I think if we want to play finals then we need dolphins to win.

That maintains a two game gap to rorters.

Sharks are effectively in the top 4 already... same wins as wahs and a higher P/D, so we're no longer competing with them.

We also desperately need raiders to beat manly to maintain that 2 win gap... they have winnable games coming up at the backend of the year.
Yeah if roosters win ... Dolphins next week is a must win... but that would also give us a 4 point buffer on the Dolphins so that could be enough... lots of scenarios to play about but yes really need the Raiders to beat Manly :)

You cant blame our right hand side too much, it was shot to bits and Reynolds and Staggs are good defensively.

I know we hate the Storm but to suggest they aren’t premiership contenders and have a “sub standard” average roster is laughable. They are an unbelievable club who have been the yardstick for many years.

Maybe the sooner this delusional fanbase realises we aren’t anywhere near their level we can focus on what really needs to change to become a powerhouse again, 1 win in 18 against them says it all.

Happy with the effort from most of the team but I'm sick of seeing us not execute our plays and the six agains on defence are just killer (especially playing the storm).

I guess I just expected better by now. I didn't get to see the start of the game where all of you said we were dominant so I'm biased in that sense but yeah I'm just filled with disappointment. Not in the loss but with our progress this season.

Again injuries have played their part in our demise but don't all teams have them? Anyway onto next week.

Overall not unhappy with the effort.
Not much you can do losing your starting halves in the first 20.
Credit to Cobbo, hung tough out there last night when he easily could've thrown in the towel - if you can keep showing that desire I'd welcome you back in 27.

Walsh, come the **** on man. Schoolboy mistakes.

I tipped the Storm so I'm not surprised, I've seen this movie way too many times before to be fooled into thinking there was an alternative ending.

Don’t think anyone actually thinks they are sub standard they have been in the top 4 for the past 20 years consistently lol

I was saying this when we were getting rid of him, Cobbo never did fall off despite what people were saying on here he makes some seriously tough carries

I think there was probably a loss of focus, maybe due to some stuff in his personal life.
Last two games are closer to the old Cobbo - there's still moments of flux where he's totally disengaged or a few steps behind, but overall I thought he did well.
Who knows, the 1 year deal at Reddy might be good for him long term. Don't know what you got till it's gone.

real shame we lost both our halves, momentum looked to be building and I seriously think we were premiership threat had this not happen. Praying that both we make finals without them and that Reynolds and mam are miraculously healed to play. Apart of me thinks this year is said and done now but I’m proud of the effort and the turn around they have made. Coby black better start getting ready we are going to need you not long from now

I honestly think it was more related to contract dramas more than anything + pressure for him to perform at fullback when Walsh was injured. He is the best winger in our squad, I still think he is more suited on staggs side however and could of definitely utilised him on this storm game against Coates with his annoying jumping game

Had to check out that set restart that led up to the Papenhuyzen try.

I'm not sure where I got Lisati from, Wishart was the tackled player and it was a harsh penalty. Tui wins the ruck and Papenhuyzen immediately attacks behind the ruck, offloads to Grant who finds Munster who turns it back into Wishart. Wishart runs at Billy, Billy throws him to ground, it appears he breaks out of the tackle so Haas comes in and lays a hand on him and is immediately pinged for working on the ground.

35:10 (or 4:50) for those looking for it. It's the type of call that won't get scrutinised, but it was a huge moment in the context of the game.

Let’s be real here, we keep banging on about how superior our team is on paper but who would legitimately make it into their 13?

Papenhuyzen > Walsh
Coates > Cobbo
Staggs > Howarth
Meaney > Shiba
Anderson > Mariner
Munster > Mam
Hughes > Reynolds
Utoikamanu > Jensen
Grant > Hunt
Haas > King
Blore > Riki
Katoa > Piakura
Patty > Loiero

3 players of ours would displace theirs, and even with Staggs that’s being generous. Their team is miles ahead of ours and the sooner we realise it and start aiming for that level of roster the better off we will be.

Also Bellamy >>>>>>>>>> Madge

From a purely football talent perspective, teams like ours blow their entire squad off the park. Harry Grant is the only member of that spine that could plug and play and be elite at any other club.

But they play such an efficient system that even average player (the type of players who were never picked in rep teams when they were developing) become productive superstars and rep players.

Theres a reason so few Storm players ever go on and succeed at other teams, and why so few choose to leave.

Hard hard hard disagree.

Um Hughs? Munster? Both are top 3 in their position. Look how much better QLD is with Munster.

These guys are freekin' top tier talent and the Melbourne system only amplifies the few journeyman they have around them.

Totally respect your opinion.

In my view, Hughes is a manufactured system halfback who fits perfectly in that Storm machine, but hasn't backed himself or proved himself anywhere else. He lacks most of the qualities you'd want in a 7, but he just plays that role so ridiculously well. I think at any other club he struggles.

Munster has about 2 good games a year nowadays outside of Origin. He has always faded in and out of games at club level, but the last few seasons he seems to have taken a big step back. He's extremely talented, no doubt and been a great player, but again I think he'd struggle away from Melbourne. We have seen very similar players (like Luai most recently) show how hard it can be for a half to emulate their game at a new club team.

These guys are very productive players and excellent assets to their team, my point is that neither of them would be the physical, athletic, naturally gifted freaks or footballing prodigies like your Walshes and Pongas etc... And yet they have managed to massively outperform these much more gifted footballers - and I think it's much more to do with the Storm system than people realise.

Lisati gets away with a putrid play the ball somewhere around that 6 again, as I had him in my head too. It might be the set before that 6 again is given, where Grant makes a break up the middle from 40 out.
