive. Also have some flexibility around our lineup with Billings keeping potential but Peirson will likely be skip til Khawaja comes back.
Also have the possibility to keep with Billings when Khawaja returns especially given Piersen’s poor putout last season.

BBL should privatise, scrap the salary cap and teams can have 6 internationals.

Don’t agree with the 6 internationals. Would do well at the heat but like I said this is a domestic competition and there isn’t enough money being produced to neglect domestic talent for financial gain. Can increase to like 4 to keep the competition alive but 6 is excessive. Also don’t agree with privatisation. The competition needs to be kept as fair as possible and I think profits should be reinvested back into the development of grass roots and domestic competitions.

You won’t have a competition if other privatised leagues around the world take our talent. Nobody wants to watch 1st grade players from Melbourne & Sydney play each other.

That’s not what’s happening. Yes it happened last year because of Covid but don’t be a fool for crying out loud. Most exciting game genuine cricket fans watched last year was the game the Heat had to pull together local cult figures.

Also in Australia there isn’t a culture of wealthy people buying sports teams without generating a profit. You see that with Uber successful billionaires in other countries who use their ownership as a hobby or way to have fun. There will be no extra money generated by the comp becoming privatised. The issue with global cricket is that privatisation from governing bodies mean the game is becoming unrecognisable. Also Big bash is a major funder of state cricket systems and the national game. Big Bash is not this nations cricketing priority.

Only 4 domestic players in our squad haven’t played for Australia or Australia A in the last 18 months in all formats. The two lowest in stature are Xavier Bartlett (one of the best young bowlers in the country) who is a shoe in to be in the 11 and James Bazley who isn’t that low in stature. Go look at all the squads and there are a number of high stature players who play for there state in various formats. If you can’t recognise them than you are a casual. Casuals are the reasoning for tonight’s ‘failure’.

Like all sports have, Cricket is in a youth transition stage where a lot of players aren’t recognisable to the casual. Last year made that worse. Whilst good players, these lower stature players coincide with the fact the state system whilst a good product it isn’t engaging to the same audience as the big bash.

Scheduling is the only thing that can fix the big bash cause at the minute we only really have access to Afghani’s, middle tier and t20 oriented Englishman and West Indians (who seem to have fallen out of favour). Add to that we don’t have the top tier talent of domestic players either. However the Big Bash is notoriously synonymous with Summer. Point blank the International game is more important than our domestic competition and these young domestic players are gonna have to figure out a way to become more skilled, more consistent and produce a better product in order to improve the overall quality of cricket. Privatisation won’t fix this and in a 8 team domestic comp you can’t afford to have a million internationals. I would love for T20’s to be wiped off the international calendar in order to spread out Test and ODI scheduling in order for these leagues to thrive. Reality is it won’t.

PRIVATISATION WON’T FIX A THING when Australians have fallen into a culture of sitting at home with the broadcast on cause that experience has developed so much. Leagues and competitions in Australia have a history and results of people just not showing up to watch sport. It’s in our supposed Australian DNA but the reality of the fact is the Big Bash is such a shit product cause it has 0! ambience or atmosphere in dead fucken stadiums. Point blank. It’s why heaps of sports in Australia are slowly dying and you can point the finger at that. The comps don’t care cause money comes from the TV not the crowds. The reality is a crowd is part of the product and eventually you get to the point where the sport is dead like Union cause everyone is watching from home until they stop watching cause it’s boring as shit. It’s happened with State cricket, Soccer, union and it will eventually happen in League.

So many reasons this product is potentially failing but if you dip your foot in each issue and change it, the fabric of the product that was so successful the first time around is gone.

Agree with that, it was basically like watching your run of the mill state game, except in T20 format with some fancy branding

Need to have internationals and need our best players available

Heat squad completed with KFC T20 max players selected are Will Prestwidge and South Australian quick bowler Spencer Johnson.

Josh Brown also has verbally agreed to be a local replacement player. Which essentially means he will be available the whole comp with Labuschagne, Khawaja and likely Swepson to be out throughout the season.

Speaking of that KFC T20 Max tournament, how has Arjun Nair not found a team? He barely got a game for the Thunder last year, I feel he's good enough to play.

Better player than someone like Kuhnemann in T20's, imo.

Good to know that Heat capitulations don’t discriminate by gender.

can’t believe the girls lost that one tonight

We had the Sixers at 5/72 at the start of the 12th over - they put on 92 runs in 7.3 overs for no loss to win

I guess if you find one thing you excel at, you gotta stick to it.

It was awful bowling but those two girls could whack the ball.

The power surge has changed the game. Many times in the BBL last season, teams seemed out of it and then with a good power surge they're right back in the frame. Would have been good to see it used in the international T20s.

Hancock has been better than I expected this season, but you had Knott going for only 5 an over and bowls just 2 overs? Spin also means the batsmen have to create the pace to get the ball to the boundary and opens them to more ways of getting out. As a spinner who bowls death overs herself, it was baffling by JJ to not use her

No idea how Sippel and especially L. harris keep getting picked, Shit bowling every game so far and Larris just throws away her wicket every game, not every ball has to go for 4 or 6… it’s only worked once this season.

Bam Sillings looking like an asset for the Heat this campaign.. I’m guessing that Pierson will still WK ?
