I'm not against a Pasifika club like they have in Super Rugby in NZ but it can't be an Ethno club, they should still be able to sign who ever they want or it's unfair to that team, being based in Cairns makes sense especially relative to PNG, it's a big enough city to have a team it's basically the same size as Townsville they will need a new stadium though, I assume the club will be fed by 3 Affiliate teams that will be brought into QLD cup based in the 3 countries mentioned? Hunters are already up and running so that is one team ready and likely the foundation for most of the players for this team.
I'm not sure on 20 teams tbh, but I know 18 teams will be happening sooner rather then later so they can remove the weekly bye and have the extra game each round for a better TV deal.
Perth has to be the Priority if we are talking about another though, and it should be involved with an existing team like Bears.

I’m all for expansion but it needs to be done right. 17 teams is such a dumb idea. The next team needs to come in ASAP and it really should be Perth as a stand alone, let them build their own identity. It wouldn't even necessarily be that difficult to accommodate their lengthy travel distance (which doesn't seem to be an issue for the two AFL clubs mind you) - you could do like 4 home games, then all 4 Qld games and base them somewhere in Qld then like 3 more home games, then something like Newcastle, Manly, Roosters, 2 more home games, then Melbourne, St George, Penrith, Cronulla, 4 more home games and then finish with whoever is left. So basically, do home games / travel games in bulk.
If they are serious about becoming a national comp, bring in Adelaide a couple of years after that and PNG, base them out of Cairns if you must.

Looks like typical planning on the fly. Getting carried away by the Dolphins first two games.
I think the Melbourne Storm have been a negative for the league in many ways, they are a 4th QLD team (now 5th team) that plays out of Melbourne and have let the NRL rest on their laurels for decades instead of dealing with the lack of expansion and Sydney centric competition. Melbourne is just a great market for sport... the Storm are the team for homesick QLD'rs and the 2nd team for a lot of Victorian AFL fans, their junior pathways and (lack) of success to NRL are just telling.. sadly.. about the nature of this experiment. AFL has won in VIC, checkmate.

Move a Sydney club to Perth or Adelaide, bring in the other team. The Dolphins can claim Redcliffe to Rockhampton, Brisbane claim Bayside/Cleveland to Toowoomba. North QLD get anywhere above Central QLD. Move another Sydney club to cover Northern NSW. The Warriors should be targeting Samoa, Tonga, PNG and Fiji and offer pathways to the NRL. We need to tear Rugby apart.
18 is the magic number and 2 Sydney clubs need to go. If we lose 10-20k fans from Sydney, so be it. We gain more from Adelaide, Perth, North Coast and the middle of QLD. Tell them to get their shit together and in two years, the two lowest rated teams will be forced to move their license. We don't need half of the competition to be based in the one city.

Yep sounds like a plastic team and more of a marketing exercise.
If they do want to increase exposure to those nations they could look to provide them money for development and see if they can be a bit of a Borussia Dortmund... where they are purely a development and selling club.
Have them in Qld Cup and NSW Cup, but make sure they have funding and coaching to develop players from the area... if they make it to NRL then give them more funding like a transfer fee.
If one of those teams becomes successful under the model then you can look at bringing them up to NRL

And any team brought in needs to have a plan for the future of the game. They can’t spend 25 years pillaging other cities for their players. If they haven’t debuted 10 players in 10 years from the state they’re from then their license is revoked.

Playing twice will never happen though it will be far too many games, if we had a semi conference system where we played everyone once and teams in our conference twice that would be as close as it could get to being fair for all imo.
Example would be having 3 conferences of 6 teams each once we get 18 teams would be perfect for a 26 round competition with the 2 byes in origin.
Example for us would be all the Qld clubs(including the new Pacifika team if it happens) and Warriors, for our conference, that's 6 teams.

I don't like the idea of conferences... who determines the conferences and what will they be based on??
The NSWRL media pushes for a two conference system i.e. Sydney and then the rest.
What association do we have with warriors, canberra or melbourne to be lumped with them for the rest of NRL eternity??
Why do Sydney teams get the year off from travelling??
If they want to do divisions then do it, but have them rotate around year on year to change up the match ups.
When the draw is developed every team finds out which division they're in and off they go, but make it so teams play everyone an even amount of times over a 4yr or 5yr cycle.
If that means one year we only play the cowboys once... then so be it... it just means the next time cows play at Suncorp it becomes a huge event on the calendar. That or you just have two teams that will always play each other twice... a rivalry draw basically.
Broncos vs Cows, Rorters vs Souths, Dogs vs Parra, etc... except then you get left with teams that have no consistent rivalry or a manufactured rivalry based on something very flimsy... like Knights vs Manly because '97 grand final
American sports do divisions, because they can actually group teams based on proximity to each other... New York playing Chicago, Boston, Philly, etc.
We are nowhere near the Warriors, but would be required to travel there every year... because "Sydney".

Conference system is good as long as it's only for the 2nd games, this way it makes it fair on who is good enough to get into the finals, have a playoff position available for the teams that have the most total points from the 3 conferences so incase one conference is better then the rest they are not punished.

How fortunate that the Dolphins have won both their games. It has confirmed that expansion is definitely a success and we need moar teams now. I can only imagine that if the Dolphins had lost, talks of further expansion would be shelved. What a Sliding Doors moment, what luck that it turned out this way.

Lol! Everyone acting like we're going to have 20 teams tomorrow. All the league have suggested is that 20 teams is the goal for some time in the future. Australia's population is only growing, who knows what the country looks like in 10, 15 or 20 years?

I think a 20 team competition is possible if they make a national 2nd tier already that is fully professional, that would add a huge amount of depth to the player base and make it much easier to expand in the future, I think with such a thing we would be getting alot of Rugby converts as well that are on the fringes in NZ and here, it would also make it easier for players from England to make the switch earlier in their careers.
