POST GAME 2023 NRL Grand Final - Penrith vs Brisbane

Payne didnt really play any differently to how he plays every week. Its going to be difficult for him to go super saiyan and go up levels because his consistency of performance is so high as a baseline compared to say Flegler tonight ( who was excellent ) or say like Patty on his Origin debut. If he ever manages that look out.
After absorbing all that defence work in the first half, we were gone for all money. But haas came on and ran like a machine. It’s exactly what we needed. Metres and no errors.

He didnt, but as i've mentioned, i think that first half took way too much out of his tank ( as it did with most of us ). Coming off the bench fresh in Origin probably allowed him to do more damage. We were on the back foot tonight for most of the first half and it showed with him. He still got through a lot of work, but in the kind of intensity in the game tonight i dont think we should be playing him for 71 mins. I think to get the best out of him, like with Payne, we need to bring him off earlier.
I do agree, Kev should have put Kobe on with all the defence that was happening.

As i've just mentioned, i think we need to rotate our forwards a bit better and not expect them to play so long. Its helped Payno no end this year not being worked into the ground. He's way better for it.

Walsh was so fucking lazy there at marker! Jesus.

Who are they going to replace Leniu with off the bench? He’s the only quality reserve they’ve got. Smith was putrid tonight as was Garner so it doesn’t appear as though they have much forward quality in the wings. They have been an incredible team but a few holes are showing up in their side. The Penrith of last year would’ve absolutely torn us apart in the first half with the amount of possession they had.

That said, we need blokes like Mariner and Willison to stand up and Ezra and Walsh to improve to get back to this point. We also got so lucky with injuries this year. This hurts
Cleary is an absolute freak and the reason Penrith can lose players but still improve is because he is so young and is improving every year

Statistically, he was very similar to Payno but he played 71 mins and you can see the fatigue probably got to him with his 5 missed tackles. I dont think an 9 min break is long enough for a player who gets through the work he does.
Yeah that first half probably took it out of him. Had to tackle his guts out in the middle against leota and yeo.

Haven't read anything yet on this thread since kick off. Fucking spewing, but at the same time very proud. We clearly didn't have enough chins in the last 15 minutes, just shows the western scum aren't invincible and is a good chance for them to have another repeat of parras drought after the 3peat. Flegler was very good, but I think we have it in the forwards to push again next year. Herbie... mehh. Was a gun last game but could've made better decisions tonight, so no disappointment there.
Solid year and we'll go better next year.
Thankyou all the staff of BHQ and all the members. Been lurching since 2013 and never had anything to contribute (someone else always says it first). Really appreciate that there are people who appreciate our club like us (my mates are shit).
I look forward to broncos talk for the next few decades.
PS imagine thinking you're a winner then arriving back at your home in Penrith. Must be bitter sweet knowing you still lose in life.

Cleary sets up on the left and our markers go the other way… walsh was standing there at the ruck and left a massive gap for Cleary to step back into. There was nothing on.

Gotta give credit where it's due, that last try from Cleary was brilliant. He is definitely a cool and collected player.

As for us, we did it to ourselves, game should have been over when we were up by 16 and Luai went off. Letting them run in 3 from there is criminal, but luckily our guys are young and will learn from it. We should be favorites next year by a long way. If Penrith look like winning 4 in a row, it's time to call bullshit.

Shattering to deal with now, absolutely shattering, and I fear for my best mate who has been in a bad place the past few months and I was really, really hoping the boys would get home for him, but the horizon is looking beautiful for the Broncos. With a bit more maturity, this will be a tough side to stop.

Grant and Munster aren’t too bad either, but they have zero room to create anything with their shit pack. Cleary is rightfully getting the praise rn, but they don’t win that game without critter who will be sorely missed I reckon

I'm not sure if I'm more disappointed about losing the GF or now just realising that I have to wait 5 months until the next season starts before I can watch another broncos game.

Really disappointed with that. Panthers didn't win it, we choked and chucked it away. Plus side, scoring 4 tries against the best defence in the comp. The Herbie bat back when he could have caught the ball was an epic fail and so was Reynolds kick out on the full.
Anyway we move on its good to see that we can make a GF again after the past few seasons, and I am sure we will eclipse the Panthers in the near future, so long as we keep the team together.
