The runs happen when we were stuck in our own half and the other three weren't helping with that at the time.. What does Paix do that's any better than Walters?
I do think Walters has quite a good footy brain. He often has the right idea. His talent and ability just really let him down. He either doesn’t have the speed or ability to pull off what he is attempting to do and often looks lost with the ball.

I think Paix doesn’t attempt the big plays as often as Walters but I also don’t think we need him too. Walters big play saw him intercepted by a middle forward. His next big play was a 3 on 1 strip resulting in a penalty under the posts.

Paix has far better service from dummy half and gets our team rolling forward. He also plays more conservative which given both their limited talent is actually a good thing.

I don’t think Paix is great, I just think he wins by default as Walters is really poor.

He had a hand full of good moments in the dying minutes but no one can watch the rest of his game, especially his first stint, and genuinely try and defend him.

I disagree, because last night he was making metres when we needed them, was kicking early when we needed it, defending well when we needed it, passing to the right person. He passes off the ground and accurately now. Last year I would have understood the poor service comment but comparitively to Paix, there is very little difference. The better service thing is a myth. He made two errors, one where a middle forward looked to be standing offside at marker and a strip that was questionable.

Ye... I'm sure corey Oates jaw swinging around in his mouth had no impact on it whatsoever.

Clearest penalty try I've ever seen. Illegal tackle that stopped him scoring when he clearly would have. He grabbed his jaw, he didn't even try to place the ball when he could have due to the pain

The high tackle just causes a broken jaw, it doesn’t cause the no try.

At no point during trying to score does he grab his jaw, he continues trying to get it down. The high tackle doesn’t cause his body position to change, the high speed collision does which isn’t illegal. He then loses the ball when trying to turn over to force it down.

The illegal contact had to cause the knock on. It’s not a penalty try. Never has been.

Taumalolo was also offside on that Walters intercept.

A Marker must take up a position directly ‘opposite the tackled player’ and not float or be too
deep from the play the ball

He stood up and immediately stood right, therefore floating.

This is just a disingenuous argument, I can't add more.

It was literally said in that for him to leave it was Broncos or no one else.

''The Warriors are eyeing Kiwi international Te Maire Martin as a player swap target as teen sensation Reece Walsh returns to Brisbane on compassionate grounds with a multi-year deal to be completed in the coming days.

Walsh has been granted permission to negotiate with only the Broncos for 2023 after telling the Warriors he is not prepared to be based in New Zealand next season.''

Yeah it was Broncos or no one else because there was no one else.

Foran had just signed with Titans, they were focusing on re-signing Fifita and others, they were going ahead with Brimson at fullback. Warriors don’t like Dolphins so that only left one club.

Mate, you are kidding yourself. HE GOT A BROKEN JAW FROM AN ILLEGAL TACKLE ON THE WAY TO THE TRYLINE THAT PREVENTED HIM FROM SCORING. Wtf is a penalty try if that isn't one? Please, give me the definition? You're practically saying he should have scored anyway, with a BROKEN JAW. It became his 2nd priority!!!!! He wouldn't have even been able to think straight, his JAW SPLIT IN HALF.

I just cannot fathom that you don't think it's a penalty try. Very weird hill to die on. I am seriously having trouble even contemplating your train of thought here. His opportunity to score was altered, massively, by an illegal play. There is no way on this earth he doesn't simply roll over, which he had ample opportunity to do, if he didn't have a broken jaw. Even my mates who hate the broncos have said it was the clearest penalty try they've seen. It's very, very similar to 99 storm vs dragons gf (high shot, didn't get the ball down, would have). Are you suggesting he stops moving forward after he got hit? Bcos that's the only way it fits your definition.

If a player fouls an opponent who is touching down for a try, a penalty kick at goal shall be
taken from in front of the goal posts after the attempt to convert the try. Section 13 (9)
Touching down includes:
a. In the act of scoring; and
b. Until the try scorer regains his feet.

SF is probably saying he wasn't in the act of scoring because he was too far out, but he was definitely in the act of scoring so you are correct.

Also his head turned nearly 180 off the shoulder. If he came out of that tackle facing forward he scores imo. As it was it was only his own elbow that stopped the ball touching down. Hiku held it up from there on.

Hell yea mate, woke up still smiling.
Best start to a season (minus poor Oatsey's jaw).
Bloody stoked! Still marvelling at that performance from Walsh.
That’s the deadset only downer on the last 2 weeks. Walsh is 🔥. Someone mentioned here that we will miss Oates’ tough carries out of our own half. I tend to agree, but Arthars will be an ample enough replacement.

It’s not even close to being similar as the ‘99 penalty try. Are you actually for real there?

In fact, that penalty try is the perfect example of what constitutes a penalty try. The high shot causes the knock on, it’s the direct cause of the no try.

Oates continues trying to get it down but can’t because Hiku and Townsend are there to stop him when he turns over. He then loses it. Even if the tackle wasn’t high, Hiku and Townsend are still there to stop him.

The foul play has to cause the no try. It doesn’t. It’s as simple as that.

I’m liking the way Kevin Walters is coming across in his media conferences this year.. he’s a fraction more serious & thoughtful in his responses, particularly to those about how well the team or certain players are going.. I get the sense what happened towards the end of last season and some of the commentary regarding his coaching has put a harder edge on him..

Also get the sense that he & Reynolds are very much aligned in wanting more from this season than 2022 and that expected standards within the club have risen this year

Rule book says nothing about whether it leads to a try being scored or not, only that the illegal act happens whilst attempting to score a try.

And to say a broken jaw doesn't slow him down is absolutely ridiculous.
