Taupau didn't do much for mine last night. Needs to see less game time, maybe only coming on towards the end of each half to shore up D and provide some leadership.
I'm contemplating dropping him altogether.

Some costly errors and penalties he gave away last night.......
I've never been a huge fan of his.

Surely we have better options to put on the bench. Patty is our fwd leader....... we don't need Marty's "leadership" skills.

I'm of the same thought. The Marty I remember was a powerful runner and led the Manly pack. Now he doesn't seem to have much impact at all and is taken to the ground quickly. He played 33 mins for 7 hit-ups and only 15 tackles yet was completely buggered or while we had Jenson sitting on the bench...

Capewell is too slow now and is just not dangerous in attack. Has scored a couple of good tries from Reynold's short kicks but that's the extent of it. Gives away crucial penalties too.

Still pissed at Mam.

I thought we we’re going to get smoked.

Without dissecting some of the 49/51 calls which could have lead to us either winning or being flogged (considering how close they came and just missed) I’ll take the 11 point loss against the premierships top side without our marquee player.

Worrying now that we’ve lost to 3 of the teams who are genuine contenders though.

2/3 without our 7 though id argue with arey in both games we win the storm and the penrith ones but comps arnt won at this time of year just need to put away the teams we should be beating and compete with the top sides.

I don't mind these close losses to Melbourne and Penrith. The Souths one is concerning but we were in that for most of the game too. Melbourne and Penrith were mostly without out conductor and captain and biggest metre eating winger. Imagine the Storm and Penrith without To'o and Cleary and Coates and Hughes respectively, they'd struggle for fluency too. We did well to be in both games and if not for a few 50/50 decisions going the other way, we could well have seen a different result.

I'd rather lose these now than in September. We will a LOT from these results and it reminds me of the Lions last year in the AFL. Sure they didn't go all the way but they were belted by Melbourne mercilessly over the last few years and then in the finals, they used what they learned and blew them away. Since then, the Lions have beaten them comfortably again and are looking the team to beat. These losses will benefit the team in the long run.

watching capewell lope around is brutal, he is slow and old and a penalty magnet and i already have ptsd from fucking alex glenn

contrast him to riki and it's not a pretty sight

I'm not singling you out here, but just want to make a general observation about this line of thinking.

What I find funny is that the way Capewell is currently playing is the exact same way he played at the start of last season (before he was playing busted) ... which is the exact same way as he played at the Panthers.

And this version of Capewell is who nearly everyone on the forum was excited for us to have signed.

You think that's a try?

Haven't formed an opinion on him either way yet, but would've expected to by now. You would hope we'll have rotated in some young forwards by the end of Origin season and have a better idea of our depth in that position.

1st Try Obstruction.
Luai received the ball on Sorensen's inside shoulder.

Luai runs behind and then passes.

At that point it doesn't matter if anyone is actually impeded - it is an obstuction.

Kotoni No-try
What happens if Walsh catches it?

Hetherington knock-on
Inexplicable

Kevin's bench use
Questionable

Unfortunately, I don't see how the bunker could have taken Turuva's try off him.

Put together a comparison of the position of the ball before he promotes it and when his body stops moving forward across the try line. 99% sure the ball would have ended up over the line regardless given the original position of the ball was ahead of the right shoulder and his whole right shoulder ends up over the line.

I don't think there was enough there for the bunker to overturn it.

Doesn't alter the fact that plenty of times that has been called a double movement simply because the player lifted his arm. Last season Zac Hosking was robbed of his maiden try when he played for us when nearly his whole body slid over the line with momentum but they took it off him because he lifted his arm. Funny how when it happens to us its "oh but we changed the interpretation now..."

Maybe that's because you haven't completely forgotten last season: the unexpected high expectations dashed through a domino series of flops.

Now scrub back to the preseason and remember your expectations for 2023: we must make the eight. Kevvie has x weeks to save his job.

Now we're contemplating our chances of a premiership and anticipate this season's team - with Flegler, Farnworth and a 32 year old Adam Reynolds - might be stronger than next season.

Our expectations are as fickle as our concerns.

I can't be mad at that, we were all effort. We made mistakes but only because we were trying things against as solid of a defense that I've seen. Their first try was a double movement and we had two tries taken off us. Seems we get looked at as harshly as possible while other teams get benefit of the doubt.
^^^^ This.... getting so sick of it.
It truly is a lottery now. Last night was the first time in my life I started to agree with the fans who have said they are ready to give the game away. I was so deflated on the train home because we just can't seem to get "the rub of the green".
