OFFICIAL Herbie ***** off to the dolphins

It’s nice to be romantic like that but what’s to say mozer doesn’t piss off in the next few years also anyway? We have a mil spare at LEAST. It’s pretty much unanimous it’s our weakest position. Mozer can play off the bench if he’s our next best option. At this point it would be madness to not thinking of poaching a hooker from some other team.
Absolutely nothing but we have sat around with our hands on our ***** with regards to figuring something out for the hooker spot it would be fucken stupid to go and buy a non existent hooker that wouldn’t arrive till Mozer would start to be integrated into first grade. That would be the biggest waste of half a decade in approach to the hooker position. Also what top line hooker that would leave their club would come here kmowing there is a 90% chance they get the boot within the next 2 years. Not a single one. Anyway there is about 5 hookers in the game that are actually worthwhile and not a single one of them are leaving there club.

Can we please move Pat to prop now.

I dont like the idea of relying on all these young forwards so much. If Marty has a good year he's a good signing, but we could do with maybe picking up somebody like Jordan Grant or even Josh Kerr cheaply who are off contract on 12 month deals.

Agree. We are missing experienced guys who know how to grind out tough victories and can pace themselves over a full season. Losing Flegler and Herbie could be a blessing in disguise if the club responds by bringing in a Hiku type centre, and a solid experienced mid range prop or second row option.

3 players:
Brad Schneider
Spencer Leniu
Tyson Frizell

we could nearly snag them 3 for a bit over half of the price of the other 2. Still have some leftover to keep Haas, Carrigan and our young spine players.

Roosters have reportedly turned their attentions to Leniu ... and I hear he is a gun golfer, so i'm sure they can get him for a can of coke and a meat pie

Spend the money on a hooker ffs. We must have a mil now. This is not a huge loss, as long as the cash is spent wisely.

It's all well and good to say spend the money on a hooker, but the simple fact is there simply aren't that many good ones in the entire comp, let alone ones that you could get your hands on.

if you wanted to go down that route, our best bet would be to ensure that we don't lose Mozer, by giving him a big pay bump now (combine with a long term extension), we'd still have to play him in the QLD Cup until he is ready for regular NRL footy though ... and that still comes with massive risks.

It’s very annoying if (and you know how I feel about reporters) the wage thing is true, lose some respect for the guy taking overs earlier and not being willing to stay for less now.

Herbie and Flegs have given up on a Premiership by signing with Redcliffe.
Rugby League mercenaries nothing more.
It shits me we have come to this and the more the talk is about the game is a workplace and a job the more the young guys buy into it and lose the passion of playing for succes in the game.
I don't have any answers on how to change it, that horse has well and truly bolted it just really pisses me off.

Really? The answer is simple and has been for some time - transfer windows. The NRL doesn't want to do it though because it means 1. Clubs need to be professionally run and planners, 2. the NRL has to professionally run and planners.

Really?, can you enlighten me on how a transfer window would instill a sense of purpose.
These guys have traded any chance of a premiership for cash.
This was supposed to be Kevs strength, instilling a sense of history, representing the club and hopefully leaving a legacy of their own.

They need to allow bigger outside the cap performance bonuses.

allow teams to load 10% on for top 8, 15% for final 4 and 20% for winning the comp. That would make players more loyal and chase premierships. Also allow long serving players to have better salary cap concessions to promote development. Make it a 10% discount after 5 years and a 20% discount after 10.

Not too sure about the performance bonuses but loyalty to a club absolutely needs to be rewarded more. As it stands, it's only a couple of hundred thousand to be spread across a whole club isn't it?

Yep. Which is nowhere near enough. Literally no benefit to developing players.

The cap benefits for long term players is nowhere near enough, but our development systems also don't look to be up to scratch either.

The benefits of having a good development system is having a conveyor belt of talent coming into the system and providing value for money whereby rookie juniors can cut it with first graders at a fraction of the price.

When it's time to move a senior player on you also have a junior coming through ready to take the spot (i.e. succession planning).

At the moment we cast a state wide net and appear to just grab the biggest and the fastest, we've neglected the spine positions for what seems forever and we look to stockpile young talent by giving them spots in the Top 30 instead of being selective and only holding onto the best prospects.

If we can improve our development systems losing a Flegler or Herbie doesn't become the end of the world because the next one off the conveyor belt just comes in

We also then spread that talent across several different q cup clubs where they are unable to build combinations with each other

you must have been watching a bizarro universe Brisbane Broncos. because development hasn't been a problem for us.

one of our biggest problems in recent times has been thinking we had to keep every one off our production line and then release the experienced guys to accommodate all of our kids.
