The Dolphins discussion

Yeah I’ve been on the Jensen train since the beginning. We are still losing something without Flegler and I’m not sure who will cover it.

We need someone aggressive
hoping tapau stays for another year i think with a full preseason with us he could provide more than what he has this year so far

I'd be going down the English forward route and try to get Matty Lees out of St Helens. 25 years old, great ball player for a forward, mobile, quick and very aggressive. He would be a superb signing if we could get him.

Redcliffe too good for the merge......

Anthony Milford playing to his potential. WB has got him humming.

a line up of;

1. Hammer
6. Milford
7. Katoa
9. JMK
14. Kodi

is looking good.

Aitken.....Te Whare.....Isucko ...Nui.......

They've got the muscle up front.......

So how would people rate Dolphins season?

Do they get a pass mark or a fail mark? Do they make the 8 next season?

A huge success if we're being completely honest.....

One of Wayne's greatest achievements.

Pass conceded.

Ordinarily, a Top 8 finish grants you a pass but considering what they had to work with, to avoid a Newcastle Knights 2016-17, Brisbane Broncos 2020 type of season is a credit to them.

The key is that they played like Queenslanders. They rarely threw in the towel and even when they were being completely out-played they had a knack of staying in games. Their comeback win against the Gold Coast Titans is a testament to that.

Losing Tom Gilbert was a pivotal moment and Marshall-King wasn't the same player after he did his shoulder.

The only disappointment was Anthony Milford. He was arguably the biggest story heading into their inaugural season and he ended the season playing in QCup. Not that it shocked anybody, but at a club where so many players turned their career around, it was disappointing that Milford continued to regress.

I agree with Pete. They did well considering the odds that went against them. Luckily they were able to scrap out a few gutsy wins early on which won them a lot of public favour.

They lacked star power but with a season of building combinations under their belt now, and the solid additions of Herbie and Flegs they should be their abouts next season.

Their spine is their biggest problem now. Still missing that one big fish

I always thought 10th'ish spot so that's a pass mark Just didn't think they'd have the depth to go past that- 17 good players, they need 30 good players.

I think the pleasing thing about their season will be that their Meninga won the 18's, Colts are in the prelim and Cup made the finals.

So if they can move some of those players up in 24 and 25 things are looking bright.

Good summary.

I think they wanted to be a team that was competitive. They had 4 games where they just got just got beaten ( Raiders, Bulldogs, Knights and Tigers ) and even their first game against us was close. With a little more depth their is a good chance they would have picked up probably another 6 points from those games.. which would have left them on 30 points alongside possibly the Raiders if they won that game. That would have actually been an excellent year.

Next year i think they have a great chance of finals footy. Hamiso, Isaako, Averillo, Farnworth and probably Bostock will give them a really competitive backline compared to this year.

I'd actually give a shout out to Kodi Nikorima. He was playing some excellent footy towards the end of the year and really stood up for them. As good as Isaako was for them, i'd put him right up there with him.

Hamiso, Katoa and JMK are actually a pretty good set of players in their spine, but like you say, they probably just lack that bit more composure, that one big fish in the halves. Katoa, as good as he was, isnt at the stage where he will take a game by the scruff of the neck every week.

Nor should the young bloke be expected to (I know you know this btw)...that would fall on the shoulders of the ex-million-dollar half with over a decade in the NRL. Who finished the year in reserve grade. Pretty poor IMO, even Wayne couldn't bring him back.
